|Minimum Stay||3 - 30 nights|
Please contact the owner for details on length of stay. Full water views from nearly every room will take your breath away. Clean, contemporary and so peaceful 3/2 with two marble baths, all set in a private wooded bay-front location. Designed to be eco-friendly with power and hot water generated by the Florida sun (supplemented by the grid when the sun goes down), so you can feel good as you watch the nesting bald eagles, and leaping mullet. You can fish from the dock or sit and watch the porpoises, pelicans and skimmers. It's impossible to describe the beauty of sunrises to the east and sunsets to the west - each day brings new beauty. And you can arrange to be picked up at the end of the dock for fishing excursions or anchor your own boat since the dock ends at the mouth of the channel for the ultimate water access.
The unique House Beautiful design features an open core with bedroom wings to each side. Both master and guest suites have sliding glass doors that open to patios. In fact, the house has eight glass doors facing the water so you can live in climate-controlled comfort whilst enjoying the beauty of the outdoors.
Beautifully appointed with high-quality linens, Bluetooth speakers, Smart-TV and lovely landscaping.
It's a pleasant walk to the downtown area straight down a residential avenue. And a wood-burning fireplace gives terrific ambiance during winter months.
My parents built their retirement home in Apalachicola when they discovered "the forgotten coast" in the 1970s. When I assumed management of the house on Mom's behalf, I completely rebuilt the house (2010) taking it down to the studs inside and out. It is now a completely updated, solar-powered (on the grid), energy-efficient modern hideaway that helps support Mom's Alzheimer's care.
Faye Gibson on behalf of my mom who owns the property. purchased this house in 1974
This beautiful, quiet part of Florida has grown into a beautiful tourist destination combining history, fishing, and a sense of place. Sitting out on the dock surrounded by water, one experiences peace and serenity while stress and pain drop away. If one has the choice to be here, why would anyone choose anywhere else?
The house is simple but elegant. I learned from Mom's and Dad's time here and made the house the closest thing to living outdoors while having all the luxuries of home. The barrier between inside and out nearly disappears allowing you to experience the natural beauty at each time of day.
We agree with all the positive comments of the foregoing reviews. The property is a dream. Large windows and patios look out over a private lawn facing the salt marshes and the bay. Views from the pier are unforgettable. The interior is spacious, bright and comfortable. Bedrooms, adjoining bathrooms and kitchen furnish everything for a great holiday. The town is like stepping 60 years into the past but even better since a lot of tasteful renovation has taken place. The Maritime Museum is highly recommended for kayak rentals and sunset cruise, plus free cookies and friendly chatter from the folks at the reception. We are dreaming of our next stay.
The home is completely remodeled beautifully and very modern. The colors are soothing and the home is very inviting. The house is just on the outskirts of town and sits nestled in the woods with a large yard and an awesome view of the water. The kitchen has all the amenities and more that you will need for your stay. We appreciated the unexpected extras like paper towels, toilet paper, soap, dish detergent etc. The bathrooms in the home are beautiful and modern. We enjoyed several hours out on the pier. We did a little fishing (catfish/skate) and tried our hand at crabbing, but too late in the season. The pier is a little scary your first few walks out, narrow and limited hand railings, but with each day we were more comfortable spending time on it taking in the view. My only complaint was the lack of nice patio furniture. We like to eat outdoors, play cards, share cocktails, read etc. The only choices were a small two person bistro table and a very old concrete table with bench. Would have been so nice to have a table and chairs with umbrella as well as some chaise lounges or even the plastic stacking Adirondack chairs. This was my only reason for not rating a 5. The yard is beautiful and the abundance of birds and butterflies was awesome. Several species of butterflies were migrating so each day the flowers were covered in orange butterflies. We also biked to the town several times, very short ride, you could walk if you liked. The grocery stores are close by along with ice and anything else you might need. I would highly recommend Faye's home if you are visiting the area.
This is not your average 'beach house' and all the better for it. We found it to be a very comfortable house, close to the historic district of Apalachicola yet very quiet. The grounds are well kept with plants to attract butterflies and hummingbirds in season. Patios on both sides of the house allow you to find a shady spot to sit and watch the bay in the morning and afternoon and the many large windows give you great views even if you don't want to be outdoors. On a clear night the stars are spectacular. It's a great getaway and we're looking forward to our next visit!
Most all our time was spent on the inside of the property due to the extreme heat.
As soon as you walk through the front doors, you know this was the right decision!
Comfortable, well appointed bed rooms and nicely maintained bathrooms.
The view is incredible with 180 degree views of the water.
A beautiful place to entertain in which was large enough to facilitate a large social gathering.
Spacious, comfortable and relaxing!
Will definitely be back again!
The location was perfect. Within blocks from places of interest and a short drive to the beach. The house set up was open and gave a warm, relaxing and welcoming feeling. Could not have asked for a better atmosphere to relax in.
Planning getaway for family can seem overwhelming, but this time it wasn't. Everything we needed was provided, no over packing or spending.
We would recommend this hidden treasure to anyone. We will definitely be back in the near future. We have found our very own oasis. Thank you for a great time!
Trying to find and plan a nice getaway for our family is at times never easy. With the help of vrbo.com we were able to find just the right place.
The house was beautiful and more then we expected. The layout was open, warm and welcoming. Everything was there for our convenience. We didn't have to pack extra or worry about purchasing anything.
Places of interest were within walking distance, the beach was a short drive and best of all, just an open door to a dock to watch the sunset.
We would recommend to anyone this hidden treasure on the forgotten coast. Our stay turned into a very relaxing, back to the basics stay that was much needed. This home is our oasis. Thank you very much Mrs. Faye for the opportunity to enjoy your home.
From the dock, you catch spectacular sunrises and breathtaking sunsets. Porpoises frolic off the end of the dock and there is afavorite perch for a pair of bald eagles about 100 feet from the door. Lovely shopping, restaurants, bakery, chocolatier and a very good coffee shop are about a mile away in the downtown area.
Nearby are the beautiful white sand beaches and turquoise water of St. George Island, a barrier island, to the east and St Joe State Park to the west where you can sun and swim and beach comb.
Golf cart rentals are available downtown if you prefer to park your car and be eco-friendly during your stay.
