Worked out great for our family!

  • 5 of 5

Here are a number of things we'd like to list about our recent stay at the Howland farm…

Julia was prompt and excellent in her communication with us, from the start to the day we arrived.

John, who is the family home caretaker, and lives on site, was standing waiting for us in the driveway when we pulled in. He gave us a very nice tour of the home. He was willing and ready to meet any needs we had. And we very much appreciated him asking at the end of our stay if there was anything they could do to help make future stays for folks better. We mentioned a very small item, and he quickly noted it and said it would be done…

The house was more than roomy enough for five adults from our family who stayed there.

The shared kitchen was expansive and had everything needed for cooking and baking. We saved a lot of money by eating breakfast and dinner at the house, only having to eat lunch out, while we visited nearby cities.

We enjoyed hiking up the hill behind the house to an old log cabin that had been built by the family decades ago. It is well worth the hike! It's a old road that is easy to follow but also gives you a nice workout in a beautiful setting.

The beds were very comfortable, including having heating blankets for a couple of nights where it got a bit cool.

The back porch is screened in and provides a great place to relax with really nice furniture.

We would recommend this rental, especially to families who want room to visit but also want some room for their own privacy.

It's also very safe and secure for those who may have that concern.

The location is about 35 mins from Ithaca and 45 or so from Cortland. Elmira is about 45 or less mins. The house is easy to find, even though my Maps program showed it being down the road a ways. Julia was smart and sent written directions that were very specific.

We had a great family vacation and this place added muchly to our enjoyment!

Pleasant stay!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and two sons enjoyed our stay at the farmhouse. The house was immaculate, well maintained with every comfort of home. We enjoyed our conversations of the history of the area with John, the caretaker who grew up in the house. We particularly enjoyed the hike to the cabin which seemed like a walk back into time. The property is centrally located for trips to Ithaca and the surrounding finger lakes region. We particularly liked antiqueing the many shops within a 50 mile radius. Local auctions in Candor and Owego also kept us busy. I would recommend the property for an extended stay.

Farm Country as it should be, open fields, fresh air, plenty of space

  • 5 of 5

Very nice, well kept farm. Would have been great if we would have been able to stay 2 nights as originally planned, but schedule conflicts happen. Getting to enjoy the farm 1 night was a nice sample so we know what to expect next time we come through the Triple Cities.

Great for Graduation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for three nights on the occasion of my daughter's graduation from Binghamton University. It was wonderful to have this quiet, slow-paced rental to come back to after the hustle and bustle of commencement activities. The farmhouse has been in the Howland family for decades, and it is well and lovingly maintained. The house and grounds are immaculate. Host John is a walking encyclopedia and we enjoyed hearing about the geology, history, and economy of the area. He even provided a fire pit and laid the fire for us one evening; we so enjoyed sitting around the fire, chatting and singing after a long day. It was the perfect way to relax! And we left with fresh rhubarb grown right on the grounds. Thank you for your lovely home and generous hospitality.
