Water Tower & Private Hot Tub - Just Five Minutes To Historic Mendocino Village

Bedrooms 1
Space 450 sq ft
Property type tower

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2 – Non-Smoking

Escape to this private, peaceful, 550 square feet water tower suite nestled amongst the redwoods. This is the perfect place for a romantic get-away or some downtime. Sleep under the overhead and inspired sunflower, lit by the rays of the morning sun. Best of all, you'll be surrounded by plenty of tall trees and ocean breezes, with a location 2.75 miles east of the village of Mendocino.

The private (exclusive) bathroom has a roomy shower, indoor hot tub, beautiful stone counters, custom cabinets built by a local fine woodworker and radiant floor heating. The bedroom has the feel of a tree house, with a king sized comfy bed, good reading lights, 50" flat screen tv, with Apple TV. Wake up to the sound of birds in the trees and sunlight filtering through the redwoods.

On chilly mornings, warm up in the private (exclusive) hot tub with a cup of coffee before heading out for the day. There is a downstairs entry room with all that you need to make that perfect cup of morning coffee, or tea, plus a small fridge for wine or leftovers (but, sorry, no cooking). The outdoor deck is set in a lovely Asian style garden, a perfect place to enjoy the outdoors.

The Water Tower makes for an ideal home base for exploring the fabulous Mendocino Coast. You will undoubtedly want to explore the historic, quaint and quirky coastal village and enjoy the many art galleries, restaurants, and shops. Take a walk on the Mendocino Headlands State Park and the majestic coastal bluffs of the Pacific Ocean. When you are done, wander back into town for a hot chocolate or glass of wine at the historic Mendocino Hotel.

The area is known for ocean kayaking hiking, and phenomenal mountain biking opportunities such as the beautiful Big River trail. You're also close to Russian Gulch State Park and the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse recreational areas for further adventures.

At the end of a day of adventuring along the Mendocino Coast, relax and enjoy your private hot tub in the luxurious bathroom, while sipping a glass of wine from one of the many wonderful local wineries.

Winter is a great time to visit the Mendocino area and experience the winter storms and watch the grey whales migrate from Alaska to Mexico.

Guest space is in a converted water tower, and is separate from the historic lumber bunkhouse which has been converted into owner's current residence. Many acres of fir and redwood forest just outside the doors.

This space is not appropriate for children, or people who smoke, or pets, or guests who need to heat/cook food.

A personal vehicle is totally necessary in this area. No public transportation worthy of the name!

About Hope & Rennie Innis

We are recently retired and love the idea of having this wonderful room to share with people.

Rennie was a cabinet maker, a teacher, and then a software developer, and Hope was a bookstore owner, and then a property manager.

We love to travel, especially when warm water is involved! Although we have traveled many places, it is always a pleasure to arrive back home.

Hope & Rennie Innis purchased this tower in 1989

Why Hope & Rennie Innis chose Mendocino

Wonderful locals. Quirky and historic community.

What makes this tower unique

Located next to the Jackson State Forest, we are surrounded by Nature. We love the quiet, and that we get 30 sunny days more than the folks in the nearby village of Mendocino. The village is just a 5 minute drive away.

beautiful, peaceful place!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying in the Water Tower. The light filtering through the skylight and canopy is so lovely, as are the garden and forest outside; there's even a short walking trail through the redwoods on the 3-acre property.

You enter through a hallway on the side of Hope and Rennie's home. The hall has a door to the downstairs room of the tower, a large and beautifully outfitted bathroom featuring a hot tub and a large walk-in shower, and another set of doors leading to both the private garden and the 12 steps leading up to the bedroom (the upper level of the tower). There is a toilet in the corner of the bedroom, which is handy if you don't want to go down the stairs to answer nature's call at night; it has a small copper sink on the tank.

The place is a couple miles from town, so you won't be walking down most likely, but it is very quiet and peaceful up there. We enjoyed our interactions with Hope and Rennie; they were very helpful and obviously cared that we had everything we needed during our stay.

(The king size memory foam bed is on the soft side, so be forewarned if that is a problem for you. For most people it's probably just luxuriously soft.)

Excellent, Cozy, Quiet, Immaculate

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed our weekend here. Everything is super clean, organized, and beautifully decorated. So lovely to wake up among the redwoods and look up at the cheerful bouquet of sunflowers in the skylight! Gracious and knowledgeable hosts have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and worry free. The village and beaches/hikes are just a short drive away. We would not hesitate to stay again. Thanks for a lovely Mendocino weekend!

Peaceful getaway in the woods

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely spot to experience rest and privacy in a quiet, woodsy setting. It is convenient to town but in its own world. We enjoyed the views, hot tub, and hospitality. Be aware that the bedroom is up an external stairway--not an issue for us, but could be tricky in poor weather or if you have mobility issues.

I stayed in this beautiful Water Tower property while visiting Mendocino, it was such a treat! I love staying in places that have some character and this beautiful property didn't disappoint. It is such a beautiful oasis to rejuvenate the soul, surrounded by red wood trees, sunshine and a private hot tub to soak the body after busy days of exploring the coast. Rennie and Hope were very welcoming and where available if needed, they both introduced themselves and were there to say goodbye. I would love to stay again and look forward to on my next visit. - Dixie from Calgary, Canada
