About this property

Secluded gem nestled along Lone Man Creek with fireplace and long views

In May you may be lucky to spot beautiful pink roses growing on the dam - out of the reach of hungry deer. One day an elderly woman greeted my friend at the creek, explaining that she had grown up there, swimming and playing on hot summer days, long before any of us discovered this paradise. She explained that her father had planted those roses, some ninety years previous, in the perfect spot apparently as they are thriving there today. We named this special place after her and her daddy's roses, so named The River Rose Retreat, where you and yours can drink in the unique and restorative smells, sounds, and eye candy, the absolute best of the Texas hill country.

This beautifully hand designed property depicts why we all love the Texas hill country. Multi leveled decks, porches a plenty and paths/benches/walls that are intricately hand lain with local rocks. Its such a delight to explore this unique property.

This property is dog friendly. So bring along your WHOLE family on your next vacation! We have a $100 pet fee.

The kitchen is fully stocked with absolutely anything you need to prepare your meals away from home. A private BBQ pit is available at each house. The open concept kitchen/dining/living room has wrap around large windows that provide a beautiful view of the sky and creek even when indoors.

There is a small sitting pool(not heated) behind the main house. This pool is exclusively for treetop house use. The pool has a lovely deck that overlooks the creek and horizon. The deck has tables and chairs to accommodate your whole party. Even though hot tub is listed as an amenity, we do not have one. VRBO can not figure out how to remove it.

The seasonal creek access is just a short walk out the back door. The path is constructed in conjunction with the natural landscape, so care should be taken when walking down to the creek. We have creek access and a private dammed off swimming hole.

This home has a back deck, a screened in porch in the front, a front seating area, a private balcony upstairs and a sitting area around the pool. There are so many ways to enjoy nature with your loved ones together or in private.

Both bedrooms have king beds. One of the king beds is convertible to two twin beds if this better suits your needs. There are also two high quality queen size couch beds. This home has 2 full bathrooms and a half bath. The base price is for 4 people and extra guests up to 8 are 25 per day to accommodate the extra cleaning of towels and linens.

This property has 2 houses, an apartment, separate bunk house add on with bed and mini fridge only available for rent. This listing is for the larger home which sleeps 8. You could fit up to 15 people with privacy for all the couples if the rent the whole property.

We do have three rentals on the property. They all have their own privacy and outdoor sitting areas. They are lined along the waterway so all have creek views. We do not allow fishing of any kind not even catch and release.

The house had a cool 70's appeal and very rustic. And the property was beautiful!
As mentioned beautiful with a lovely creek running right below the house and Billy Joel lived right down the street!! We LOVED our stay there and so did our dog!!

Great getaway
We really enjoyed this artsy little house. So much character and a great place to get some peace and quiet for the weekend. The house was clean, but it is an older home, so not clean in the sense of a modern pristine home. Really appreciated the reverse osmosis water filter for drinking and cooking. The cocktail pool was a great spot and spent most our time out there, plus a side trip to Perdanales Falls for an adventure and some swimming (45 min away). There are other rentals on the property which turned out to be nice with a neighbor dog for ours to play with. The one disappointment was the swimming hole which is what attracted us to this property. We were prepared to throw some tubes in there and hang out and play all day. But turns out the water was low and full of algae. Even our dog didn't want to go in it. I asked them if there was water in the hole before renting and they replied yes, but I should have asked if there is water clean enough to swim in. Oh well. Still no regrets staying at this. property.

Wish I had stayed longer!
We were in town for only two nights to attend a wedding so we didn't get much time at the property. However, the time we spent was very relaxing and enjoyable. The house is eclectic and fun and the views are great! I definitely would stay here again, only thing I'd do different is stay a few days longer!

New Year’s Eve weekend away with friends
Lovely property. Enjoyed the view. The two master bedroom setup was perfect for two couples. Kitchen was well-stocked, which was great, as we cooked all of our meals in. We really enjoyed the back deck.

This is our fourth property and with the waterfront location it is the crown jewel in our opinion, although all of our places are fantastic with their own features to offer. Kevin is an accomplished architect and Martha manages the particulars of the vacation rental home business. In addition Martha is an artist, specializing in natural wildlife scenes and animal portraiture. Kevin is an excellent photographer and takes all the photos for our websites.

Why they chose this property

We had looked in the Guadalupe area and the Houston area, trying to get closer than California to aging parents in Houston, when a friend of ours suggested Wimberley. Immediately we fell in love with the small town of around 2000 as well as all the natural beauty surrounding it. Then we realized that every visit posed a challenge for finding accommodations, as the good ones are taken way ahead and the multitude of local events are constantly bringing an influx of tourists and visitors to the gorgeous Texas hill country. It dawned on us that Wimberley is an easy three hour drive to Houston, 30 minutes to San Antonio, and a mere 40 minute drive to Austin. When our realtor showed us The River Rose Retreat we were totally sold! In every way.

What makes this property unique

We were lucky to buy this property in top condition and the improvements we have made have it just about as perfect as can be. We added a full on ADA compliant accessible bathroom with roll in shower for those with special needs. We took out steps throughout the property and added ramps where necessary so virtually anyone can get in anyplace in the two main houses. The location is a quick ten minute drive from downtown Wimberley, shops, and restaurants. Like all our other homes, which have received 100% five star reviews in the last 7 years of doing business, The River Rose Retreat is outfitted with every amenity and convenience I could think of. You will find everything you would expect in a five star hotel, as well as all of the conveniences of a fully equipped home. We lock up a few clothes and personal items in our very ample storage spaces, but other than that what's ours is yours to use and enjoy.
