About Joe

Rice Lake resident since 1982, now retired, you will have your privacy but I live only one mile away if you need any assistance. Free guide assistance, experienced 30 years "Joe's Monster Guide and Garage".

Joe purchased this lodge in 2014

Why Joe chose Minnesota

I love RICE LAKE! After living on Rice Lake for 35 years, this house came up for sale in 2015. It is located across the lake from my farm. I spent a year remodeling it into a Vacation Lodge for family and relatives, perfect for private lake getaways! It has 475 ft of lake frontage. I welcome clean responsible guests when not reserved by my family and relatives. It is very special and on a secluded deep water bay for perfect place to fish or relax in quiet comfort. I rent it out for retirement income in both the winter and summer.

What makes this lodge unique

Located between the Chippewa National Forest and the George Washington State Forest, lots of hiking fishing and hunting areas, use my 14' boat, paddle-boat, and canoe to fish or explore 800+ acre Rice Lake. There are 4 bikes in the garage for bicycling to Tioga Beach. Outdoor game area, fire pit, BBQ and hammock.

Great spot for anglers

  • 5 of 5

Booked the Rice Lake Lodge for a long weekend of ice fishing. The location on Rice Lake is fantastic and Joe allowed us to take the snowmobile from the house to the lake - which was perfect. Fishing was good on Rice for Pike and on other area lakes for Walleye and Perch. Grand Rapids is an easy drive and has good dining and all the supplies you might have forgotten for the house or for fishing.

Joe met us at the house and gave us the low-down on everything. The house is well stocked and has a separate fish cleaning station, which is fantastic. Beds were comfortable as was the futon. No cable, but Wi-Fi and a smart TV if you need it.

I would definitely recommend Rice Lake Lodge to anyone looking for a get-away in the Grand Rapids, especially if you are looking to fish.

Peaceful retreat with all the amenities of home

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I needed a weekend away and this was the perfect place. I rented a boat from the owner, Joe, and fished everyday while my wife reclined with the windows open reading her books. Very clean and full of amenities. Great fishing with a ton of large mouth bass. Cannot wait to go back. We visited in the fall but are planning a winter getaway as well. Great flat screen tv with high speed internet for the entertainment junkies in the family(me). Very nice owner, Joe, who lives close by if you need anything but definitely gives privacy. A wonderful place!

Great place, helpful host

  • 5 of 5

The property was very clean, well stocked with anything you might need (or have forgotten), and very comfortable. It was perfect for our ice fishing weekend. Had a very cozy feeling. Joe was very helpful making sure we were all setup upon check in. Flexible check-in time. No complaints at all! Exactly like you'd want and expect in a quality rental. Great little trip up north.

Comfort and Beauty

  • 5 of 5

What a great stay. The house was well equipped with anything you would need. The beds were extra comfortable. The owner went out of his way to make sure all of our needs were taken care of. The house was right on the lake for easy access to fishing. Thanks for a great stay.

Rice Lake getaway

  • 5 of 5

Quaint, very clean, very livable, comfortable, quiet on the lake cabin get a away. Well furnished with everything one would reasonably need in the kitchen. Joe (landlord) met us as planned with good orientation to the property and answered our questions. I would definately recommend this property to friends and relatives!

Awesome getaway

  • 5 of 5

Nice amenities, great isolated bay with great Bass fishing, close enough to Cohasset and Grand Rapids for supplies and dining and far enough away for some quiet. Very clean and well thought out lodging. Nice, manageable row boat and canoe, both accepting a small outboard if you like, otherwise the bay is the right size for rowing/paddling.
