Very, very nice place for prime Salmon and Steelhead fishing, visiting the giant Redwoods and excellent hiking and adventuring. During Summer months the property is full of Peaches, Apples (several kinds), plums and a huge supply of blackberries

Exactly what we were looking for.

Duffy Court was a great house located in town yet totally secluded. LOVED IT! It was perfect for our needs. Only cons were that the fridge leaks and no one has taken away the recycling in awhile so we couldn't get all of our stuff in there. Other than that, great. Would definitely stay again.

Owner's Response: Hi Max, Sorry the refrigerator leaked!! I have had a small problem with a clogged overflow in the freezer and had the cleaning crew check it before your stay and they said it was ok. I will have them actually come clear the valve. When you mentioned the recycling, was i the back trash cans or trash in the pump house? Thanks again for your stay at Duffy Court and the solid review. Best Regards, Bob

Peaceful time in Gasquet

  • 4 of 5

There were 5 in the party and the stay was easy. The check-in was smooth, everybody's needs were met and it was a comfortable house in a beautiful area. We'll use it again in the future & would certainly recommend to others.

This house was very comfortable and clean. It's easy to locate and as described.

  • 5 of 5

No problems with this place but it appears that it is soneones home and they just take their clothes and live elsewhere. Pictures and personal things everywhere. It didn't bother us, and having so many kitchen supplies to use was very useful. Spices! Sandwich bags! Oil! Salt and pepper! Things that make a stay more enjoyable.

It's private although you can hear traffic from the highway.

I'd use this property again.

Hidden gem

  • 4 of 5

Overall, our family of four has enjoyed our stay.

The house is situated in a prime location close to both Crescent City and Brookings, with amazing scenic drives to do either way.

The Ekorn is fantastic and grills very well. The kitchen is very well stocked and included everything we needed and then some. :)

The thing that made me take away a star was the beds. Both queen beds are not very comfortable and creek with every toss and turn. Honestly, I had more than once been concerned they may break on us. And mind you, no gymnastics was had during our stay.

Also, it would have been wonderful to have tv tables for an evening tea when we unwind from the day in the living room.

Other than that, however, the house was lovely. The Wi-Fi connection was solid, and the house is clean and welcoming.

Recommended! :)

Owner's Response: Response for guest Michal Circolone. Apologies for the squeaky bed, it's on my list of to do's to fix when I come up next week. The slats under the box springs are custom made (by me) and need wax paper/gasket material to prevent the creaking. Regarding mattress comfort, it's a brand new "firm" mattress and I know everyone has different comfort taste. Glad you gave a favorable review through and enjoyed Duffy Court. I would welcome you back anytime. Regards, Bob

Not as kid friendly as I'd hoped, but overall it was good.

  • 4 of 5

The property is in a lovely area. It is a cozy little private piece of land surrounded by tons of gorgeous outdoors. We will be back to explore more areas that we didn't have time for on this trip.

The property is clearly used by it's owners. There are family pictures and such around. It didn't bother me, but if that's not your thing it's worth noting. They also have quite a few breakable things at kid level. We were looking for a place to stay that had separate bedrooms so we didn't have to cram our family of 6 in a hotel room and we wouldn't have to go to bed quite as early as our little ones. So, it's not the kid friendliest, but the truth is we came to see the redwoods, so we weren't at the house a lot. It served it's purpose as being a place to sleep without disrupting anyone's sleep schedule too much.

The owners were very nice. They asked us to notify them when we arrived and I think when we left as well, and they had a couple emergency contact numbers if we needed something, but they basically left us to ourselves, which is nice.

It is also worth noting that it is a really small town. The internet informed me that there is a store up the road called Gasquet Grocery (if I remember correctly), but if you intend to cook at all in the kitchen (another draw of a vacation home over a hotel) you will want to bring groceries with you, or plan to drive up the road 15-20 minutes to shop in Crescent City. We were there everyday anyway, as that's essentially the gateway to the redwoods in that area.

Also, because it is a remote area, they ask you to strip the beds and start them washing before you check out since the cleaner has to come in from a distance. It doesn't bother me, but I didn't know about it until we booked the place and it's worth noting if you expected not to do any laundry while you are on vacation.

We did love that it was less expensive than staying in a place in Crescent City, and it's really not a long drive, and it's a pretty drive besides.

Pros: Kitchen, multiple bedrooms, budget friendly, pleasant property, proximity to LOTS of incredible outdoors areas,

Neutrals(maybe they bother you, maybe not): "lived in" by the owners, you have to start the laundry for your linens at the end of your stay.

Cons: Lots of breakables so not super kid friendly, lack of groceries in town,
