Here is a recent review: "This property is located in an upscale neighborhood (no sidewalks, lots of trees) and the area is quiet, restful and safe. Ken is a very friendly host and makes his guests feel at home and truly welcomed.
The Artist Studio is very nicely renovated and is decorated and furnished with quality furnishings. As a traveler, himself, Ken has stocked the studio with everything a guest needs. I stayed a month and when I return to the Portland area, I will want to stay here!!!"
This Artist Studio apartment is on the grounds of the Lovely Victorian also listed on VRBO and can be rented in combination with the main house and a Garden Apartment. Ask for a quote for the combined properties.

I am the property owner, live on the premises and am a world traveler (photo from Brazil) and love to host fellow travelers. My apartment is above the house providing security and service to my renters. I can also provide information on sightseeing, restaurants, wine tours, yoga and dance studios and hiking and biking in Portland.
Ken Murray purchased this apartment in 2005
I bought this large property so I could live in this fine neighborhood and also rent to guests. The area is great for recreation, sightseeing and family visits.
This property has great access to downtown portland while enjoying the quiet of a pretty neighborhood. Access to 3 freeways and other major avenues make sightseeing easy. Located between 2 portland villages, hillsdale and multnomah village. Hillsdale also has its own farmers market.
Great pad a great value. Mr. Murray is a gentleman. Studio apt over garage is not fancy but well appointed, clean, spacious and as advertised. Great location to be for our house hunting journey. We'd love to own in this neighborhood. We would rent from Ken again.
This was just what we were looking for in an anniversary getaway! Ken the owner was very nice and accommodating. We would recommend this if u are just looking for a simple quaint pleasant experience! A home away from home!
We stayed in the artist studio, a nice and clean apartment. It's in a very quiet neighbourhood and close to Lewis & Clark College where our daughter is studying. Ken was very friendly and helpful. We used his perfectly maintained bicycles to visit the center of Portland. We can recommend this place to every one and we will definitely book this apartment again.
The house was beautiful with the roses blooming and the Victorian style. The apartment was private, clean, and afforded us all the amenities to make our stay enjoyable. Ken was responsive to communication and this provided for no hiccups in planning/arriving. I would definitely stay here again when making the trek out near the Portland area.
The more we use VRBO the more we consider it the best way to really see a city. You start to feel like a neighbor and that was clearly the case here. We rented the studio apartment upstairs, but Ken has two other VRBO units made up in the house and offers a discount if you book all three. The other two are what I would consider the "main house" and the third unit is the upstairs of the main house. If you've rented both units in the main house you can access them both by using the staircase inside. But if you only grab the upstairs unit your rental will be accessed by using steps along the outside of the house.
The studio is accessed by going through the garage and up some stairs. It was much bigger to me than what the pictures showed. The nice part was we were able to put our infant to sleep with our video monitor and our noise in the main house wouldn't disturb the nap.
The shower in the studio was really quite nice and the entire property was very clean. It obviously helped we could cook in the main house but having access to the essentials in the studio would make for a fine situation if booked alone. I'd probably only cook breakfast there and plan on all other meals being out. But that's what you're on vacation for right? The location is close to everything. Just about 10 minutes to the Zoo and 30-40 to downtown and the airport depending on traffic. I also suggest the new Top Golf (look it up) in nearby Hillsboro.
We never had problems parking but the driveway from the street is quite narrow. Loved walking around the neighborhood and spending time in the front yard garden and on the porch. Produce everywhere!
The skylights in the studio were a wonderful way to wake up in the morning and we were able to keep the windows open to take advantage of the cool nights. There is one window AC unit that works quite well but on the hottest of days we did feel it to be warm. Our video baby montior said it was 79 degrees during one afternoon nap.
There is plenty of glassware, mugs, dishes, and other items you'll need for your stay.
Finally, the owners communication was wonderful. We didn't have to contact him for anything because everything was so well laid out and explained on the print out he provides at check-in.
Make sure to walk or drive down to the village. PLENTY of shops, farmers markets, and resturants to see. Brunch is a must!
Would certainly stay here again.
I really enjoyed my stay here. Ken was right on top of things and I always felt he was there if I needed anything. The apartment was very nice and very clean. The bed was great. I was minutes away from downtown Portland. I have no doubt I will book this place again. Ken's overall customer service can easily be ranked a 10 on a 1 to 10 scale with 10 being the very best. I would have no hesitation recommending this place to my friends or family.
The owner can provide travel information and is often on premise.
