Great experience!

We enjoyed our stay very much! The old place is calming and serene with the quietness and wildlife. We loved the gas logs in the den and master bath.

Owner's Response: It is always wonderful to hear from our renters and how much they enjoyed the countryside! Lots of wildlife can be seen now as the deer are rutting, turkeys are strutting, rabbits, squirrels and foxes are scrambling about. Having the gas logs in the living room and master bedroom helps you realize that Thanksgiving is near. We look forward to having you again!

Description would always fall short

Have stayed here with family several times over the last dozen years; and each time it's like coming home to visit an old friend. Making the turn down the drive and the pasture opens up for that first glimpse of the cabin just takes one back in time. The deer, turkeys, split rail fencing, turtles in the pond, coyotes serenading at night, pitch black velvety skies twinkling like diamonds made of thousands of stars.... The history within the walls of the cabin itself could keep one entertained for days. I'm retired USAF and have travelled the world, and I don't exaggerate when I say it's truly a one of a kind place that you will never regret visiting. Mebane is a beautiful town, well maintained, safe, and relatively easy to find your way around in. Burlington; the nearest larger town... Not so much, but you'll find everything you need in Mebane!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. It is the same way I feel when mowing the yard and many trails. I have recently added some acreage to the property and am cutting more trails for exploring and solitude.

The Old Place, is just that!!! It took me back to visits with my grandmother, simple living, family gatherings, and peaceful surroundings... It was perfect for out small reunion, comfortable, charming, and relaxing. I can't wait to go back.

Exactly as described and reviewed!!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the front porch with the rockers and swing as the weather was very pleasant with nice breezes and afternoon showers. Watching the deer feed in the field and walking the trails was just what the doctor ordered! The house is well equipped for a get away and very comfortable, thank you for sharing your home with us!

Heaven on Earth

Absolutely LOVED The Old Place! We thoroughly enjoyed entering into a different time, and catching a glimpse of history! There is such a feeling of peace and comfort within the walls of the cabin, that I cannon describe. I stayed up until the 2 a.m. reading the memoirs and taking a tour of the cabin, with all of it's beautiful and historic belongings. I cannot remember a more peaceful time, while on vacation! I would like to add that the town of Mebane is also so warm and welcoming! The historic district was absolutely beautiful, and full of wonderful people. We will definitely be back - only wish we lived closer, so we could enjoy it more often. Thank you, so much, for sharing your family history with all of us! You definitely have a hidden treasure!

The best thing about our location is that there is a whole lot of nothing to do. Just sit back or hike and relax. There are nearby restaurants, museums, nightlife, wineries and shopping if you get 'cabin fever.'
