50 miles from midtown Manhattan, accessible by train, and yet you'll feel like you've entered another world.
Arrive at the property via Old Albany Post Road, one of our country's oldest remaining pre-Colonial, dirt roads. Cars are few, but walkers and bicyclists can be counted upon for a friendly wave as you pass old stone walls, small streams, and pastoral fields en route to your get-away.
Our 3.5 acre property includes a saline pool and hot-tub with waterfall for exercise, relaxation, or both. Additional perks include a home movie screen, 2-person jacuzzi tub, Steinway grand piano, board games, and a fully-equipped kitchen. Have kids? You might watch your child(ren) play on the small swings and slide, or explore the neighboring woods. Inside, enjoy a book, quiet, or the company of family and friends in our all-weather sun room or in front of either of two fireplaces.
Nearby attractions include: Cold Spring restaurants/antiquing/kayaking/outdoor films; hiking on the Appalachian Trail, Breakneck Ridge, and numerous other trails; Boscobel farmers' market (and summer Shakespeare festival); and Fahnestock cross-country skiing. Day trip (or half-day) outings might include Storm King, Hyde Park, West Point, Mohonk Mountain House, rock-climbing The Gunks, or the Culinary Institute of America.
Whether lounging in your vacation home or exploring the region, we trust you will love your getaway as deeply as we do.
John and Marisa have coveted the Garrison / Cold Spring region for well over a decade, and are delighted to call it our (part-time) home.
John and Marisa purchased this house in 2015
I shared the house with 7 friends that were attending a wedding nearby at The Garrison. The house is spacious, well appointed, and comfortable. The surroundings are pretty and you feel secluded and enveloped by nature. There are several bathrooms, so getting ready was a breeze. The highlight by far was the heated pool and hot tub, which can be set to continuously change colors! The kitchen also had plenty of appliances, so it was easy to cook meals. Overall we were very happy with the choice and would easily rent the house again.
We spent a week at the Garrison Getaway house, hosting a rotating cast of family and friends. It was the perfect venue for our vacation.
The house is located in a secluded, peaceful spot but is within easy reach of Cold Spring village, Boscobel, and plenty more. We visited Dia Beacon and Storm King Art Center while we were there.
The pool and hot tub and patio and sun room are all just perfect and very tastefully done. We swam every day and barbecued almost every night. The kitchen/great room accommodated our crowd in comfort and style. The dining table seats 10. If you play the piano, you will love the Steinway, which is in the music room, just off the kitchen. The media room features a very nice projector system and plenty of seating. We walked on Old Farm Lane and Old Albany Post Road and rarely encountered any cars. The woods are full of white tailed deer.
The owners are great. They left us a lovely welcome basket and were quick to respond to our questions about the house. We will certainly come back in the future!
Our group of 7 had an incredible stay at the Garrison Getaway—coming from the city, we couldn't believe how much space we had while staying here. We really appreciated the gift basket on arrival. In addition, the pool, the central AC, the grill, and the media room gave us so much to do that we hardly left.
Couldn't recommend this property enough—if 6 stars were an option, I'd be clicking that.
We had a wonderful stay at John and Marisa's home. We enjoyed driving down the dirt roads and being out in the woods. The house had everything we needed from cooking a dinner with friends and family to getting cozy in front of the huge fireplace. Thank you
