Jason Sutherland purchased this cottage in 2014
My wife and I have been in hospitality for years, we worked at a five star hotel before we got the opportunity to buy my grandparent's place. So we always wanted to do a bed and breakfast deal. It was our opportunity to remodel the cottage and make the best of it, doing what we do best becoming a host and offer people our hospitality our own 5 star cottage.
I love this place so much from growing up to becoming the owner, it brings back a lot of memory. The view the scenery being able to just step out onto my porch and see wildlife.
We liked the rustic little house; they are making improvements (new paint, new kitchen sink) and taking it in the right direction. It was disappointing that one of the nearby neighbors played afternoon->nighttime music so loudly, for so many hours, it was like being on the same block as a nightclub in the city....not the quiet country ambiance we were hoping for.
Other than that, our #1 suggestion would be to put real curtains/blinds on the bedroom windows, not just pretty see-through curtains. (Some people like to sleep past sunup and need the room dark to do do so, and also there are at least 3 nearby neighbors who could see in the windows during an evening stroll--not what you want if you're changing clothes for bed, for example .)
The new pellet stove provided excellent heat & the kitchen was well stocked. Local people were friendly & we saw deer twice, right next to the road, driving to/from the home.
We enjoyed our stay in Dolores, and took many short day trips! Cabin was stocked with everything we needed, beds were comfortable, the pellet stove kept us cozy and warm, and the owner, Jason, was very accommodating, he made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. Thanks!
Our stay at the Mountain View Cottage was awesome. The owners made us feel like family and went out of their way to makes sure we had everything we needed. The views from their property are spectacular. It is located close enough to town to get anything you need, but but far enough to enjoy the scenic San Juan country side outside your door.
This property was fantastic and the owners were super quick to accommodate us last minute for the night. The pellet stove kept us toasty all night and the views were great from the back door towards the mountains.
Nice, quiet location with scenic views, centrally located to the many attractions of the Four Corners region.
This was the perfect spot for a get-a-way for my husband and me for our 25th anniversary. The property is beautiful and the cottage is cute, clean, comfortable and well stocked. It's a perfect spot as a home base to explore this part of Colorado. Jason was very responsive, friendly and a great host.
