We are located in Western Montana, 12 miles east of Superior, 50 miles west of Missoula, Montana, off of I-90.
This home took 1st place in Mineral County's Tour of Homes.
As a little piece of Western Montana's history, we thought we'd share the bio of this amazing farm house with you!
The Quartz House was originally a seven-bedroom farmhouse sitting just east of the Highway 93 interchange off of I-90. Built in 1912, it served as an occasional stage stop-over for people leaving Missoula too late to get home with their horses and wagons. It was moved to its present location in 2007 and completely remodeled and updated. We think it fitting that as it provided accommodations for travelers 100 years ago, it can continue to do so today!

We are an active family with 4 kids. Prior to acquiring and remodeling the Quartz House, we lived in an itty bitty cabin!
Nicole Donally/Owner - KAT Thomspon/Property Manager purchased this farmhouse in 2007
We moved this house out from the western edge of Missoula in 2007 and poured our hearts into remodeling it for our family of 6. We kept as many historical features as possible, and most upgrades were done with an eye to preserving the house's history. When we had to relocate for job reasons in 2010, we were heartbroken. While we've had long-term renters on occasion, we decided to turn the Quartz House into a full-time vacation rental so others could enjoy it as well. (Bonus: we now get to stay there again when we are in the area!) Come enjoy the peace and quiet the house and its setting has to offer!
Stepping into the Quartz House is like stepping back in time (with updated plumbing and amenities, of course!). The house is big -- 3600 square feet on the main and second floors -- and the rooms are spacious as well. We could (and still do) host large get-togethers, with plenty of room for making/serving food, sitting down to eat, playing games, and just hanging out visiting. Our kids still talk about how much they miss the house, and they love the opportunity to stay there once again when we reserve our dates! Personally, I love waking up in the morning and making the rounds of the windows to see what wildlife is out and about, or sitting on the back porch with a cup of coffee enjoying the serenity and beauty of the place.
First off, we didn't have any idea what the area would be like. Pulling off the highway and immediately into rural farmland nestled up to foothills. The farm house is a couple meandering miles from the highway, not too far, but far enough to feel a different pace of life is normal. We pulled up to the property, and our jaws dropped. The farmhouse sits quite a ways back from the road, and it's surrounded by a quaint wheat field. The wheat was waist-high and golden, which rolled on for a couple acres in each direction. Then, in the middle of the golden wheat field was this inviting, stunningly beautiful 2 story farmhouse. With a massive porch on the front and back, windows on every side with unobstructed views for days. Stepping inside the home we nearly cried with joy; high ceilings, fireplace, uncluttered, clean, super quiet, decorated with antique furniture, claw foot tubs, a gourmet kitchen and smelling delightful. Our kids were giddy and my wife, who is a stickler for clean places with no bugs, breathed a sigh of relief. We've rented a lot of VRBOs & Home Away stays. This one is, by far, the best we've ever been in. It created such special memories our family will enjoy for years to come. We will definitely be back!
1) Bring a white noise machine or app. This house is wonderfully quiet. The neighborhood is so quiet you can hear the leaves rustle in the trees when the wind blows. It was just our small family staying there, but I could imagine if I was there with others, I'd want something to mask talking and footsteps if I were to go to bed early or sleep in late. haha
2) Groceries: The homeowner advised us to do our grocery shopping before we got to the house. I'm glad we listened! The nearest grocery store is far away. There are some basics at the house such as coffee (enough for a few pots. no paper filter required), tea bags, spices, salt & pepper, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, Tupperware.
3) Laundry: The house has a full-size washer and dryer, but you'll need to bring your own soap, softner, etc.
4) Fun: The National Bison Range and Glacier National Park are close enough to make day trips out of them.

We spent Thanksgiving weekend at the Quartz house and we could not have been happier!
The scenery was breathtaking and the house was absolutely fantastic. We arrived to this cozy and well-appointed Victorian home in the middle of a snow swept-field in rural to find that the picture's provided by the owner were spot-on! The house was immaculate and well prepared for our visit with everything clean and welcoming. The biggest problem with our arrival was the herd (at least a couple dozen) of deer milling in the fields around the house.
This house could easily accommodate several families with children of any age. The bedrooms all featured freshly clean linens with plenty of blankets and pillows - big plus for us. The kitchen was very spacious with room for simultaneous cooking, chatting, and family mayhem. There were plenty of bathrooms scattered about the house, another winning attribute for our family vacation spot.
The highlight for the adults was the amazing views (both morning and evening!) and the plentiful wildlife. The kids loved the huge chalk wall, the vast open fields for playing, and the plentiful space for running around. The father in me appreciated the kitchen layout - perfect for cooking with littles ones toddling about.
The location is great for anyone looking to get away from it all or to enjoy the amazing Montana outdoors. Hiking, biking, and adventure opportunities galore, and this place has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to the local wildlife.
The owner and property manager exceeded our expectations in their attentive and prompt communications. They responded quickly to questions and were marvelously flexible given the hectic holiday weekend.
The biggest downside of the house for us was that Google Maps and the Home Away map was a little bit off and we had to hunt around for the house.
We would recommend this house for families of all shapes and sizes. For a fraction of the cost of a hotel we got a five star experience. We will definitely be back!
