Clean, cozy, amazing views, great location, stocked kitchen, you name it! (enough said, right??)
Perfect size for 4 adults to stay comfortably. Fully stocked kitchen and charcoal grill made dinners on our nights-in very convenient. Great views of the ocean from the deck, beautiful sunrises, and lots of dolphins! Beach access just off the yard makes taking your things (chairs, umbrellas, coolers, bags, etc.) to spend a day on the beach seem like much less of a chore! Just a short stroll away from the small, quiet town of Duck; which means you are close to shopping, restaurants, sweets, amazing sunsets on the sound and so, so much more.
The hospitality shown by Bud and Janice is like no other. My family, friends, and I have visited Outer Banks' islands for decades now, and I have never felt so welcomed by a homeowner or rental agency. Janice was willing to help with anything we needed from finding the home, to recommendations of activities, restaurants, etc. The welcome package was very helpful for our first night's stay as well.
I highly recommend this home to all visitors looking for a clean, quiet, convenient home. Perfect for first time visitors to OBX, or repeat visitors just looking for something new. You won't be disappointed!
Bud & Janice:
Thanks for opening your wonderful home up to us, and thanks for the hospitality. Hope to visit again soon!
This place under promised and over delivered! Janice was so wonderful, she even called me weeks in advance to let me know about the construction going on next door, just in case we wanted to stay elsewhere. Her consideration and kindness was enough of a reason to stay at Sugar Shack. If I ever head back out to OBX, I will be sure to stay here again! Thank you for making my trip with my Mom so perfect :)
A sweet week at the Sugar Shack!
What a wonderful week we had! Bud and Janice are fantastic owners who made us feel welcome from the very first communication about the rental, right up to the fresh flowers and welcome bag when we arrived.
The condo is easy to find (GPS works great, which can be an issue sometimes), and located in a very quiet section of Duck, with the private beach just steps away up an adjacent boardwalk. We didn't find a ton of shells, but the beach is nice and very clean.
All amenities you could want are here, including strong wifi, comfortable 'hanging out' furniture inside and on the decks, and a great kitchen with all the utensils, dishes and small appliances you could want. Our sunrises were picture perfect from the beach-side bedroom and balcony (thanks, Bud - promise kept!), and we had regular dolphin and pelican appearances too.
Duck is a cute town with a great sound-side boardwalk (sunsets!), tons of little shops and a variety of restaurants, so you don't have to head south to the more heavily commercial parts of the OBX if you don't want to. Janice was happy to give us recommendations, not just for Duck but others for when we were out and about.
It's an easy trip up to Corolla for the Currituck Lighthouse, wild horse tours, and Whalehead, and equally easy to head down to Kitty Hawk, Nags Head, Hatteras, the Ocracoke ferry (Bodie, Hatteras and Ocracoke lighthouses) and other points of interest.
My husband is not big on staying at the same place twice, but he agreed that if our travels bring us back to the Outer Banks, we'd break our rule and happily stay at the Sugar Shack again!
What a wonderful review and thanks so much! Please tell your husband we'd be honored if he wanted to return.
Always a joy to come here!
Wonderful people, wonderful home, wonderful break from reality!!!!
A gem on the ocean, great location, walk to fine food, shopping, spa and more!
Sorry to leave and cannot wait to return. The owners are thoughtful with their accommodations, friendly and helpful.
Counting the days for your return!
Great place for a holiday getaway
We enjoyed the property very much. Very clean and well maintained and also convenient to shops and restaurants and easy access to the beach and other OBX activities.
It's always peaceful here during the holiday season.
** The Immediate area** Sugar Shack is just feet to the beach and short stroll to town. Park your car when you arrive and forget about it until you leave.
There are too many activities to list, and many are unique to the Duck area!
Many describe Duck...as being the best town on the Outer Banks! Quaint, charming, and yet has all high-end amenities. Biker/pedestrian-friendly throughout. Stroll to some of the best restaurants, spas, shops, and sights around.
*Local information*Even if you've been to the OBX before, there are many attractions that might surprise you! :)
- The NEW 80-acre water park includes multiple water slide complexes, massive wave pool, adventure lagoon and lazy river, and a FlowRider surf ride attraction. Over two acres will be dedicated to a state-of-the-art children’s adventure area with a double entry wave pool and other innovative, interactive play areas and structures. Fifty private, wait-serviced cabanas, diverse food and beverage options, and retail venues are some of the many amenities to be offered.
This NEW addition to the OBX experience will be truly an UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE!
- Speaking of UNFORGETTABLE- Take a KAYAK TOUR of the alligator river (yes, there are alligators in N.C.) and maybe you'll get to hear one of the critically endangered RED WOLVES unique only to eastern N.C.
For the birders, visit the Audubon Pine island bird sanctuary. The Sanctuary is one of the last pieces of untouched property on the northeastern portion of the Outer Banks, preserving 2,600 acres of marsh, upland maritime forest and sandy beaches, as well as the historical beauty of the Outer Banks. The Sanctuary remains largely free from development, so birds and wildlife can continue to have a safe place to thrive free from human disturbance, and you can HIKE , PICNIC , go HANG-GLIDING (all levels, or tandem) , and LEARN at the top-notch visitors' center.
- Enjoy every WATERSPORT you can imagine, as a learner or expert, including SURFING , KAYAKING , PADDLE BOARDING , JET SKIING , TUBING , PARASAILING , SAILING , CATAMARAN(ing?), etc.
- Go on a DOLPHIN-WATCHING TOUR (98% success) or WHALE-WATCHING TOUR.
- Take a SHIPWRECK DIVING TOUR
- Go CRABBING , SHRIMPING, or FISHING...so many options: deep-sea, surf, pier, sound...
- And, of course, GOLF! - Imagine golfing in a Southern Pine forest facing the Currituck Sound. Numerous DRIVING RANGES, and MINIATURE GOLF COURSES.
