Why Jeff & Cathy Dale chose Volcano

We love Volcano, but especially this neighborhood by the golf course. Because of it's location, this area is much sunnier than most of Volcano (that's why they built the course here). It's a quiet and relaxing place. Warm sunny days and quiet cool nights. We love the view from the house and deck looking out over the backyard and golf course. This neighborhood also has nice wide paved streets, with little traffic, ideal for walking, cycling etc.

This home and location perfectly met our wants and expectations!

  • 5 of 5

We live on the Kona side of the Big Island and Volcanoes is our favorite "getaway" spot for mini-vacations. We always enjoy our stays in the area, but my husband, sister and brother in law all agreed that this was one of the best vacation homes we've stayed in so far....and we've stayed in a lot!

The four of us were very comfortable in this two bedroom, one bath home. It was beautifully and tastefully decorated and the large, open deck area that overlooked the 11th hole of the golf course fit us to a tee! The weather was incredibly beautiful all weekend (rare for Volcanoes, but we appreciate all the weather variations there) and so the sunny, open deck was an absolute delight. We enjoyed the hot tub at night under brilliantly starlit skies.

Even though we love some of the restaurants in Volcanoes (like Thai Thai and Opelo Café) this time we enjoyed staying home and eating in more! Of course, we brought groceries with us, but the kitchen was well equipped and included modern, and well maintained appliances. There is a good sized dining table with very comfortable chairs that is situated in front of a large window that overlooks the yard and the golf course beyond (very pleasant).

The bathroom, was nicely done and the shower was a nice size with a rain shower head. We understand the catchment water system and so did not expect a huge amount of water pressure, but the volume was perfectly fine!

We made sure to leave this little jewel of a cabin in great shape when we left and the owners have returned our security deposit promptly. Jeff and Cathy were very responsive to our questions and open to our requests which we appreciated very much.

I am definitely keeping this vacation home on the list of places we hope to be able to return to soon!

Amazing Volcano Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful time at the Volcano Cabin! Jeff & Cathy were super quick to respond to questions, and the home was just as described. It was so convenient to the national park that we could even pop back & forth throughout the day. The hot tub was a nice touch especially during the cooler evening time. Our kids actually enjoyed a morning dip while we stoked the fireplace during the chilly morning hours. Daytime temps warmed up nicely & were never hot. The backyard is framed with beautiful hydrangeas, and several different birds passed through which were fun to watch.

Breakfast time was our favorite in the beautiful kitchen. (The convection oven cooks bacon to perfection!) If you're staying here, we suggest you stock up on groceries in Hilo or Kona so you can just cook at home and enjoy the location. They have a coffee grinder - so enjoy the Kona coffee! Groceries are a little distance away, so plan ahead. There are some local restaurants, which Jeff & Cathy were great to provide helpful & honest reviews. They were spot on! The park restaurant was great, and the other place was okay (just as they said).

Beds were comfortable and there were plenty of towels, even extra comforters to snuggle under on the couch. The small space heaters were perfect to take the chill off, but only needed for a short while.

Overall, we loved this place! Thank you Jeff & Cathy for a wonderful vacation!

What a great secret close to everything volcano!

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased when we walked in the front door. The setting is lovely and the house was stocked with all essentials. And, you can see the glow of the crater from the hot tub! We would stay here again on future trips.

Very nice little, updated, log cabin-we loved it and will return.

  • 5 of 5

Almost everything in this cabin was perfect-However, it would be very helpful to have the following as well:

* A well lit entrance light on driveway side of house/the sensor light is great when it stays on the whole time, as it is very very dark when coming home at night.

* Better lighting in the bedrooms and in living room for reading and seeing at night.

* New good knives and fry pans are needed

* House is very clean, and very nice-but cob webs behind curtains in bedrooms and in corners of cabin walls.

Other than those very small minor things, this house is great, quiet and relaxing. Perfect location for National Park , star gazing and walking/biking.

We will be back ;-)

Owner's Response: Thanks for the feedback. We are upgrading some of the kitchen stuff, improving the lighting in the bedrooms, and looking to install a new motion sensor along the driveway/entry in July. We really want Kilauea Cabin to be the best place to stay in Volcano and the little things matter. : )

Second time at this rental - just as great!

  • 5 of 5

This was the second time we stayed at this vacation rental on the golf course in Volcanoes. We picked a rainy weekend for our getaway from the Kona side of the Big Island, but it didn't dampen our spirits. The home was as clean and comfortable as we remembered from our visit in Feb 2016. By the way, the king bed was perfectly comfortable but since it was just the 2 of us this time, the second bedroom went unused.

Although we didn't light a fire in the beautiful fireplace this time, we did use the space heater in the living room which was thoughtfully provided by the landlords. That warmed up the cozy living room in the morning and evening so we could comfortably rain-gaze, watch movies and read. As usual we had brought groceries with us from Kona and cooked a few meals in their great kitchen. The only item "missing" for cooking was a larger frying pan or skillet for our burgers and a pancake breakfast one morning. No big deal, we made it work, but next time would probably bring an additional skillet with us.

Our 2 days were spent exploring the area subdivisions, revisiting the local galleries, and scenic locations in and around the National Park. Even in rainy weather, the beauty of the National Park is undeniably awesome.

I'm sure we will return again to this cozy cabin. Thanks Jeff and Cathy for keeping the place in tip top shape!
