About the property

16'000 m2 land, steam bath, hot tub, grill, exclusive equipment

This exclusive villa is very well situated just opposite Akureyri. It is rented by celebrities but also by other people who enjoy the location and the high standard of the house. It was built by the Icelandic architect Fanney Hauksdottir in 2006. It was recently refurbished with high-quality equipment such as ReVoX audio equipment as well as with attractive materials such as walnut, shale and glass.

The house is surrounded by a 16'000 m2 garden and a security fence. An alarm system and cameras ensure safety for the guests. Any kind of additional service is available on request.

During winter snow drifts may block road access to the house. The road to our fence and the driveway is not maintained during winter time. In this case a short walk (400 meters) is necessary. Stunning property with majestic views!

Thomas and Carmen are the perfect hosts, they make you feel at home! This is the second time we have stayed at one of their properties. They go above and beyond making sure you have an amazing stay. The home is second to none offering home automation and sweeping views! We stayed with a group of friends who are all world travellers, their collective feedback was that it was the best airbnb they had the privilge of staying at!

This home is not a place we will soon forget!

Beautiful Home

We stayed 3 nights and would recommend this home to anyone staying in the Akureyri area. The location was great, very close to the town (A little too close for viewing the northern lights). The hot tub and steam bath are amazing and very well kept. The kitchen was very well stocked and the living spaces were spacious and inviting. The photos do not do this place justice.

Fantastic holiday

Amazing modernist house, all amenities, including steam bath. Photos don't even live up to it, fantastic views and excellent landscape. Great hiking out the back door. In July, 'sunset' (not really) lasted for two hours over mountains seen from livingroom (took many, many photos). Short drive to town, great food and shopping. Many museums, hiking, whale watching and horseback riding options nearby. Owner and staff very friendly and helpful. Just so you know, no TV, but who needs it with views like this one. House is very clean and well maintained. Weather can be iffy in Iceland (any time of year), but that is par for the course. We were two older adults, two younger and a teenager, all agreed best trip ever.

Lucky to Stay Here

You are indeed a lucky person if you get a chance to stay in this perfect house. The photos and description are 100% accurate. The caretaker was welcoming and very helpful. Our only problem was finding the reason to leave the house to explore northern Iceland. If you do get out, we recommend whale watching out of Dalvik; we saw three humpbacks. Also, really enjoyed several sites around Lake Myvatn (nature baths), and Godafoss waterfall. The Herring Era museum in Siglufjordur is amazing. We want to return to this remarkably beautiful home in winter to see the Northen Lights.

To see Northern lights from the house it is however often too bright. You need go further out in the Fjord where there is less artificial light. We are looking forward to host you again.

House was adequate; contract was not

We were there during a three day snowstorm. The rental company refused to plow the driveway. It does specify this refusal in the rental contract. We managed to dig through three to four foot drifts to get out the first two days. However, by the third day the only access road to the driveway drifted shut (a distance of 500 meters) and was impassable with our 4 wheel drive. When we asked why the access road was not plowed, we were told it was private and we would have to pay 100-300 euros to have a local farmer plow the road. The rental company told us that we should have left our rental car at the T intersection 500 meters away and walked through drifted snow to get to our driveway and house. This is not stated in the rental contract. We needed to get to town on the third day to pick up a prescription for someone who spent the prior evening in the emergency room with a terrible rash that she noticed after our first evening in the house. We received an email in Reykjavic (on our way home) that we owed 100 euros, which we ignored, because we had left the house in order as stated in the rental contract. I was surprised to receive a registered letter from the rental company dated May 31 claiming I ignored two email requests for payment of the 100 euros and the case was being referred to a collection agency. Also, the house is showing age. There was a large hole in the plaster in the basement where we were told water had leaked; the seal on the front slider was loose and wind whistled through the house; the frame on the back slider was broken, and the shade in one bedroom was ripped. I don't want to be that ugly American, so I will pay the disputed amount. There are many lovely homes to rent in Akureyri. I cannot recommend this one.

Awe Inspiring

To say that this house is one of the best in Iceland is to significantly undersell it: it is one of the best houses in Europe. We spent a week there, and felt that we were living in the lair of a particularly charismatic Bond villain. Everything is to the highest possible spec; the views are beyond astonishing; and Akureyri itself a delight. If you are ever in any doubt as to whether Northern Iceland, and particularly this house, has anything to offer, cast them aside. We holiday regularly, are nearly fifty and our week here is the best holiday we have ever had. My only regret, as it is quite the most romantic place in the world, was that we took the kids along(!).
