Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We returned from our vacation three days ago and I am missing our home away from home. The "cabin" in Kanab was perfectly located for day trips we made. It was an active vacation of hiking in the areas National Parks. We visited Bryce Canyon for a gorgeous sunrise on our first day as it was the furthest away. Our other travels took us to Zion, Lake Powell that included Horsehoe Bend and Antelope Canyon, Buckskin Glutch, and the Best Friends animal sanctuary right in Kanab. We took advantage of the Bureau of Land Management and Kanab information center to receive valuable updates on the areas hiking conditions. Some areas require a permit and it is important to plan those before you leave home.

I say "cabin" because it is not what I picture with that word. The photos on the website are spot on. We were a group of six adults and had plenty of room. Because we came home exhausted each day, we never took advantage of the enormous rec room on the lower level! Having a centrally located home made it easy to pack up sandwiches and snacks for the day. We also enjoyed the fabulous kitchen for cooking our breakfast and dinner using the grill. Only thing missing were ice trays and a wine bottle opener. We managed, and even left some new ice trays for the next visitors.

And a big thank you to Ransom and Nyla for being response prior to our departure when I sent numerous Emails for information about our stay.

Wonderful cabin for large groups

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this cabin in Kanab, Utah with our extended family including 6 adults and 6 kids. The space was perfect for this large group with the 3 bedrooms and great bunkhouse for the kids. The outdoor deck and firepit were great and afforded wonderful views of sunrise and sunset. Also, the house was very well stocked with utensils, dishware, pots/pans, movies, games, and even an air hockey table, which the kids loved. The location is great as a central location between Zion, Lake Powell, and many great things in Kanab. Some suggestions for families if you there that may be less obvious that we loved: Hike up to the caves just north of Best Friends Sanctuary, try sand sledding at Coral Pink Sand Dunes (it takes a little practice to figure it out), check out Lone Rock beach in Lake Powell, and the South Antelope Canyons were amazing (though a little busy and pricy, it was spring break that week). There are tons of other options as well, but these were some of our families favorites. I could go on, but I think this is a great place to stay for larger groups looking for a launching pad for the amazing outdoor adventures of south-eastern Utah.

Property was really amazing. Not too far from town. Really nice lot!

  • 5 of 5

We pulled in about dark and found the property to be clean and ready. The parking was adequate as we had 4 trucks and UTV trailers. The house has great space. Living room had plenty of room and doors exiting to the outside which was a nice touch. The master is quite large and the bathrooms were beautiful. Our kids absolutely LOVED the bunkhouse. They were so excited to sleep there and really had a lot of fun in the basement. This house is built for entertaining. The wrap-around deck is a huge plus and we had a nice view of the sunrise in the morning. The kitchen is very usable and the table is large for seating up to 9. Wasn't a huge fan of the bar stools in the kitchen as they look good but are uncomfortable to sit on.

I believe this is a new property so I'll make one suggestion. More gravel. The 3 days we stayed there we saw heavy rain for 2 of them. The parking area (specifically by the garage) had no gravel and subsequently had a very messy mud problem leaving as we pulled the trailer out. I think we did a great job of keeping that out of the house but did feel bad as it created some small ruts in the mud.

Ransom and Nyla, beautiful place! Hopefully you found the house very clean for our group size and would welcome us back. Our whole group loved the house and would absolutely rent from you again! Thank You again! Cheers!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind words and for leaving the cabin very clean! It is gratifying to hear that our guests have a good time even when encountering heavy rain. The garage is under construction and we have not finished putting the gravel in, but it should be done in the spring. Hope to have you back again someday! Happy Trails!

Came for the Thanksgiving holiday, and were so thankful for the beautiful accommodations. The place is warm and homey, with many loving touches, including thoughtful décor. The view, sunrises, and sunsets are spectacular! The owners were friendly, attentive, and helpful. There are so many things to do nearby that we didn't have a chance to use all the fun features of the "cabin" (or "Red Rock Mansion", as we came to call it). We hiked a hidden slot canyon, visited Coral Pink Sands State Park, hiked to ancient pictographs, and drove Cottonwood Canyon scenic backroad to Bryce (which includes amazing geology, hiking, Kodachrome Basin, and Grosvenor Arch; about a 10-12 hour trip). Wait! If I tell you how fabulous it really was, it might get too crowded for us to go back, which we certainly plan to do. OK, nevermind!!

Very clean, up kept, fun atmosphere and very spacious.

  • 5 of 5

We loved spending our time here for our small christmass break. Kanab got about 5 inches of snow durig our stay so the wood burning fire place was very nice. The owners out up a tree and decorated each room for the christmass holliday. we loved the bunk room. Each bed has a its own night light and had electrical outlet. The owners added some very fun festive christmass light in the room. The kids loved it as well. a nice bed can be found in every bedroom and the common area was very spacious for our 7 family get togehter. Plenty of parking out front and the place is a breaze to find. (Even during the middle of the night snow storm). As explained in the rental agreement propane is not provided for the gas grill outside but there is a amerigas propane sales area down the 89 headed towrds town that filled the tank for 13 bucks. We wish we were here during the summer so we could have taken advantage of the many many outdoor hiking and tourisim places. We have this place in front of our minds when we do come back to kanab!

Great family house

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay for 5 nights, plenty of space for our family of 7 adults from Australia. We enjoyed our first few nights around the fire , whilst enjoying the Christmas decorations. We cooked each night which we enjoy doing as family, with plenty of cooking amenities and shopping for our supplies at Honey's Market, which we thoroughly loved the truck out the front with Santa.

We visited Horseshoe Bend, Glen Canyon, Lower Antelope and Zion, which we enjoyed some great walks. Kanab is a lovely friendly town, who enjoyed seeing some Aussies.

The house is beautifully decorated, with a wonderful outlook of the mountains.

Only feedback would be a kettle, as we enjoy a tea, but we survived with boiling water in a saucepan.

Thanks for the stay, certainly has been a memorable part of our holiday.
