Far better than staying in a cookie-cutter condo or hotel! We only stayed here for two nights in late summer, but the house was perfect for the short stay. A fully stocked kitchen allowed us to cook in when we wished, and the house is situated a short drive from Windham where there are a couple coffee shops and restaurants. Typical August weather made it a little hot and humid but there are a couple fans provided which made all the difference. Thanks to Eleanor for a great stay!
I stayed here for about a week the end of Oct. into Nov. It was past prime autumn leaf season and I was surprised how much colorful foliage was still there. The house is comfortable and homey. I didn't do much cooking while there, but the kitchen is fully stocked with everything you'd need to cook up a meal. Appliances look brand new and there are plenty of glasses, dishes, pots, etc. It was unseasonably warm for the time of year and I wound up having coffee and breakfast on the big front porch a couple of times.
Bed was comfortable and bathroom had plenty of towels and lots of amenities. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and is nicely decorated. There are a lot of windows throughout the house so it was quite bright and cheery on sunny days. Would be a great location for ski season - Windham Mt. is only 3 or 4 miles away and Hunter Mt. is 8 or 9. Also should be nice in summer because it's on a large lot with open space and woods in the back and a creek across the street. Ideal for fall foliage time, too. The Catskills are just as beautiful as Vermont and New Hampshire but don't get the bumper to bumper foliage traffic.
There's no WiFi yet, but Nanna Gails's restaurant in Hensonville is a mile down the road and has WiFi - not to mention great breakfasts! Also, Higher Grounds coffee shop has WiFi and is about 3 miles away next to an 18-hole golf course (near Windham Mt).
I would definitely stay here again.
We stayed at this house during autumn leaf season and enjoyed the colorful country setting. It will be a great place for the upcoming ski-season when the mountains, woods & fields turn white with snow. There is a long driveway to the back porch entrance where there is plenty of covered storage for skis and boots. Entering through the kitchen you can see the livingroom in front and the diningroom to the side that leads to a playroom where there is more storage for coats and boots by an exit door that leads to the same back porch. Upstairs there is a loft area surrounded by 3 bedrooms with eclectic furnishings. The master bedroom, with king size bed, is bright and has plenty of drawer space plus a walk-in closet. The back bedroom, decorated in red, white & blue, has a single bed and a large serviceable desk. There is another desk in the playroom, so children or teens can bring schoolwork or draw pictures or play games when not skiing. The front bedroom, with another single bed, is brightly appointed so I could just picture someone sitting by the windows doing needlework overlooking the front lawn. Each bedroom has a place to put a suitcase while unpacking, so you don’t have to get on the floor. The kitchen has all new appliances and a cute table for two to enjoy your morning coffee while looking at birds & squirrels in the woods. The diningroom seats at least 4 but there are plenty of extra, stools and chairs to pull around the table for additional seating. It looks out on a meadow to the east. Besides the large comfortable couch in the livingroom, there is a cute reading nook. In fact, there are a number of places to curl up with a good book including the large front porch, in milder weather, as you listen to the babbling brook across the road. It is a great place to watch the sunset over the mountain or the stars on a clear night. Only a few neighbors’ houses can be seen in the distance so you can enjoy your privacy. Although the house is in a quiet area, it is on a county road between 2 villages. Maplecrest has an art center, a town park and entrances to several hiking trails. Hensonville has a grocery store, café, upscale restaurant and new pub. There are more in Windham & Hunter, closer to the ski areas. If some family members are not athletes, both towns have a surprising number of venues for The Arts: galleries, theatre, concerts and more; plus proximity to Hudson River art community. A great rental for a writer to get away from it all
Convenient to both Windham and Hunter Mountains. Many excellent restaurants 1-5 miles from the house: Vesuvio, Hammo's, Prime, Messina's, Chicken Run, Brandywine, Mulligan's, Millrock, Cave Mt. Brewery, Ze Windham Wine Bar, Jimmy O'Connor's . . .
