About Michele and Dan Lenze

We were blessed to purchase our mountain home in 2006 and our 4 children have grown up exploring all that Powder Horn and the High Country have to offer. We live in Greensboro, but every chance we get, we head for the mountains. We have done many upgrades to our home, and filled it with antiques. We help maintain the trails on Powder Horn and enjoy hiking, swimming in many of the swimming holes along Laurel Creek, kayaking, fishing the lakes and streams, and tennis. Our favorite part of the day is relaxing on the deck to watch the beautiful sunset over the mountains!!! It is our home away from home!!!

Michele and Dan Lenze purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Michele and Dan Lenze chose Deep Gap

Our home is suited for small or larger groups. The location is perfect to explore the High Country, but there is plenty to do right on Powder Horn Mountain without leaving the area. With the vast number of trails for hiking, fishing lakes and stream, Community pool, clubhouse with Pool tables and Ping pong, there is plenty to do on the mountain.

What makes this cabin unique

Gated Community with 3 Lakes, streams, hiking trails, Clubhouse with fitness equipment, Pool tables & Ping Pong. Community Pool, Chapel, & Campground all within Powder Horn. Come see why we love it here so much!!!

My friends and I had a great stay at this cabin!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had a wonderful time at this cabin. It is in a neighborhood, but felt like we were off by ourselves with no one else around, which was nice. We spent a lot of time on the deck, which was our favorite part, and the main reason I rented here. You can tell that the owners really love their home, with good reason, and this made it very cozy and homey. They were very nice and responsive, although we had no issues, only a few questions. This is a great place to unplug, enjoy the view and the company of friends. I would definitely rent here again!

Enjoyed our visit

  • 4 of 5

Spent 5 nights at this home between Christmas and New Years. Overall we enjoyed it very much. The owners were pleasant to work with. A few things: A member of our family is allergic to dogs, very apparent that a dog has been in this home. Our family member was sneezing and had puffy eyes during our whole stay, and had to be on antihistamine . Owners should make it clear that a dog has been in this home! Not sure if it was due to the extreme cold. but the smell outside the house due to the septic was horrible. Trash was an issue as well, while there are buried trash cans the pickup is only on Mondays and our group had way more trash than we could fit in bin. We ended up bringing trash back to Florida with us! Much of the furniture and bedding is small, lots of antiques. So, if you have tall people in your group you'll probably have to flip a coin like we did to decide who gets what bedroom. Area is beautiful and remote, is a bit of a drive from the gated entrance to the house, so bring all supplies at one time.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. We will certainly investigate the septic smell outside. There is a community trash & recycling center about 3 miles from our home. Directions are provided in our hospitality documents. We make our property manager's number as well as our personal number available for immediate assistance if there is a problem during our guests stay. Glad we could locate and return one of your party's Bose speaker.

Cozy Mountain Stay

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Powder Horn Mountain as 6 couples. Each couple was able to have their own space, but some had to split up into two single beds in one room (we had to draw numbers out of a hat to choose rooms to see who would get the master). The living room is perfect for our size though. There is plenty of seats and room for board games -- which we spent an entire day playing due to the weather. The kitchen is well-stocked with all the supplies we needed to prepare meals, and there were plenty of towels, but be sure to bring toilet paper and paper towels. The closest grocery store we could find is 25 min away. The view from the porch is stunning, but it comes at a cost. Our smaller cars struggled as they climbed the steep roads to the house, but the Subarus had no problems. Just something to be aware of ahead of time. We also had a lovely time at the fire pit. There's plenty of wood around the area, but we ended up picking up firewood anyways because it rained the day before. Thank you so much for a lovely visit, Lenze's! We'll be talking about this trip for many years to come!

Downstairs felt a smell of mold, we spent only 2 nights

We will choose a newer cottage next time

Owner's Response: We are sorry you wouldn't choose our home again. There is no mold. The basement may feel damp when first arriving after being closed up between guests as it is below ground level. Once the house is opened it resolves quickly. We are currently planning a full kitchen upgrade as well as living room furniture.
