A home with room for the whole family. Tile floors, 2 fireplaces and a pellet stove to cozy up in front of for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops and two 6-foot bath tubs(!). Sleeps 6 to 8 easily.
-6 miles to balloon fiesta park in albuquerque - watch the hot air balloons from the deck off the master bedroom, or travel to the balloon fiesta 15 minutes away.
-you are also less than 1 hour away from the wonderful galleries, restaurants and shops in santa fe.
-space available to park any size rv.
-plenty of places to explore along the nearby irrigation ditches which are perfect for biking, walking or horseback riding.
Linda and I are both artists, and we used the barn on the property for years as our studio. Our daughter did horsey stuff from age 12 to 18, hence the horse stalls and tack room. I was born and raised in New Mexico, Linda is a Glendale, California transplant (I took her away from all that...).
Charles Babb purchased this house in 1991
Corrales is just a lovely little village (population 8K). Listed as one of the "Top 25 Small Towns". There are galleries and restaurants, horse ranches, orchards and farms. It's just far away enough from Albuquerque to be rural, but close enough if you need a big shopping mall (Cottonwood Mall) or movie theaters. The house is also only about 15 minutes from the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta park, and starting in September through October there are frequent hot air balloons flying overhead.
From the house you can get to the Rio Grande in a few minutes and stroll, run or bike along the "Acequia Madre" (mother ditch) or through the "Bosque" (wooded area next to the river), or head to the Sandia mountains for hiking, skiing or mountain biking in about 20 minutes. Santa Fe is less than an hour away, and makes a good day trip.
Note: Wagner lane is a dirt road next to a working farm. When/if we get significant rain, there will be puddles in the road, but nothing that a normal car cannot negotiate.
In the Fall, since you're right next to a working farm, you'll smell the Green Chile roasting - what we like to call "Corrales Aroma Therapy". In winter, the scent of Piñon smoke in the air is magical...
Dan and his wife were the perfect guests, and left the house spotless. They are welcome back anytime.
They were having difficulties posting their review, so they emailed it to us directly:
Hi. I have been trying to get my comments to go through on the VRBO site. I have filled it out three times now and nothing happens. We enjoyed your house very much - you too - so I gave it a 5 star rating. I am sending you what I wrote: I hope this helps.

The house is both an interesting and welcoming Southwest style.
The house was large, immaculate, and still cozy with two fireplaces and a pellet stove. The wifi was trouble free and easy to log on. The owners had labeled the kitchen doors and drawers so that it was easy to find things. They had stocked some basics which was much appreciated.
The owners were great - helpful, friendly, but not at all intrusive. We enjoyed the whole experience.
Chip and Linda were incredibly responsive. The house was perfect, exactly what we needed. Stay could not have been better. Thank you chip and Linda!!
This home is about a quarter-mile down a gravel road off the main street in Corrales, which is a quiet village NW of ABQ. The house has ample room for many people to stay - it comfortably housed my family of 4 along with my in-laws, and had room for more.
It's a lovely house, getting lots of natural light, but well-situated to avoid harsh afternoon heat. The backyard has lots of seating for the cool evenings, and is quiet and secluded. The upstairs master bedroom has a deck that overlooks the backyard and has a nice view of Sandia peak.
The kitchens and bathrooms were well-stocked; you really don't need to bring much other than your food, clothes, and basic toiletries. Everything was very clean and well-kept.
I like that this place feels remote and private, but is still just a short drive from many amenities. We happened to get to stay here during Corrales' Harvest Festival, which was fun for us and our kids.
Chip was very communicative in the booking and preparation process, and greeted us with a generous "goodie basket" and overview of the home. There was an accidental cancellation through the VRBO system, and he helped work it without any trouble. He also tipped us off about the harvest festival, what to see, and where the road closures were for that event.
We would highly recommend this location for families looking for a quiet getaway without having to go too far from civilization, and hope to return the next time we visit family in the area.
This home is beautiful, spacious, immaculate, and very tasteful. The yard is outstanding as well ! The owners are wonderful and accommodating. Truly an outstanding property with everything you need! I will be back!
This home has ample space in a lovely setting, and is well supplied with all you need. We enjoyed the yard and upper deck off the master suite and plenty of bathroom space. (Older folks might have trouble getting luggage up stairs to second floor, and having to climb into tub/shower.) Make sure you get instructions of working the heat and A/C. Owners very responsive and attentive. If you are looking for a rental in this location, this is it!
My family and I stayed in this very large and charming adobe style home. We were greeted by the property manager that showed us everything we needed to know and was available to answer questions throughout our stay. The owners were also available with any issues that may arise, quick to respond and very friendly. The house is very large and perfect for entertaining. The kitchen is fully stocked. There is extra beds if needed and plenty of living space. The outdoor patios are peaceful with plenty of seating. The house is private and we felt perfectly safe in this location, Corrales is a beautiful town with easy access to Santa Fe. It's a quick walk to the coffee shop Jitters around the corner. Flying Star is a 5 minute drive and we also had a lovely dinner at the Luna Crow which was delicious. There are little shops that are worth exploring along Corrales Road. There is plenty of walking trails, we walked up Wagner in the morning and around the surrounding area. We drove a little ways on Alameda and parked by the Rio Grande and enjoyed a beautiful walk there as well. Plenty of Bike trails too. We truly enjoyed our stay and don't want to leave. We highly recommend, This truly is better than a home away from home because I wish it were my home! Thank you so much!
If you are looking for a country home for your family, with all the amenities of a large city nearby, during your stay in Albuquerque, you can do no better than this lovely vacation sanctuary. It provided all the space we needed for our extended family and dogs. The owners, Linda and Chip, were attentive without being intrusive. The home itself was tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished. We would definitely stay here again!
