Beautiful home with everything you need

  • 5 of 5

The house was filled with everything we could hope for and was cozy and wonderful for the first cold night of Autumn. We ended up staying an extra day since we wanted to explore the land more than time would allow and there were canoes and kayaks for our group of 5 to all take onto the water. Thanks for your hospitality - you made my birthday just great!

Excellent place

  • 5 of 5

Owners are great, we had to slightly adjust our days and Maureen worked with us. The house was spotless clean, decorated beautifully, well stocked kitchen with everything you need. Plenty of sheets, bath towels etc. the lake was beautiful, my son and I canoed in the crystal clear water, canoe, paddles, life jackets included. I brought very little fishing gear but was able to catch six fish in a short period of time. About 30-40 yards behind the house opens up to a well marked trail for hiking, I walked it for a little while but turned back as I wasn't prepared for a hike. Plenty of places to eat in town and the towns of Oxford and Norwich are both close. We picked our son up at Colgate and hung out for the weekend. My only regret is a weekend is not enough time to enjoy this place. My wife and I are already thinking of when we can go back. Thanks Maureen, hope to be back soon.

So Relaxing - absolutely the best!!!

  • 5 of 5

We want to thank Maureen and Bob for the most relaxing vacation! Staying in your lovely cottage was just the best! The cottage was so cozy and had everything we needed. The open floor plan allowed us to be together while we were cooking and others were just hanging out. Each morning my daughter and I took a walk into town and had a great time exploring. One morning we walked up Furnace Hill Road and had a view of the lake from the other side. Guilford Lake is so peaceful and pretty from every angle. I felt so lucky to be able to stay at "The Overflow" just a few steps from the lake. We enjoyed kayaking, swimming, and sitting by the lake . It was so relaxing and a chance to un-connect from the usual busy schedule and connect with nature and family. I highly recommend staying here to anyone needing a relaxing environment - both in the cottage and out by the lake. Maureen takes care of every detail and is a welcoming host. I really hope to return!!!

My family and I recently spent the weekend at The Overflow. From the moment we drove up into the driveway, we were in awe. Everything was perfect. The surroundings were peaceful and beautiful. Everything you need is there. I can not express how wonderful this place was. As I expressed to Maureen, I will definitely be back again soon.

The perfect mini getaway for you and your family. Highly recommended.

The Cancel family.

We were very pleased to locate this charming cottage on Guilford Lake. The cottage was very well maintained and extremely clean. It was very roomy with ample storage. There were plenty of blankets and towels available. There was even a canoe for use to paddle around the lake. Don't forget to go to the D'Vine Times restaurant in Guilford. The food and atmosphere were wonderful. The owners were very pleasant and available if needed. We will definitely stay at the cottage on any future trips to New York

Beautiful, relaxing, affordable escape from NYC!

  • 5 of 5

I came up with my girlfriend for half of Labor Day weekend not knowing what to expect. We booked last minute and the property was new to HomeAway and seemed less expensive then most other lakefront options. But we were pretty much blown away. The cottage was beautiful and tastefully renovated. Everything was very clean, and we had everything we needed there to enjoy our getaway (including many freshly washed towels and linens). It was also large to the point that we easily could have had 3 other couples there with us. The owner, Maureen, is a gem and was responsive and helpful throughout. She lives close by and made herself very accessible without being at all intrusive. She also was very lenient about check in and check out time. The beautiful lake is just across a small road, and there is a canoe available for use, which we enjoyed throughout our stay. And we just couldn't get enough of the mountain air, which seemed even fresher there then what we had come to expect from the Catskill mountains.

Our only minor concern was that none of the upstairs windows had shades or blinds. However, Maureen assured us that even though nobody could see in through those windows, she still would make the change for the next guests based on our feedback. Truly exceptional service.

About our only regret was not being able to try the restaurant Maureen owns in town, which looked great but was closed during the holiday weekend. All in all a great getaway for a fraction of the price!
