Incredible views and amazing service

  • 5 of 5

Our group stayed here for 2 nights in March 2018 -- not nearly long enough! The house itself is beautiful and well-appointed. There were very few indications of any damage following Hurricane Irma. All of the bedrooms and common areas were spacious and comfortable. And the view from the pool and patio areas is spectacular! Everyone in our group of 12 loved the house and location and wished we could have stayed longer.

Jim really made our stay special. He arranged van service for our group from the moment we arrived until we flew out. He also hooked us up with a massage therapist who came to the house! AND he arranged to have a few basic groceries available upon our arrival and even picked up dinner for us the first night!! We couldn't ask for a more gracious or accommodating host. We are counting the weeks until we can return!

The Best 50th Birthday that I could dream of!!

June 24, 2016

We stayed at Le Grand Vigie almost 2 years ago. We were reminiscing about the trip... I logged onto VRBO to view the property and realized that I did not leave a review!!! Big Mistake!!! I want everyone who looks at this property to know how wonderful it is. 8 days in Paradise. The home was comfortable and spacious. The service was impeccable. The view was breathtaking. When... not if... I return to Sint Maarten I would love to stay at this property again if they would have us again.

Most Amazing vacation we have ever had!!!!

  • 5 of 5

I honestly don't even know where to begin!! My husband and I had been to Sint Maarten 2 years ago and swore next time we came we would rent one of the houses up on the mountain and let me tell you we are so happy we did!!

We had never used vrbo before and didn't know what to expect but from start to finish Jim and Alain have made this the easy and most enjoyable experience ever. The pictures on here do not even do the house justice! It is so beautiful and that view!!!!

We brought 9 people with us to stay here including my husband's 85 year old Grandma. It is very private for a large party because each couple or family member has there own space and bathroom. No one ever felt like they were on top of each other. The guest house is awesome for privacy. The pool is very deep and perfect for swimming in. It was our favorite part of the whole house. Veronica the maid is such a sweetheart. She knows so much about the island and the house. If you have any questions just ask her! She did a great job cleaning and grandma absolutely loved when she was there so they could chat. The gardener is equally as amazing and helped us pick fresh mangos and starfruit which grow on the property. Even the guards at the bottom of the hill were great and very friendly.

The location is perfect, we never had to drive far to do the things we enjoyed doing. There are a couple of bars, restaurants, and a small grocery store located right down the street in Oyster Pond.

All I can say is if you are even contemplating staying here please don't hesitate anymore and book it! It was the first time I ever cried leaving a vacation :) Thank you La Grande Vigie for the most amazing memories!!! We plan on coming back very soon!

Great views from this house and a great location

  • 3 of 5

While we did enjoy our vacation, we did encounter issues with this house. We had ants in the kitchen every day and there were 3 bags of garbage left from the previous tenant. Other issues were that the TV's did not work, the phone was not working properly and the water ran out on day 3. We were told by the property manager that there was enough water for 12 people for the week - well there were only 5 of us. We could not shower, brush our teeth or use the toilet. We had to leave the property for the day. When we came back around 5, the water was still not working. So we call the property manager again. Seems that the water company never came to fill the tank and then when they did late that afternoon, they did not prime the tank. So once again no water. I blame this on the property manager. It is his job to make sure this was taken care of. It was a major issue since we could not enjoy the house that day. There was also lots of damage to the pool area - dozens of missing tiles around the pool which the property manager said was caused by a wedding party the week before. There is no way this was true - you could tell just by looking at it that the pool was in need of repair for quite a while. Many other small issue - broken mirrors, safes that did not work, cracks in the glass stove top, broken ceiling fans, stains on the couch, etc.

I feel the property manager, Cyril, did not do a very good job. The water issue is really inexcusable. How do you not check the water tank to make sure it is full for your tenants.

Our maid was wonderful. Very friendly and helpful.

This being said, we enjoyed St Martin very much and would stay at this house again if the issues were dealt with. A bit of work and this would be an unbelievable home...

We Stayed the week Of March 27 to April 3 which was not long enough!!! La Grande Vigie is more than I can say. Liz S summed it up perfectly and I really only have a few little bits to add . It was perfect for our group of 12. We had more than enough space. No one at anytime felt they were under foot. The views are really breath taking, amazing and beautiful. Having coffee each morning on the deck watching the sun come up is a sure miss. So lets start with Jim. He was wonderful to deal. Any questions or concerns we had he was quick to respond. The grounds keeper was a fantastic man and always on hand each day. He welcomed us each morning with a big smile on his face. The maid Veronica was great and very informative. Cyril surprised us at the airport which we were really grateful for. We were so overwhelmed that I don't think we would have found the villa. Ask Cyril about island traffic before you make plans to head out!!! The Villa is PERFECT. Out of 12 people, all 12 had nothing bad to say and they are a hard group to please!! So what does that tell you. Pool was fantastic. Really deep!!! There was all kinds of linen and towels available. Corner stores are just around the corner. We always felt safe and comfortable at the villa and in traveling around SXM. We had a van and a jeep and agree that 4 wheel drive is the way to go to be on the safe side and to feel comfortable. We had no problems with the road up to the villa but we are rednecks lol. We want to Thank Jim for sharing this beautiful place with us!!!! THANKS JIM.

La Grande Vigie is a villa that will keep you saying WOW at every turn! We were a family of 10 adults(couples and singles) and with the six bedrooms everyone was able to have their own room as well as their own bathroom. Our expectations were high as per the pictures on the website and we were not disappointed. The villa itself is fully equipped with anything you could need for cooking and eating. We spent many nights cooking together and our evenings playing cards and enjoying the breathtaking views. We never got tired of looking at the view from the pool deck! The master suite is HUGE!! It is the only room on the second floor and has it's own private balcony. The main level boasts a terrific room for hanging out together (we had many a card game in the "round room") Dining table had seating for all of us plus you could have brought more chairs if you had more people. Two other bedrooms are accessed from outside from the veranda that goes around the pool and their is a convenient washroom to use when out by the pool. There is a very large bedroom in the lower level (it's a walkout) with tons of sleeping options (especially for a little family with children) The two bedroom guesthouse was incredible as well. Virtually two separate units with mini kitchens and lounge area. Everything has it's own key to lock up so never a worry. Actually we felt extremely safe while we were there. It does look remote in the pictures but that is because it is surrounded by lush gardens. And Veronica, the housekeeper, was AMAZING!!!! She was so helpful in so many ways. She helped us with shopping, getting gas, places to eat and even cooked a fabulous local dinner for us!! Get her to help you!! The owners were terrific and gave us many helpful tips and ideas too even before we arrived. Thanks Jim!!! Air, wifi, electricity were no issues and we had some pretty strong winds when we were there.

Now, just a couple notes. Get a four wheel drive vehicle if you are driving. It is EXTREMELY steep and very winding switchback type assent to the villa. We were pros by the end of the week but it is a little intimidating when you arrive. Our flight was delayed and Cyril, the property manager couldn't meet us at the bottom of the hill so we had to find our way on our own and it wasn't easy (not much in road signs) Insist that no matter what he be there to escort you. Other than that, don't hesitate, the island and the people are fabulous and the villa is the icing on the cake!!
