Great house close to town!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay here! The house and particularly the wood stove were a welcome sight after an especially rainy hike back down from Hidden Lake. The house is close to the trailhead (around 10-15 minutes away). It's also minutes from the Marblemount Cafe (which was delicious) and the rest of the restaurants/the ranger station in Marblemount. Mary was very accommodating and responsive. She even let us park one of our cars in the driveway a day earlier than our booking.

Comfortable, cozy, clean and the perfect basecamp for exploring North Cascades

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 2 nights in September, and we loved our stay. The location is great. It feels quiet and secluded, but is still close to restaurants and gas station and only a few minutes' drive into the park. The setting on the river is beautiful. Sitting outside, looking up at the mountains and watching the salmon in the river was relaxing. The house was super clean and had everything we needed. We also appreciated the personal touches, like fresh flowers on the table and a selection of toiletries on the bathroom counter in case we needed anything. There doesn't seem to be a lot of lodging options in the area, so finding something this nice was wonderful. If we ever get to travel to the area again, we would not hesitate at all to stay here again.

Wonderful multi-generational family getaway

  • 5 of 5

I was excited to stay at Cascade River house and it went above and beyond my expectations. I have never stayed at such a well-stocked vacation all rental. I feel like my best friends let me stay at their home. We travelled from Texas with my in-laws, aged 65 and 82, who both use canes or walkers. They navigated the house and back yard wonderfully. We also had my 10 yr old and 5 yr old boys and the kids bedroom was perfect for them. My 5 yr old loved the toys available and 10 yr old wouldn't leave the riverbank due to the crystal clear water and all of the fish swimming by. The beds were comfortable. The heater worked great. Great appliances in the kitchen. Lovely rain shower head in the 1 bathroom.

My only regret is that we didn't book more time here. We are already planning a return trip to North Cascade National Park and wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. Thanks Mary for sharing your lovely home and your warm hospitality!

R&R on the river

  • 4 of 5

Nice spot on the river, great location close to the best of N.Cascades trails. All the basics, washer/dryer and well stocked kitchen. No luxury digs here, but enjoy sitting by the river and make sure to look for the salmon fighting their way back up to spawn

Kitchen needs updating and cleaning. Broken laundry dryer. Overpriced.

  • 1 of 5

The housekeeper visited us after our arrival and told us that dryer works only on "High Temperature" setting, which she uses for towels and linen. Our clothes cannot be dried at high temperature so it was of no use for us. The dryer should be repaired or replaced.

The smell coming out of the kitchen sink (mildew?) was terrible. Cabinets were almost falling apart. It was VERY unpleasant to be in the kitchen.

By the cottage entry, the pots with flowers that had dried out a long time ago did not look inviting.

Overall, lack of feeling of cleanliness. Actually, it was the opposite.

In the cabin instruction sent by the owners, there was a suggestion that we should tip the housekeeper...

Nice location by the river. Nice vegetable patch.

Owner's Response: A very oblivious and hurtful review. We would have been more than accommodating had we have known your concerns. The note on the dryer said 'Repair can't be here until Monday. The dryer works fine with medium heat even though the dial has to be on high' if the dryer only heated on 'high' it probably wouldn't have needed the new heating element. The house is very remote, not easy to get instant repair. We redid the entire kitchen last winter, every appliance in the kitchen is new with the exception of the fridge. Please remember this is one of the hottest summers on record with a water ban lasting nearly 3 months. We would love from everything to be green and luscious as well. We are very kind and thoughtful people, we appreciate our guests and assume the same in return. My father was a ranger in the North Cascades for many, many years. We rent this home in hopes to keep it for the children in our family and hopefully their families someday. Please, in the future if you choose to rent through private families have the decency to be upfront and contact them directly; don't wait until the very last second to leave a review that they can't rebuttal and make your stay more accommodating.
