The Surf Shack at Sparrow Pond

At 1,750 square feet, our 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom property comfortably accommodates up to 8 people – but as you’ve probably guessed, this is not your typical cottage.

Technology for a Connected Vacation (Plus Plenty of Reasons to Unplug)

The unique design of the living space features ample space to kick back and relax in front of a working fireplace. Punctuated by a high-vaulted ceiling, the living room is a tech-lover’s dream with cable and Apple TV available on a 60-inch Samsung high-definition smart TV, and a soundbar and subwoofer combination that adds enhanced sound to your favorite movie or tunes.

Take advantage of full-access WiFi coverage in both the indoor and outdoor living spaces, and enjoy Pandora, Internet radio and AirPlay in the living room, kitchen, screen porch and outdoor side porch.

Without question, among the property’s highlights are the stunning gourmet kitchen and top-of-the-line outdoor grilling area complete with a fire pit. Whether you want to throw together your favorite meal or try a new grilling recipe, this is your opportunity to let your cooking enthusiast come out to play.

And, just as you can choose where to cook, you also have a choice when it comes to dining. Outside, feel free to relax around the fire pit with friends and family and exchange stories from the day.

Or, set up shop in the al fresco dining area on the back deck. Overlooking the lagoon and outfitted with a ceiling fan, heaters and television, this screened-in space is inviting from sunrise to sundown (and late into the night!).

The property’s 4 bedrooms – 2 with king-sized beds, 1 with a queen-sized bed and 1 with a deluxe queen and twin bunk – are all outfitted with cutting-edge home technology, pillow-top mattresses, luxurious linens and high-end touches.

Each bedroom has access to its own bathroom with walk-in showers, and 2 bedrooms have direct access to an outdoor shower area. This completely private outdoor shower is the perfect place to rinse off that lingering beach sand and saltwater before heading out for the evening.

About Our Location

Despite the Surf Shack’s appeal, make sure you tear yourself away to check out what awaits around the island. Within walking distance are the community pool (one minute away), Atlantic Ocean with beach access (5 minutes) and Straw Market shops and restaurants (ten minutes). Hop in your car for a 30-minute drive to historic downtown Charleston.

Unsurprisingly, The Surf Sack at Sparrow Pond is one of our most popular Kiawah Island rentals, so book soon to reserve your stay. If it is already reserved for your chosen timeframe, don’t panic! Instead, check out our 4-bedroom oceanfront Breeze at Seascape property – you will be delighted!

About Shawn and Jeanette Lawson

About Property Managers, Shawn and Jeanette Lawson (Kiawah Island Getaways):

Shawn's family discovered Kiawah in 1978 and returned year after year for two-week vacations. In 1985 we drove our VW Bug convertible to Kiawah and Shawn introduced me to Kiawah. I remember stepping over the dune boardwalk out in front of the Kiawah Island Inn and seeing Kiawah's wide, sandy beach for the first time - it was so brilliant it practically danced before my eyes. It was during this vacation that the two of us decided to set our sights on moving to this beautiful and fascinating place permanently.

In 1988 our dreams came true and our U-Haul rattled across the Kiawah Island bridge (at that time it was nothing more than a wood-planked bridge). For the next four years we rented a 1-bedroom villa, 4251 Mariner's Watch. Shawn was so thrilled to be living on the island that he applied for the personalized South Carolina license plate 'KIAWAH' (which we still have today).

In 1992, we built our first home on the island at 134 Conifer Lane. During construction, I gave birth to our first son Benjamin - he arrived 2 months early in an ambulance outside of the Kiawah Island Fire Station.

In 2001, we purchased our first villa, a 1-bedroom, beachside Seascape and Kiawah Island Getaways was born. Once we got our feet wet with the villa rental business, it was a like a fever for us. We both really enjoyed furnishing, decorating and maintaining the villas - not to mention the new found fun of meeting and talking to all sorts of people about Kiawah. Because we really enjoy what we do, other Kiawah property owners noticed and we started managing their properties as well.

Our whole family loves Kiawah and running Kiawah Island Getaways is a true family-run business. We personally prepare each villa prior to your arrival - because we want your stay to be perfect. We want you to fall in love with Kiawah too...and we know you will.

Top Notch

  • 5 of 5

Kudos to the owners of the this villa!!! The amount of effort and detail in their renovation was not missed by our family of 5 during our week long stay in May. Every nook and cranny was utilized with a purpose much like how a boat is outfitted. I hope other people appreciate and realize Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances are not the norm in rentals!!! While not large in size the villa was exploding with all the basics and lots more to make a week long stay enjoyable. The kitchen was well equipped (better than mine), high end appliances, super comfortable beds with nice linens, large screen TV's, a Sonos system, a fabulous outside shower (which was heaven) and lots of outdoor seating for hanging out. The beach access was a 5-7 minute walk or a quick bike ride away. Enjoyed meeting Shawn and Jeanette, the property managers, who take great pride in their staging of this home ... it really shows and we so appreciated it. There's nothing better than walking into a rental and being met by such high standards.

Fabulous home

  • 5 of 5

This is a stylish, beautifully designed home. one of the bedrooms is a bit cramped (a big bed but not a lot of floor space), but we loved the house. High-end appliances, excellent TV, comfy beds, etc. Potential renters should bear in mind that the main dining table is on the screened porch (no A/C). It might get a little stuffy out there in the summer, but fine in the Spring and Fall.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the excellent review. Indeed - the cottage is Bali-Inspired - which involves dining alfresco. There are two ceiling fans and also infared heat strips in the screen porch, coupled with a beautiful lagoon view and of course, TV. You were wonderful guests and we look forward to hosting your next stay on Kiawah!

Four-some for golf

  • 4 of 5

Great place for 4 guys to go for a golf vacation. 4 separate bedrooms each with a bathroom. Living room seating could be better. Nice outside area. Golf however is expensive!

A level above all others!

  • 5 of 5

By far a level above all others! Meticulously cared for rentals that are tastefully furnished ( each with its own unique flair). Fully stocked kitchens, comfy beds and fluffy towels. Everything has been thought out with fresh flowers and soothing music to greet you as a beautiful way to begin your stay. Shawn and Jeanette are so wonderful! Looking forward to many more stays in the future.

Great Place To Relax And Unwind

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place to get away, relax and unwind. The Surf Shack is very nice, comfortable and great for a couple or family. My husband, myself and our baby had a few nights alone, and we also had family visit for a few days (2 adults and 2 children) and there was plenty of space for everyone. Sean & Jeanette thought of everything...the beds are very comfortable, with nice linens and towels. They had the crib and highchair I needed to rent...which was very was all set up and ready to go when we arrived. There is a TV in each room, a GREAT outdoor seating area with a grill and fire pit.... as well as a screened outside dinning area with heaters, a fan and a TV. The kitchen is has everything you need if you want to prepare a meal of your own. The cottage is within short walking distance to the pool and the beach. The setting is very quite and peaceful, could not have asked for more. My only suggestion would be to allow additional travel time if you plan to drive into Charleston for the day, it is only a 30-40 min. drive but during the week the traffic coming to and from the island can get really backed up. My husband was attending a medical conference downtown, so this was our only issue. We do not regret staying on the island, but would have booked a hotel our first few days and then moved out to the island for the remainder of our trip.
