Beach Holme, Sea Brae and The Boathouse are all located in the same spectacular location. Beach Holme is our family holiday home by the sea, a double fronted Victorian Villa. Sea Brae is a whitewashed, weatherboarded, large 2 double bedroomed, attic apartment with wonderful sea views. The Boathouse is a fabulously converted cabin for romantic couples. All properties are separate from the others, each offering complete privacy and their own front doors along with access to the safe and very private beach of Monks Bay in the award winning village of Bonchurch. If availability allows all the properties can be rented together although large celebrations are not encouraged. Being at the far end of a private road, which finishes just a few yards away on the beach, it is quiet and safe. From the front of the property there are uninterrupted, constantly changing, sea views and there is nothing like sleeping to sound of the waves. Monks Bay is one of the Islands best kept secrets, with its mixture of sand, pebbles, delightful rock pools and safe swimming. Bonchurch is known for its temperate climate and during a hot week you may not want to stray from this perfect spot. It is also an excellent base for out of season breaks with wonderful walks and cosy pubs all a stones throw from the front doors. The crashing waves during Winter can be quite spectacular

Beach Holme is our family holiday home by the sea. A beautiful Double Fronted Victorian Villa, perfectly equipped for families and friends with a playroom and secure garden for the smaller members of your party along with a safe and very private beach. It's in a stunning location on the beach front in the award winning village of Bonchurch. Being at the far end of a private road, which finishes just a few yards away on the beach, it is quiet and safe. From the front of the property there are uninterrupted, constantly changing, sea views and there is nothing like sleeping to sound of the waves. Monks Bay is one of the Islands best kept secrets, with its mixture of sand, pebbles, delightful rock pools and safe swimming. Bonchurch is known for its temperate climate and during a hot week you may not want to stray from this perfect spot. It is an excellent base for out of season breaks, with a wood burning stove and a wonderful conservatory to watch the waves from the warmth of inside.

About Louise Smith

Years of traveling far and wide with my job and many adventurous holidays with my husband means I have stayed in all sorts of accommodation around the world from basic tents in Kenya to incredible luxury resorts in the Far East, from city hotels in New York to Country Manors in Wales . Now living on a farm in the UK with our children, horses, dogs, cats and chickens it's always treat to escape to the sea.

Why Louise Smith chose Isle of Wight

We were lucky enough to buy Beach Holme when we were living in London and looking for a seaside place to enjoy as a family. Our only criteria was that we wanted to find somewhere right on the sea - along with it being beautiful and quiet, away from any built up areas! It so happens my own great, great grandparents were islanders and we have a good family history of coastguards there.

What makes this villa unique

There's no question that being so close to the sea is the biggest lure for Beach Holme, Sea Brae and The Boathouse. Sheltered from the prevailing wind, the sea facing garden is a delight to relax in year round. I frequently eat breakfast in PJ's outside in February and guests have reported New Years Day BBQ's! The predictability of the tides along with the ever changing moods of the water makes for a very special place to stay. In Winter it can be a snug, safe place to watch waves crashing into the sea wall and salt spray flying high into the air, while in Summer a bay of cool, blue gently laps at the sand. And while I may mention it many times over, there really is nothing like sleeping to the sound of the waves.

Good location, comfortable home and all of us from age 2 upwards enjoyed our week despite the rain. Safe for the children, and the holiday exceeded our expectations.

Lovely family home to share

We had an absolutely lovely few days in this very comfortable, beautifully looked after family house. Huge front bedrooms overlooking the sea. Fantastic location and so thoughtfully furnished, toys for the baby and all manner of beach equipment in the front porch for all to share. Great!

Lovely For Small Children

Beach Holme is a lovely holiday house in a fantastic position. The best part of this house being how well equipped it is for small children: there is a separate large play room full of quality toys and puzzles. The small front garden is gated where the outside can be accessed safely by children. We liked the wood floors, tasteful furniture, including what appeared to be Renny Mackintosh bureau in main room. You looked from well equipped kitchen out through living area onto the sea – lovely. The main bedroom is delightful; my husband spent much time on the desk in the bay window watching the sea-bound channel crossing traffic. Bonchurch is situated right above the house and is full charm - you need to be mobile to do the climb, as well as to walk along the seawall into Ventnor.

However we were disappointed to find no sandy beach in front of the house as pictures would suggest. It might also be noted that you might think the entire house was yours, but the top has been turned into a self-contained apartment, and we were hearing footsteps above at 6 am. There are maintenance issues and in particular the lovely white front veranda was in desperate need of repair and painting. (The mouse whizzing into the store under the stairs might also give concern.)

Owner's Response: Sounds like I need to send my fabulous mousing cat over! In all seriousness, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at Beach Holme. I will, of course, check out the mouse and have him removed asap!! The exterior of the veranda took more than it's usual battering over the last Winter and is due for an overhaul right now (unfortunately we can't do major work over the Summer months with our guests staying). The same goes for the beach - our trusty longshoreman assures me that a lot of the sand washed away with the Winter storms and although we have to wait it will reappear with a correct tide sometime soon. I'm continually amazed by being so close to the sea and the way nature changes the environment there. This is the first time in 10 years that this has happened and I'm afraid is one instance when nature must take it's course. Thanks, Louise. ........ AN UPDATE! .......All the windows have been replaced with beautiful sash ones and the conservatory has been completely replaced - it looks fabulous! The sand is back on the beach too 😊 Louise

Amazing place with Amazing Location!

I LOVE this place! This is the second time I've stayed and will make sure I return ASAP! Beautiful relaxed beach house, no more than 30 foot from the sea....simply Stunning! A place to really kick back and relax. Super family friendly. Louise has created a chic and relaxed environment. I can't recommend it more!

Something special

Beach Holme is a magical place to stay, Louise has created a very special holiday house, spacious and modern but retaining all the charm of a Victorian property. To be this close to a very private beach is amazing and the front bedroom views feel like you are waking up on the ocean. We were lucky to stay here and hope to return again one day. Breathtaking

This property is an absolute must to hire/rent. It truly is amazing. The views of the beach/sea is spectacular. I went with my family and we certainly had plenty of space to roam, relax, eat, sleep and play. There was a playroom for Ava. I've never come across a property as stunning as this in the UK. It's really clean, well maintained, it has everything you need. It felt so comfortable to be in, it feels like your own home but on a grander scale and you have the bonus of the sea/beach on your doorstep. The owners Lou and Jason emailed me with a great list of things to do in the area, places to eat etc. And they were right on par. I most CERTAINLY would recommend this place to my friends/family and to those that are thinking of renting this place. It's beautiful, Wow!! We wish we were there right now. I'm definitely coming back to this stunning house.

Location

Bonchurch is a beautiful village on the South East coast of the Isle of Wight. it is surrounded by the St Boniface Downs which tower up high above it's coastal location, protecting it from adverse weather, giving it it's wonderful temperate climate. Located on the coastal path, there is mile upon mile of picturesque coastal and inland walks literally on the doorstep. Bonchurch lies between two bigger sea side resorts, Shanklin and Ventnor, both about a 20 minute walk away (Ventnor can be reached by bicycle along the sea wall in 10 minutes). Both resorts have sandy, award winning beaches and delicious eateries. Bonchurch beachfront, Monks Bay, itself consists of a pottery and 5 houses. There is a fabulous contemporary brasserie in the village and The Bonchurch Inn our wonderful village pub. The world renowned sailing resort of Cowes is a 35 minute drive away and the rest of the island and all it's attractions can be easily reached by car or bus.
