We were introduced to this amazing place over five years ago. My husband, an avid fly fisherman and professional guide, has been looking for the perfect Montana property his entire adult life…and we still can’t believe we found it! We actually built & moved into our permanent home nearby the cabin (~450 ft up the road) in the summer 2015.
The comfortable 1100 ft2 cabin is situated on 20 acres surrounded by National Forest on 3 sides with beautiful Whitepine Creek flowing right through it. It’s on a well-maintained National Forest Service dirt road and is the last structure before millions of acres of the Kootenai & Coeur d’Alene national forests. The proximity to national forest affords us regular sightings of white-tailed deer, moose, elk, wild turkeys, coyote, hummingbirds and many other flora and fauna of the region. All you have to do is look up to see the Milky Way on clear nights!
The cabin has one bedroom with a comfortable queen-sized bed, two brand new full-sized beds in the open loft upstairs, and one bathroom (shower, no tub). It easily sleeps 4 but could sleep up to 6. The kitchen is stocked with dishes, glasses, cookware, utensils, toaster, coffeemaker, microwave, refrigerator/freezer and gas range/oven. We can also provide basic spices and cooking ingredients for your convenience. Admittedly it’s a little small but I’ve made an entire Thanksgiving dinner in it!
There’s a 42” LED flat screen TV and Blu Ray/DVD player for watching movies or listening to music (satellite TV not yet available). We have a library of DVDs, CDs and books for your entertainment (Redbox location now in Thompson Falls). A compact stacked washer/dryer, detergent and fabric softener are available for use as well.
The large patio boasts peaceful and relaxing views of the valley with patio chairs, umbrella, and BBQ. The backyard has a sturdy game hook and small outdoor fire ring (complimentary firewood provided).
We are off grid but you wouldn’t know it with our solar system and backup generators. There is telephone and satellite internet but no cell service – we don’t consider that a bad thing!
We are approximately 20 minutes from the village of Trout Creek. There is a small grocery store, hardware store, gas stations, boat rental, motels, and restaurants/bars. The town of Thompson Falls is a little further away (~25-30 mins) in the opposite direction on Highway 200 but offers a larger grocery store, state liquor store, gas stations, and more bar/restaurant options.
The Clark Fork Valley is truly incredible and a beautiful drive in from every direction. The Spokane airport is ~3 hours drive to our cabin through Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint, ID and Lake Pend Oreille from the west. Missoula is ~2 hours drive through the valley from the east, and Kalispell is ~2.5 hours around the amazing Flathead Lake.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions. We hope to see you soon!
Remote, peaceful, rejuvenating valley.
Borders millions of acres of national forest.
You won't be disappointed staying at this awesome cabin! It is a beautiful property in a beautiful location. The cabin is gorgeous inside and out and my family and I were very comfortable at the property. The fire pit with the stocked wood pile was a huge plus that my kids loved. It's a great place to unplug and relax or just enjoy the beautiful area surrounding the cabin. I really appreciated the cabin being dog friendly and Mary and her husband were even kind enough to mail me some dog food bowls I left. What great people!
This cabin has the WOW factor as soon as you drive up. But to just think the outside is so nice wait until you go inside. The cabin smells like it is brand new and all the wood and overall view is just simply amazing. The cabin has everything and then some to cook indoors or out and along with a nice deck and chairs it also has a fire pit. Our dogs enjoyed roaming the area and we took walks up the road as well as explored other areas close by. We even made a couple of trips into town just to eat at some of the good restaurants they have. You couldn't ask for any better Hosts as they want to make sure your stay is a good one yet give you your privacy. I was hesitant because you are off the grid but it was so relaxing and peaceful we didn't want to leave.
Thank you so much for letting us visit your lovely cabin. We had a wonderful time. Enjoyed our many walks down the secluded service road and trails with our dogs and enjoyed the many starry nights hanging out by the fire or on the deck. The cabin was equipped with everything you could ever need and your help and guidance was so kind. We will certainly keep you in mind on our next visit to Montana. take care
Just an all around FABULOUS cabin, owners, and property to have some time away on!
Clay and Mary were such wonderful, caring, and pleasant hosts! We really appreciated them opening up the cabin for others
to rent- and sharing their bit of heaven on earth with us!. It's an absolute beautiful cabin, with everything you'd need for any length of stay!
We loved the fact that there was no TV/cable except DVD movies! We also loved the fact of NO Cell Phone coverage!
It enabled us to visit family close by, and have our 2 big dogs with us, which was just awesome! Appreciating most the opportunity
to have big dogs along, and showing what GREAT DOGS they are. To be able to join us in such a remarkable place. They had the time of their life! BBQ on deck was amazing too! As we utilized it a few times! So extremely quiet and peaceful! Plus the starry sky was something you DO NOT WANT TO MISS! Absolutely Beautiful!! Beyond Imagination.
The road to nowhere, and the creek were amazing walks with dogs and family! Just an all around AWESOME time away!
We would HIGHLY recommend anyone taking time to check out the cabin get away! It'd be WELL WORTH your while!! We'll definitely go back again!! Thank You So Much, Clay and Mary for your trust in opening up your cabin to us, and so many others!
Our week long stay was incredible. The cabin was clean and spacious, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was more than adequate. I have rented many homes, cabins and apartments in the past and this one ranks the best of the lot. Beyond the physical cabin was the fact that Mary and Clay were outstanding host willing to go way beyond what is required. Finally I need to mention that Clay is a former (but in the process of becoming an active) fly fishing guide. I have never met a guide who was more willing to share, enthusiastically, his vast knowledge .
Mary and Clay set up the most amazing vacation for us. The fact that we were able to bring our dog (yellow labrador retreiver) made for a wonderful Christmas Cabin trip. Mary and Clay were very accomidating of our early arrival and were kind enough to let us check in early after 16 hours of traveling. They were so kind in greeting us and left us the cutest gift basket and made us feel right at home. Mary and Clay placed a fresh cut Christmas tree in the living room and needless to say it was the coziest, and most perfect touch. The cabin was gorgeous and had everything that we needed. Our dog loved to run and roam around the property which was so gorgeous and quiet and secluded. The cabin was very clean and my husband and I were thrilled that the kitchen had everything that we needed. We made ourselves right at home and felt very comfortable. The back deck was a beautiful hangout spot, we even saw a few deer walking past around dusk. Clay and Mary were just so kind and genuine. It is July and my husband and I are already talking about when we can go back. We had such a great experience staying at Clay and Mary's property in Montana that we have been considering buying our own home in Montana thanks to our amazing experience in Trout Creek at Clay and Mary's secluded cozy cabin.
