John is the host and lives in an apartment off the shared kitchen where he is available to answer questions, provide farm tours and help in any other way that would enhance your stay.
The farm is a wonderful place to stay. John does everything in his power to make sure all of your needs are met. Very relaxing and comfortable. We have stayed there twice and would most certainly return.
We arrived late, John was still up and waiting for us. It was nice to go outside at 2am and see the Milky Way. I haven't been able to see that where I live in years with all of the light pollution. The screened in porch was a pleasure to use, a warm breeze and all of the sounds of the wildlife will quickly get you relaxed, we even had a visitor of our own from Brooklyn, who found himself having a hard time keeping his eyes open. He was surprised at how peaceful and quite it was there. Visiting he cabin on the mountain top was the highlight of the day we left. We broke the top of the hill, and two very large bucks turned and ran away, it was a terrific sight. The house is a throwback to the farming days, while the cabin steps even further back. So relaxing and peaceful. If we ever have a chance to stay again, we would love to have John host us again.
Thank you for your hospitality and for sharing not only your family home, but also the stories that go with it. We truly enjoyed ourselves. The weekend was far too short.
The Howland farm is a gorgeous, scenic, relaxing getaway. The farm is peaceful and serene, with lots of land to explore, and at night, you can see the stars. The owners are very communicative and accommodating and have struck the perfect balance of being accessible without being intrusive. We had a large group, and Julia, John, and the rest of the Howland family were very willing to work with us and our specific requests/needs. Amazing location, and great property owners to work with.
My family of 7 had a wonderful 5-night stay in the Butterfly Suite at Howland Family Farm. Our accommodations were very comfortable, clean, spacious and well-stocked with anything we might have needed. The Farm Manager, John, was incredibly welcoming and helpful and we enjoyed many engaging conversations about the farms history with him. The large, well equipped kitchen helped our large family stay on budget as we were able to make most of our meals "at home". We did, however, have an excellent meal out at The Cellar in the nearby town of Owego. And the Country Wagon Produce market, in the nearby town of Maine, has an absolutely amazing bakery (pies, cookies, breads, donuts, etc.). My family had a great time fishing the stream on the property and nearby on the Susquehanna river. And the beautiful hike (or drive) to the cabin on the property is definitely worth the effort...it's a magical place and we were glad we made the hike up to it. John was always available if we needed anything and quickly took care of those needs. We will most definitely be returning for future stays and will recommend to family and friends.
Four generations of my family stayed at the farm house (ranging from age 2 to 70), and it was a delightful experience for us all. The main house was clean and spacious, and had everything we needed for the stay including kitchen ware, food seasonings, bedding/towels, and hygiene products. The location was easy to find and very safe. It was an experience that we will always treasure; Customer service was awesome and I would recommend this stay to friends and family; Grocery and gas stores were close, and we had a peaceful stay
The farm site is fifteen minutes from charming downtown Owego, and thirty minutes from Binghamton or Ithaca, NY. Many families enjoy the easy access to area colleges and universities while others prefer to visit historic Owego or the Finger Lakes many attractions.
