We were introduced to this amazing place over five years ago. My husband, an avid fly fisherman and professional guide, has been looking for the perfect Montana property his entire adult life…and we still can’t believe we found it! We actually built & moved into our permanent home nearby the cabin (~450 ft up the road) in the summer 2015.
The comfortable 1100 ft2 cabin is situated on 20 acres surrounded by National Forest on 3 sides with beautiful Whitepine Creek flowing right through it. It’s on a well-maintained National Forest Service dirt road and is the last structure before millions of acres of the Kootenai & Coeur d’Alene national forests. The proximity to national forest affords us regular sightings of white-tailed deer, moose, elk, wild turkeys, coyote, hummingbirds and many other flora and fauna of the region. All you have to do is look up to see the Milky Way on clear nights!
The cabin has one bedroom with a comfortable queen-sized bed, two brand new full-sized beds in the open loft upstairs, and one bathroom (shower, no tub). The kitchen is stocked with dishes, glasses, cookware, utensils, toaster, coffeemaker, microwave, refrigerator/freezer and gas range/oven. We can also provide basic spices and cooking ingredients for your convenience. Admittedly it’s a little small but I’ve made an entire Thanksgiving dinner in it!
There’s a 42” LED flat screen TV and Blu Ray/DVD player for watching movies or listening to music (satellite TV not yet available). We have a library of DVDs, CDs and books for your entertainment (Redbox location now in Thompson Falls). A compact stacked washer/dryer, detergent and fabric softener are available for use as well.
The large patio boasts peaceful and relaxing views of the valley with patio chairs, umbrella, and BBQ. The backyard has a sturdy game hook and small outdoor fire ring (complimentary firewood provided).
We are off grid but you wouldn’t know it with our solar system and backup generators. There is telephone and satellite internet but no cell service – we don’t consider that a bad thing!
We are approximately 20 minutes from the village of Trout Creek. There is a small grocery store, hardware store, gas stations, boat rental, motels, and restaurants/bars. The town of Thompson Falls is a little further away (~25-30 mins) in the opposite direction on Highway 200 but offers a larger grocery store, state liquor store, gas stations, and more bar/restaurant options.
The Clark Fork Valley is truly incredible and a beautiful drive in from every direction. The Spokane airport is ~3 hours drive to our cabin through Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint, ID and Lake Pend Oreille from the west. Missoula is ~2 hours drive through the valley from the east, and Kalispell is ~2.5 hours around the amazing Flathead Lake.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions. We hope to see you soon!

Had a wonderful time!!
Really had a great time at the Cabin. Stayed 7 nights. We never noticed that the cabin is "off grid". Of course we never used the air conditioner but didn't need to. The area cools off nicely in the evenings so we left all of the windows open at night and buttoned everything up in the morning and the cabin stayed very pleasant throughout the day. The back deck is much bigger than the pictures show. Lots of great hiking right up the road from the cabin with several trails covering miles of the surrounding area. There's a good map in the cabin to keep you oriented. If you take the road from the cabin up to the top, just past mile marker 15, it's an eleven mile trek one way (quad or truck preferred). Lots of wildlife in the area as we saw bear, deer and moose. I would recommend carrying bear spray just for peace of mind if nothing else. Didn't want to leave.
Had a great time!
This is a very nice cabin. My two adult sons and I met here to get away for a few days and do some fishing. (Whitepine creek was a little low for fishing, so drove to Clark Fork river about 20 min. away). Cabin is new and very clean. Owner's home is close by and Mary and Clay were quite attentive. Temperature got up to the 90s during our stay and they came and installed the AC unit (although only needed for part of the afternoon, cabin cools off nicely in the evening). Beds are comfortable and kitchen had everything we needed for our stay. Definitely recommend.
Thanks for the great review and the opportunity to host your stay...we appreciate it!
Clean, fun, relaxing
We had a great time staying at this cabin over the weekend. The kitchen is well stocked with everything to cook meals and even containers to put leftovers in. Mary and Clay were great to work with when setting up our reservation and answering questions. We really enjoyed relaxing on the deck listening to the creek flow by. A couple hours into our stay both my wife and I were already talking how we wanted to come back in the near future. Our two year old daughter loved every waking moment at this cabin and each day still talks about it. We still can't get over how peaceful it was to stay at this cabin. Thank you Mary and Clay for sharing this gem of a location and cabin with our family!
We are so pleased you and your family enjoyed your stay. Many thanks again for taking such great care of the cabin...we hope to see you again sometime!
Great hosts and cabin!
You won't be disappointed staying at this awesome cabin! It is a beautiful property in a beautiful location. The cabin is gorgeous inside and out and my family and I were very comfortable at the property. The fire pit with the stocked wood pile was a huge plus that my kids loved. It's a great place to unplug and relax or just enjoy the beautiful area surrounding the cabin. I really appreciated the cabin being dog friendly and Mary and her husband were even kind enough to mail me some dog food bowls I left. What great people!
We're always happy to hear people had a chance to unplug and unwind during their stay - so thank you for choosing the cabin for your family getaway....and many thanks for leaving it so clean!
Simply Amazing !!!
This cabin has the WOW factor as soon as you drive up. But to just think the outside is so nice wait until you go inside. The cabin smells like it is brand new and all the wood and overall view is just simply amazing. The cabin has everything and then some to cook indoors or out and along with a nice deck and chairs it also has a fire pit. Our dogs enjoyed roaming the area and we took walks up the road as well as explored other areas close by. We even made a couple of trips into town just to eat at some of the good restaurants they have. You couldn't ask for any better Hosts as they want to make sure your stay is a good one yet give you your privacy. I was hesitant because you are off the grid but it was so relaxing and peaceful we didn't want to leave.
So happy you made our cabin part of your adventure! It was a pleasure to meet you both and your beautiful dogs. We really appreciate the positive feedback and thank you for taking the time to write a review. Come back anytime!
lovely secluded cabin
Thank you so much for letting us visit your lovely cabin. We had a wonderful time. Enjoyed our many walks down the secluded service road and trails with our dogs and enjoyed the many starry nights hanging out by the fire or on the deck. The cabin was equipped with everything you could ever need and your help and guidance was so kind. We will certainly keep you in mind on our next visit to Montana. take care
We appreciate your kind words and patience during your stay (we have a new fridge!). It was a pleasure to meet you and your pups. Thank you for choosing our cabin for your anniversary!
