This Florida cottage is a converted shrimp house. The decor is tropical with tile floors and ceiling fans. This 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom (shower, no tub) air conditioned cottage is well -furnished and sleeps only 2.
The quaint cottage is on Cow Creek overlooking a small bay. Manatees, dolphins and many water fowl frequent the area. Enjoy your coffee from the waterfront seating area. Fishing is available from the attached floating dock. Mullet, jacks, snapper sheephead are in the creek. The creek is tidal and his spring feed, and that attracts the manatees. The manatees go by the cottage daily and it is a short paddle up to the springs where they hang out. If you bring your flats boat, Red fish, snook and trout fishing areas are both north and south. Grouper, grunts, hogfish and cobia are west. The Gulf Waters of Hudson are shallow and typically offer protection from high surf conditions, making it ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and Hobie Cat Sailing. There are many artificial and natural reefs for fishing and diving off Hudson (Home Port of "Catching Hell").
We chose Hudson for our staycation because we wanted to be with nature far from the big city and no phones and enjoy God's endless creation; we like to bike and hike and snorkel, etc. The Cozy Cottage is impeccably clean, the bed is very comfortable, the beautiful back porch and dock on the water ... it was the perfect little paradise for us. Chuck and Jarry are so down to earth and friendly and go way beyond the norm to make sure the cottage has everything you need from a wide variety of coffee to bathroom supplies to mosquito spray. All you need to buy are your groceries. Not only is the cottage on the water with canoes, kayaks, fishing and wildlife, but it is also within an hour's drive of many biking and hiking trails and Ft. De Soto State Park (voted top 5 best family beaches in the world) where we went snorkeling and saw a giant conch and starfish for the first time. If you haven't been to Fort De Soto, you have to go; biggest, cleanest and prettiest beach I've ever been too and plan to go back next year!!! (and we are from Ft. Lauderdale)! We didn't see the manatee while canoeing from the cottage but we sure had fun looking for them. The stars at night are very bright and beautiful to look at. There's a bait store a few yards down in one direction and a cute bar in the other direction called the Sea Shanty a few yards away yet we never heard any noise coming from it. Very quiet and peaceful area.
Had a great time, plenty to see on our canoeing trips over the weekend. Very clean, well managed place. Chuck and Jarry were very nice and helpful on anything! Only thing is if you're bring a boat you'll be using it according to high tide as it gets very shallow at low tide (the canoe drug in spots) other than that it was A-1 in our opinion. Will visit again!
Don't let the outside fool you, interior is nicely updated. We encountered ducks on a daily basis, of course feeding them was a joy. It kept me from missing our pets. We did arrive with a storm coming in, so the first few days were just relaxing on the porch under a tin roof, so soothing. Use of the kayaks was wonderful, we went to the gulf and back to a spring. Seeing manatees going in toward the spring was great. It probably would have been better if the storm didn't turn up the water. We will definitely stay again, away from the hustle and bustling of traffic that you get when you stay in places like Orlando or Tampa.
My daughter and I came to the cottage in order to have a great place to relax for a few days, and it was the perfect choice. The property itself was cozy, clean, well-maintained, and perfectly situated on the creek. The house was well-stocked and we wanted for nothing during our stay there. It was quiet and entirely relaxing, and we especially enjoyed taking the kayaks out for a trip down the creek and watching the manatees off the dock in the morning. Chuck and Jarry were gracious hosts and made us feel so welcome. We would definitely recommend it to anyone.
We enjoyed staying at the cottage. Chuck and Jarry are really helpful and nice. I enjoyed watching the birds around the creek. A nice place to relax and a nice base to leave from daily and explore.
This place was amazing! Great place for sitting on the dock watching all the wildlife, everything from stingrays, dolphins, even a sea turtle.. Best vacation I've ever had.. Chuck and Jarry are wonderful host!!!!
