About the property

282: Tiny House, Heart Of Missoula

A few years ago, we built a tiny house in Missoula, Montana. We call it 282 because the space is 282 square feet of bright, clean, open space. Our family of four lived in 282 for two years and we found tiny living quite comfortable. We have since moved into the main residence on the property and want to share our tiny living experience with others who are visiting our lovely mountain town. Recently updated, 282 offers one queen-sized bed and one pull-out, full-sized bed perfect for children. The space can accomodate four people (two adults and two children, for example) or two adults quite comfortably. 282 is a studio with a full kitchen (stove, fridge, sink, etc.) and one bathroom with a sink, toilet and shower. It is completely stocked with dishes, pots, pans, a coffee maker and towels. It has a kitchen table and french doors that open onto a small patio. The house is seperated from the main residence by a privacy fence and has its own entrance but you are welcome to hang out in the backyard by the garden beds.

282 is a ten-minute walk to downtown Missoula, a ten-minute bike ride (20-minute walk) to the University of Montana and is nestled in Missoula's eclectic Northside neighborhood. Full of artists, writers and filmmakers, the Northside has a brewery, an art's center and, in summer, an outdoor cinema. It's a short bike ride to Greenough Park, the Rattlesnake trailhead and the Clark Fork River.

We have public transportation a few blocks away and our close-in location allows you to walk downtown.

We live onsite and are happy to help answer any questions about swimming holes, restaurants serving local food or where to find the best latte in town.

About Jennifer Savage

My husband and I moved to Missoula 14 years ago for a one-year job in a van packed with books. We never left. We've lived on a farm surrounded by fallen down fences where we had our two daughters. We've lived in the heart of Missoula in a tiny house with our daughters, two dogs and a wayward bunny. After two amazing years of living tiny, we've moved out of our 282 square-foot house and want to share it. We love our town, our community and our home. We hope you will too.

Jennifer Savage purchased this house in 2009

Northside Christmas

  • 5 of 5

Second stay at Northside. This time during Christmas. Another great experience with the added bonus of 6+ inches of snow. Northside stayed warm throughout our stay. Easy access to the hills trails, our family and all the places that make Missoula special. Northside has all the amenities needed to make our stay pleasant and relaxing. Thanks and we'll see you next summer.

Cute house

Very attractive, clean house. Enjoyed the press coffee maker. The air conditioner this particular summer was a welcome relief.

Such a great house in a close-in, cool neighborhood. House is very quiet and has a comfortable and charming patio to enjoy your coffee, which is thoughtful supplied. Highly recommend and will stay again without hesitation.

Charming and Cool

  • 5 of 5

This is a very nicely situated "North End" accommodation. We had an early July visit to Missoula and enjoyed 282 very much. Entering and exiting was convenient through a back gate. The patio area was well shaded, peaceful and enjoyable. The A/C was much appreciated and the bed was comfortable. (Two adults.) The refrigerator was a bit small and one would need to shop daily if desiring to prep meals. Overall we felt this was a good value and superior to staying in a motel. Thanks for 282!
