Great rustic spot
We’ve loved our stay here. There is plenty of space for two adults and a toddler. It’s fairly safe for the toddler too (there is an area by the indoor stairs that might be a problem for a younger crawler). The bed is fantastic (one of the best we’ve had at a rental). The views from the house a beautiful. I’ve loved waking up to watch the sunrise from bed (bring an eye mask if you don’t want to wake with the sun). The kitchen is basic but does the job. It’s been nice to have a washer/dryer too.
Tips: make sure to arrive before sundown the first time. There are also lots of stairs, just FYI and it is rustic so there are bugs around.
Overall, we have loved our stay and are sad to go!
Hard to find property!!!!! Number at property would help!
First everything was dirty. The grass was hip high to make it to the entry 10 steps.
We had only one key provided. Most screens on windows are either missing or torn. We could not open windows during night without being stung by mosquitos. Also, this is not for somebody with bad knees or hips. There are at least 20 high steps to negotiate to make it to the top level...the kitchen. We had to buy two chairs to be able to sit down. ( we do want to be reimbursed for the chairs cost was $30).
We could not hang any clothes in closets they are full with junk. Property became infested with bugs we left one night earlier. Grass was cut after first week.
Good thing was washer and dryer. Kitchen had all appliances and plenty of dishes, but all was dirty and I had to wash everything we used.
We would suggest that properties are inspected on a regular basis. We can not recommend your site to anybody with terrible experiences like that..
Please do not stay at this property. We had a terrible experience with the owner who is dishonest
We had planned to stay at this property for three nights. Unfortunately, due to driving conditions on I-70, we arrived a day late, in the evening. We spent over an hour searching for the house on poorly marked and snowy roads. There were no directions provided to the house and it is very difficult to find, as the turnoff at the address is only the start of the trek up to the house, including multiple turns and a fork in the road. Limited cell phone reception in the area makes navigation even more challenging. We were able to intermittently reach the local contact for the property. We finally found the house and then spent nearly 30 minutes trying to get the lock box to work. My wife and I both separately tried and I even tried combinations close on the off chance that one number was slightly off. The lack of any porch lighting made this even more challenging in the complete darkness, using our cell phone lights.
We finally gave up and resolved ourselves to finding a hotel in Basalt because it was well past our kids bedtime and we were all stressed out by the experience. After calling the owner to express our frustration and anger at the situation, we ended the conversation on amicable terms and in agreement that he would call the property manager and issue a refund. As we were checking into our hotel, the owner called back and began the conversation by accusing me of lying and not evening being in Colorado. I was floored. Then he continued to make up a story about how there was no snow, how I wasn’t even in Colorado, that I didn’t even go to the house and that I was a scam artist.
I could not believe the audacity. I described the house to him and the condition of the roads. He offended me so much in our conversation that I offered to drive 30 minutes back to the house to meet the property manager onsite to prove that I had been to the house and that the lock box code did not work. His story continued to change the next day, never taking any responsibility, much less an apology for questioning my integrity.
This was by far the worst rental experience I have ever had and we are have yet to receive a full refund. Now the accusation is that we will not receive a full refund due to "user error" with the lock box. The property was difficult to find with no directions, and the owner is dishonest and insulting. I do not want any other family to experience anything like this.
Tiia, we appreciate and welcome constructive feedback, although we and the homeowner do not believe this feedback is warranted. We understand the owner took generous measures to make up for the inconvenience you encountered, and we regret if the measures taken were not satisfactory to you. The address of the cabin and lockbox information are sent prior to arrival. Google Maps provides good directions to the cabin and there are signs for the property along the main roads and cabin driveway. Spotty cell service is due to the mountainous location of the cabin and is clearly listed in the description that travelers can see before they book. We also remind guests two weeks prior to their arrival. Based on our understanding, the local contact worked with you extensively and offered to meet you the following morning with a key. They did their best to accommodate you, but their assistance was rejected. The guest contact checked the lockbox code and confirmed that it is in working order. The owner contacted the lockbox manufacturer customer service and a locksmith after your stay. Based on their advice, we are confident that the lockbox code worked, and the issue was the result of user error. The owner truly goes above and beyond for its guests to ensure they have a five-star experience. We are sorry this scenario impacted your stay, but the owner is dedicated to the experience of the guest and we are confident this cabin will continue to host many satisfied guests. Best, the Evolve Team
