About Cheryl Santos

My husband Jim and I moved to Cayuga Lake in 2002 - he from Pine City NY and me from Hawaii. We both are naturally drawn to water, so Cayuga Lake was our chosen place. My husband has 3 grown children and he retired in 2012. Now our children are of the four-legged sort (we have friendly tale-wagging dogs and we invite you to bring your dogs along). We live directly across the street from the cabin and we are always available if you need anything. We take great pride in providing a clean, comfortable vacation property, and it is important to us that you have a wonderful vacation experience. We want to ensure that you’ll make memories here that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Why Cheryl Santos chose Seneca Lake

We chose Cayuga Lake for its natural beauty, the variety of things to see and do in close proximity, yet also the tranquility of country living. We envisioned building a cabin here so we could share this unique area with others, providing a comfortable retreat for our guests. We designed and built the cabin as a contemporary modern space yet with rustic charm.

What makes this cabin unique

Situated in a sunny field adjoining the woods, this log cabin is a tranquil retreat. It is very spacious for 2 – 6 people with an open floor plan, cathedral ceilings, and 2 private bedrooms. It is impeccably clean and is well equipped with most necessary items. A walking trail across the street gives you access to Cayuga Lake. The cabin is centrally located on the Cayuga Wine Trail. Nearby are hiking trails, biking paths, and quaint shops. The cabin rental costs less per person than many hotels, plus you have your own private space. The radiant floor heating warms the cabin to a cozy temperature on cool nights. It is also air conditioned for your comfort in summer months.

Restful fall getaway !

  • 5 of 5

We recently spent 2 nights at this excellently appointed cabin in the Finger Lakes. You will not need to bring anything for your stay other than food and clothing. The cabin was spotless, cozy and inviting. The separate private bedrooms were definitely a plus with a toddler in tow. The cabin is also conveniently located near several wineries, craft breweries and cider houses. We were also near several state parks as well as the lovely town of Ithaca. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. I would highly recommend staying here for a family getaway, a romantic trip or girls' weekend. Look no further !

Beautiful property in an amazing setting!

  • 5 of 5

I had arranged a weekend getaway for my parents who were celebrating their birthdays. The owners Cheryl and Jim couldn't have been more accommodating. Not only did they arrange for a beautiful wine and cheese appetizer gift upon their arrival but they also wanted to ensure that they had selected a great fishing boat experience for my father to complete his bucket list experience on Lake Cayuga!

Needless to say, the property itself was in a beautiful location. Everything you could possibly need to prepare a gourmet meal was located in the kitchen. The cabin was pristine and tastefully decorated. I can't say enough how happy I am that I chose this location. My parents had never tried the VRBO experience before and were a bit hesitant. Now that they experienced it at 84 and 79 years of age...they may never go back to other accommodations. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Owner's Response: Thank you for this beautiful review Maria. Jim and I were so honored to host your parents for their bucket list trip to Cayuga Lake. They were an absolutely delightful and charming couple. I was so impressed that they took the time to write a note in our guest book and to write a thank you note which I received in the mail yesterday. It was great seeing your father relaxing on the front porch reading a book by his favorite author. I am so happy everything worked out well for them, from the cabin amenities to the boat trip. Prior to going out on the boat they had scoped out Deans Cove boat launch and had no trouble finding it 5 minutes north of the cabin. I do hope that they can return again in the near future and bring you along for the trip! It was so sweet of you to make all the arrangements for their visit and for your father's 84th birthday. I was expecting a frail elderly couple but found to my delight that they are just the opposite of that - vibrant, vigorous, and jovial. Thank you very much for booking our cabin and we hope to see you and them for a future getaway! Kind regards, Cheryl

Home away from home

Cabin was beautiful inside & out. Didn't expect to find high-end items for use inside. It was nice to know the owners were directly across the street & available to help resolve any issues. Perhaps move the picnic table & grill closer to each other?

And we will definitely act on your suggestion to relocate the picnic table closer to the grill. We hope you return to stay again in the future. Regards, Cheryl and Jim

Nice Cabin, very hard hike to water

  • 3 of 5

The cabin was very nice, roomy, and clean. The kitchen was stocked very well. Cheryl and Jim were very friendly. On the downside, the lake was very difficult to get to (even for me and I am a runner and avid hiker) as it was down a very steep and long hill along. Also, we felt that Jim and Cheryl were a bit too intruding- they live across the street and can see the cabins/fire pit from their house. They have quiet hours after 10pm, but one night we were by the fire pit around 9:15 and were told to lower our music (I personally didn't think it was loud at all -we also asked the guests in the other cabin if they were okay with our music and they were). One other small complaint was that if we were to use the grill we had to cover it with foil first in order to keep it clean...wasn't thrilled about grilling my steak on foil).

The finger lakes are gorgeous. Be sure to hike Watkins Glen and Robert Truman State Park if you go!

Owner's Response: Hello Lisa - thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I am so glad you liked the cabin, and I am terribly sorry that you found the walk to the lake difficult. It is hilly, no doubt about that. We understand that and so tell all our guests about other options for lake access, such as the one minute drive north of the cabin to the Van Riper Conservation area, which has a gentle sloping grassy path to the lake, and the Taughannock Falls State Park, 15 minutes south of the cabin, with level lake beach access. I am also sorry that you found that the use of aluminum foil on the grill interfered with your enjoyment of your steak dinner. It is only a suggestion, not a mandatory requirement, and the intention is to keep the grill clean and sanitary for the next guests' use. That said, if a guest chooses not to use the aluminum foil we provide, we do clean the grill anyhow after checkout. Thank you again for taking the time to leave us feedback - all of it will be taken under consideration. Kind regards, Cheryl
