We made plans months before the hurricane to go to Vieques - we love the island, having been there a number of times. the house we originally booked couldn't guarantee us power, so we scramble to find a house with power. Boy, did we win on this one.

The house is architect designed and stunning. The whole wall of windows opens up so you feel like you are outside on the deck even working in the kitchen. Three beautiful bedrooms (all with queen-size beds) and great mattresses. All have lovely private baths. Bedrooms also have all glass walls facing the ocean view. The pool is fabulous - great for swimming laps! There is a basement room with a private bath and kitchen and two futons that can be used to watch television or turned into bedroom number four.

We were the first guests in the house after the hurricane and there were still a few small things that needed to be addressed - but not enough to even mention.

The only thing I would add would be ceiling fans in the bedrooms. They are air conditioned, but it was never that hot in February and I love the slow gentle breeze of ceiling fans.

Go to Vieques - the beaches are reopening, the restaurants are as well. We were thanked for coming by all the shop owners and restaurants. The really need your support and take cash as many places did not have credit card machines working yet.

We will be back!

The pictures don't do this house justice. There is a huge "wow" factor as you walk in the front door. Our group had 2 families of 5 each and the rooms and beds were adjusted easily to fit our needs. The house is fully stocked with everything you could need for the beach (chairs, towels, umbrellas, coolers) to a fully loaded kitchen. For dinner recommendations, don't miss Tin Box or any of the restaurants in Esperanza (like Banana's and Duffy's)! We went to a different beach every day and each was fantastic. Definitely rent a jeep for your stay and be adventurous. The bioluminescent bay kayak tour was a blast and the microorganisms really do light up lots! Thanks to Thomas who answered all of our questions and made us feel very welcome!

This hillside house really is even more beautiful than the pictures and had every amenity we needed. There are 3 knockout gorgeous bedrooms, all facing the pool. There is also an additional 4th bedroom in the basement, which is not as fancy as the other three and doesn't have a view, but it was immaculate, comfortable, has a nice bathroom, a mini kitchenette, and it's own very effective a/c unit. Though the basement bedroom lacks the visual wow factor of the 3 upstairs bedrooms, it was perfect for a fussy sleeper like me, who prefers a cool, quiet, dark sanctuary to sleep in and who also likes to sleep in a bit late.

The wall of glass doors between the kitchen and the pool area are accordian doors that you can slide all the way to one side so that the entire front of the house is open to the terrace, the pool and view of the ocean in the distance. There are overhead fans both inside and out on the covered part of the terrace, though you'll rarely need them since there is usually a light breeze. The pool is lovely and bigger than a mere dipping pool so you can actually swim laps, albeit short ones. They use a light hand with the pool chemicals, so your skin and hair don't feel fried from too much chlorine. The pool is not heated, so it is a little cool, but not uncomfortably cold. Be sure to take a nighttime swim with only the underwater blue pool lights on. It is magical.

We rented a Jeep from Avis (who promptly and cheerfully picked us up from the airport when we arrived and dropped us off at the ferry when we left). Thomas, the property manager, texted us a map, which we used to easily navigate to the house (a short distance off the main road), where he was waiting to meet us to give us the keys and a tour of the house.

Cell reception was pretty good (both Verizon and AT&T). The house wifi worked great. There is a speaker system you can conveniently connect to with bluetooth.

We were all thoroughly happy with this vacation rental and highly recommend it.

A Week in Paradise at an Exquisite Designer House

  • 5 of 5

Sadly, we are leaving Vieques today after a lovely week in paradise. The house is modern: brand spanking new, clean as a whistle, sleek, equipt with everything a family of up to 8 needs for a great experience, and is beautifully situated on a hill overlooking the Atlantic, affording the guests a gentle, bug-free breeze all day and night. Having rented many houses over the past many decades, I can say from experience that the owners/managers are right on top of things: professional and quick to respond to questions. The owner cheerfully met us at the house despite our very late arrival and offered us food and drink to tide us over until the morning. A rental car is a must anywhere on Vieques and we followed the advice of a friend and rented a 4 wheel drive Jeep from Avis. The beaches are located at the end of a long dirt and sand road in the wildlife preserve, but well worth the trip. The island is lovely: far less developed than the mainland. We would recommend the house and island to anyone looking for a week away (and another plus is that you are still technically in the US).

Casa Blue... .where vacation dreams come true!

  • 5 of 5

Casa Blue is a WOW! The house is brand new and has everything you need for an unforgettable trip. It is tastefully furnished, clean and offers open air living. The view you get when entering the house is amazing. The enormous glass wall near the kitchen folds back and opens up the house to the expansive deck and gorgeous pool. Our party had 8 in total with ages ranging from 4 years old to teenagers to adults. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, great views and individual remote controlled AC. The infinity pool is gorgeous, pristine and unbelievable when lit up at night. We were there for 7 nights and only went out twice to dinner which says alot about the lay out and amenities offered by Casa Blue. Thomas was AWESOME from meeting us to check in to immediately responding to all of our texts for directions, suggestions, reservations, etc. Having done the hotel resort vacation the last 15 years this was the first where we rented a house. Casa Blue has set the bar high and we now plan to repeat next year. Thank you Thomas and Casa Blue for providing a fabulous vacation for us!

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Perfect Vacation House.

Our group was composed of 2 families (total of 9) with young kids ranging from 3 months to 8 years. We traveled using the ferry coming from Fajardo (but likely we will fly in next time we travel to vieques). We spent a total of 6 nights at Casa Blue. This house is located in a peaceful area in north vieques, surrounded by other houses in large lots. The house is beautiful, very modern and has an amazing pool. It has 3 rooms with direct access to the pool on the main floor and another in the basement. This house is equipped with everything you may need during your stay (from extra toilet paper to beach chairs to different size coolers to extra towels). You just need to bring your bathing suits and wallet and you are set.

We came in using the ferry because we brought a lot of stuff (frozen lasagnas, drinks for the kids, pasta etc.) but now that I know how this house is set up, next time we will travel very lightly.

The feeling when you are in the house, is that this house was made for this type of adventure. The kitchen is in the middle of the main floor and looks to the patio / pool. It is an open concept and all doors open to the pool. It is located high on a mountain and the winds keep the house mosquito free and fresh. Our kids came back with wrinkled hands and feet after the many hours inside the pool.

Very important, Morales supermarket has everything you need (from toothpaste to birthday cakes). Rent a car and shop whatever food you need for this adventure. No need to bring food from PR.

We also did BioBay, horse back riding and Caracas and Chiva beach.

Would recommend this house to anyone. We are doing another trip soon.
