About Ripley Hathaway

I have resided in this area for almost 50 years. The views of the Catskills, the wildlife ( you will never forget your first sighting of a bald eagle!) Historic homes to visit and the many farms make this part of the Hudson Valley a year round place to be. Did I mention restaurants and ski areas too? Escape the city and recharge with us.

Ripley Hathaway purchased this cabin in 1992

Why Ripley Hathaway chose Germantown

This home is part of an original apple and pear farm and used to overlook many apple trees. It is not visible from any road and is extremely private. It is 25 minutes north of OMEGA ( we have availability for the John of God weekend) and within minutes of many wedding venues.

What makes this cabin unique

This home is located on a sixty acre parcel of land from which you can take paths through old orchards to Woods Road. From your deck you can see deer and wild turkeys. The Cheviot town dock , a 3 minute drive a way is where you can launch kayaks or have dinner along the Hudson river- the town provides picnic tables and grills for free! Its a great place to watch for our bald eagles, great blue herons and other wildlife. We are a birder's delight.

Best place I have ever lived

  • 5 of 5

I rented this farmhouse from October 2015-May 2016. Ripley was a consistently helpful and kind landlord, and the grounds have been managed expertly for more than 20 years by her associate Jack. "Drop Dead Catskill Views" barely does the place justice - I would say "Jumping for Life Catskill Views!" because I regularly danced around the yard in joy and appreciation of this gorgeous property. Peaceful, clean, and well-run, I had one of the best years of my life staying there. It has tons of natural light, is completely private, modestly furnished with lots of space to do yoga or dance in the living room. The open kitchen was a highlight. I meditated by the pond, and laid in the grass to watch the stars at night. It stayed warm in the winter and fairly cool in the summer. Honestly, I will remember living there forever. You would be a lucky soul to enjoy it! Pro tip: go to nearby Otto's for delicious coffee and breakfast sandwiches!

We are located in the heart of the Hudson Valley. When you are not enjoying the sunsets the artist Frederick Church made famous from your covered porch. You can visit his home Olana and enjoy a take in a 40 mile view of the valley. There are many pick your own orchards for Apples, Peaches and Pears The Dutchess County Fair and the Columbia County Fair are coming up and this is the perfect base. South of us are the homes of the Livingstons and Vanderbilts along with President Franklin Roosevelt's home that are open to the public. Attending a wedding? Have last minute needs. We can help.
