Hawaiian style remodeled Ocean Front Condo Molokai Hawaii
- English, French, German
About Sigrid Marmann
I'm a Realtor in Las Vegas, NV where I now live for 14 years before I moved from the Bay Area, California. Prior to that I was raised im Saarland/ Germany, worked in Switzerland, England, France and traveled to many interesting places in Europe and the US. It was my dream to come to California, San Francisco which I realized many years ago. I started as mother's help and worked my way up as an independent consultant for Fortune 500 companies until the bug bit me again and I moved to Las Vegas. I have a great 1-story home with pool and tropical backyard, available for shortterm rental with 2 bedrooms/ 2 bath for 2-4 guests maximum. Come, be my guests and spend some awesome time in any of the two properties .
Why Sigrid Marmann chose Kaunakakai
I was attracted to Molokai, Hawaii because of its rich history, its deserted milelong sand beaches at the west end, its mystic beauty, untouched rainforests and plants that grow only on Molokai, about the sad, primitive existence of the lepra colony in Kalaupapa, deprived from their family and friends for life.. While visiting a small museum and chatting with the manager, she mentioned that there was an ocean front condo for sale. I visited it, fell in love, and purchased it. I fixed it up, upgraded it, enhanced the amentities and returned many times as a visitor myself with my family and friends. It is truly paradise!
What makes this Condo unique
It's located 7 miles off the Molokai airport in the lovely Molokai Shores Resort. You can never get lost since there is only ONE highway taking you to the East side, and another one to the West side. Beaches ... you can only dream about. You can hop into a small propeller airplane to visit all the other islands. You can take a mule ride, helicopter ride or hike down the cliffs to Kalaupapa where a guided tour takes you to the lepra colony. And it's a paradise for snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, hiking ... You'll take memories back home that are unforgettable and you long to come back again soon.

Dirty and dated
We loved our visit to Moloka’i. The people were very friendly. There truly isn’t much to do here but that was fine by us. The beaches were very empty so that was great.
This condo has a beautiful view but that’s about all it has going for it. It needs a major update. The carpets are filthy and the bathroom has mold in the shower. There is plenty of cooking supplies which is a plus. The TV wouldn’t work and there really isn’t anyone to help solve problems. The office is only open till 8am-2pm M-F and the signage keeps saying these units are all individually owned.
Our friends stayed in the unit below us and there were cockroaches and mouse poop in the drawers. Needless to say we did all the cooking in our unit. Obviously they know there’s a problem as there were mouse traps set in their unit without bait of course. When they called to report it they were given a $50 discount. Really, that was a slap in the face considering what the unit cost to rent.
Unfortunately there aren’t many choices in Moloka’i. We were referred here by a friend but I would not refer someone here.
If I could post pictures here I would but that doesn’t seem to be an option.
What a shame you did not enjoy your stay! What a waste of money! To give it a 1-star doesn't sound very credible since most of my reviews are 5, some 4 stars.
You have received my WELCOME letter prior to move-in which provided you with detailed information including contact of my local prop.mgt company as well as my direct phone number in case of questions or problems. Why didn't you pick up the phone? It also contained checkout procedures to follow. After talking with my prop.mgt company they confirmed that the unit has been thoroughly cleaned prior to your move-in.
Since you expected to be in a Hilton Hotel, I agree with you that Molokai as a whole and my condo specifically where a bad choice. I'm sorry you missed out on all the adventures, hikes, whale watching, epic sunrises and history Molokai has to offer. A twist in your attitude would have unveiled it all. The comfort, appreciation, enjoyment and relaxation of my guests are dear to my heart. I'm sorry again you choose to dislike your stay.
Condo was very nice. Enjoyed the view from the deck of the common area, the ocean and Lanai. The sunsets were fabulous. It was nice to walk along the beach. Moloka'i is a friendly, beautiful, quiet island. In the 4 days we were there, we enjoyed our drives on the island. Views were fantastic. It was easy to navigate! It is a small island, but we loved it. If you are looking for fancy restaurants or nightclubs, it is probably not for you! But if you love nature and enjoy the little things, you will love it. There are beautiful beaches to play on, you just have to drive down the road a little. We loved every moment we were on the island.
Thank you Linda, for your great review. It makes me feel happy when my guests are happy.
Please do come again.
Great location beautifully appointed condo.
We spent a week on Molokai. This condo is very well appointed and we did a lot of cooking while there. The gas stove worked well. There were plenty of pots, pans, dishes etc. previous tenants had left some staples that we were thankful for and we, in turn, did the same. Local grocery stores were well stocked. The outdoor grills are both gas (Weber) and charcoal
The balcony has a superb view of the ocean and is covered so well protected during the numerous rain showers we had. .
Travel to all parts of the island very easy from this centrally located condo. Be aware, it is difficult to get a flight into Kalaupapa. We tried every day and did not succeed. The trails were closed due to mudslides so it was the only way in.
Sigrid was very efficient in handing our rental with quick responses to our questions. The staff at the condo office was very friendly on check in. All in all it was a great week!
Thank you Marlene, you wrote such a nice detailed review about your stay in my condo and Molokai, much appreciated.
Great BNB on A Paradise Island
Sigrid's condo is the perfect place for a relaxed stay in Molokai.
Older, nice private condo; centrally located; Molokai is very relaxed...
Nice place, very much enjoyed the stay, except for some minor nits. No hand soap for bathroom or shower (normal for condo?), no extra paper towels for kitchen, no change machine in the common laundry downstairs, and similar things. Major irks are: 1. No air conditioning, and 2. The advertised, up front price is a lot less than actual due to cleaning and other fees, taxes, etc. I think this is standard practice for most of these places, but this one seemed extreme. Great location, but set your expectations accordingly; this is a private condo, not the Marriott. As for Molokai, it is a great place if you want to sit on a gorgeous beach and read your book, but there is not a lot going on otherwise. We definitely will be back when we want a very quiet, laid-back vacation. The mule ride down to the leper colony was fun, though quite expensive. BTW, this condo is for sale if you're interested in reasonably priced real estate in Hawaii...
ALOHA Steve, thank you for your review.
I'm sorry about missing soap, towels... I informed my management company accordingly.
In this resort, none of the units have air conditioning other than ceiling fans and the breeze from the ocean. Since the average temperature is between 80 - 85F that shouldn't be an inconvenience. Or is it?
As far as the fees are concerned, I consider them fair. In fact. my August/ September rent was less than $90/night, a price not offered elsewhere in the resort.
While Molokai is very laid back, without hardly any changes for the last hundred years, that's why it is such a wonderful place to enjoy life. Depending on your mood, you can sit on a beach or you can visit the Museum, the former Leper colony in Kalaupapa surrounded by steep, mysterious, gorgeous mountains; the long deserted white beaches on the West side; hiking in the rainforests with the most lavish gorgeous waterfalls; visit the tropical flower farm and orchard; enjoy the weekly farmers market with the best delicious fruits ever; take kayak trips, go fishing, swimming and and and .. Did you know that the Hula dance evolved on Molokai?
I'm exited to have you as my guests again next time you visit Molokai!
In the meantime, wishing you ongoing great health and happiness,
Mahalo nui loa,
Well equipped, but just dated.
Pros: getting in & out was super easy
Had everything we needed
Cons: NO heads up that the POOL would be unavailable the ENTIRE holiday weekend due to resurfacing- BIG bummer for the kids!
Unit was dated- I was a little sketched out to sleep under the ceiling fans as low was very low(not circulating air), and high was like airplane propeller high...
I didn't know that the pool was closed due to resurfacing. I can understand the disappointment but... the ocean was right at your door steps, very calm water due to the reef. There are beautiful beaches not far away and then you had the marvelous mile long deserted beaches on the West side. I called you twice and left a message asking if everything was OK - you never responded.
Sorry you felt the unit was dated. It was furnished with love and the Aloha spirit in mind and is constantly updated.
You complained about the ceiling fan, when you could have stepped onto the lanai to feel the cooling breeze from the ocean to enjoy and relax.
Just for the records, I gave you a very special deal: first the reduced rate and second never charged you for your kids. I'm renting my condo for many years - most of my ratings are 5-star, some 4-star. Your 3-star rating I consider unfair. A little THANK YOU would have been quite welcomed instead
Molokao Shores is 7miles east from the airport:, travel EAST on Kamehamea V Hwy, pass Kaunakakai,HI 96748 (5 miles), travel additional 2 miles on Kamehamea Hwy to Molokai Shores on your right, enter the resort on your right to the parking area of Bldg. C,
