This beautiful family cabin, recently built in 2014, offers a modern/rustic stay in the Pioneer Mountains in southwest Montana. The cabin is situated 35 minutes west of Dillon and 30 minutes east of the Big Hole Valley, and is located on the Pioneer Mountain Scenic Byway. The home sits on a mountain overlooking the Grasshopper valley and has amazing views of the Pioneer Mountains and Maverick Mountain, a great ski hill for the whole family. Within 5 minutes you can be skiing at Maverick Mountain or soaking at Elkhorn Hot Springs. With public lands only a few hundred feet away there are miles of hiking, biking, horseback riding, cross country skiing and snowmobiling, literally out the back door.
There is much to explore in the area from mountain lakes, Coolidge ghost town, Bannack (Montana's first territorial capital), Big Hole National Battlefield, hunting, fishing (the Beaverhead river, Wise river and Big Hole river are all within 45 minutes), boating, waterskiing at Clark Canyon Reservoir, Crystal Park, plenty of scenery and wildlife, and many more activities for the whole family.
Dillon offers shopping, groceries, coffee shops, restaurants, movie theatre, Western Montana College, Patagonia Outlet store, and many other shops to fulfill your needs.
The cabin was constructed of hand hewn logs and circular sawn floors which offer rustic details that make this place a great cabin getaway. The cabin offers electric heat, a propane fireplace on the main floor and a wood fireplace in the walkout basement. There is a loft upstairs which holds a king size bed and two twin beds, and three windows. On the main floor there is the main entrance, a guest room with a queen bed and three windows, a bathroom with a claw foot tub and a window looking out to the Pioneers, a living room area with large panoramic windows, a leather couch, television and a walkout covered deck with seating looking over the property, and towards Maverick Mountain ski area. The kitchen has a dining table, stainless steel appliances and many of the common small appliances, cooking utensils, and dishwares a person may need. In the walkout basement there is another entrance into a social area to hang your snowy clothes by the fire. The basement also holds a guest room with a full size bed and a large window, a bathroom with a shower/bath, a futon and a washer/dryer. The cabin is surrounded by mature trees, and is easily accessed by a common road that is maintained year round.
The Grasshopper Valley offers two bar/restaurants, the Grasshopper Inn and Elkhorn Lodge and Hot springs. The grill and bar is open at Maverick Mountain during ski season. There is also Ma's country store with basic necessities and the Polaris post office.
We had a wonderful stay at this cabin. Very clean and had everything we needed!
Such a great location for a remote get away. We can't wait for our next visit!
We stayed at the cabin for 4 days and 3 nights. We enjoyed all of the hiking trails that are just minutes from the cabin. It was a nice way to disconnect for awhile. Also, the fire pit outside is a great way to relax after a long days worth of hiking. The owners were extremely accommodating as this was a last minute trip. The cabin itself is very clean and well stocked. I would definitely stay here again when coming to this part of the country.

This beautiful, custom built log home was the perfect rental for our group of six who visited the Grasshopper Valley to ski at Maverick Mountain. The home has everything needed for a relaxing cozy experience including a wood and/or gas fireplace, comfortable furniture, well equipped kitchen, amazing views and resident birds that hang outside the kitchen windows. The owners could not have been more accommodating. My only complaint is that I couldn't stay longer!
