You are viewing the separate upstairs unit, Wren's Nest, in this picturesque carriage house which sits next to our home, Craven House, in the beautiful historic district in downtown Beaufort, one block from the marina, shopping, museums and restaurants. Walk everywhere, even to the post office. Wren’s Nest has 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with a full bed. In between the two bedrooms, there is a shared full bath. The sound of the church bells of nearby St Helena Church, one of the oldest continual working churches in the country, will take you back into the 18th century.
This carriage house with separate upper and lower units was recently brought back to life after many years of neglect. Mike Tomy is an award winning architect and Ellen painted portraits for 15 years and now paints miniatures. They are both retired and recently renovated the main house and the carriage house that sits near.
Ellen and Mike Tomy purchased this cottage in 2012
The carriage house has wonderful views of historic homes. The trees somewhat block the view of the water, but it is just a block away. Park the car and walk to museums, restaurants, shops, marina and art galleries. Or take a horse drawn carriage ride along the streets of Beautiful historic district. Go for a drive to Hunting beach and climb the lighthouse. Stop in the colorful shops and road side vegetable stands along the way.
The Carriage House on Craven, central to all that is happening in Beaufort has a separate unit downstairs (property 742825) if one has a large party and all want to stay in one place.
During the many yearly festivals parking is not easy to find in town. Just stay at the carriage house, leave the car and the festivals are a block away. Meander through one-of-a-kind shops on Bay Street and enjoy fabulous seafood in Beaufort's unique restaurants. If you don't want to eat out, a fully equipped kitchen is ready for you.
We were thrilled to be heading back to Craven House for the second time. We can't think of anywhere else we would like to stay. Ellen and Mike are great hosts. They go out of their way to make your visit most enjoyable. The accommodations are excellent. The unit is spotless and the beds are very comfortable. This time we took full advantage of the great kitchen in the unit. Craven House's close proximity to downtown Beaufort offers many opportunities to shop, have a morning cup of coffee, dine and take a ride on the swings that face the waterfront. We are looking forward to seeing Ellen and Mike in the future.
Beautifully renovated property, comfortable and the owners are great hosts. Perfect for a long weekend or a week.
I really enjoyed my stay. Beautiful, clean, and convenient to shops and restaurants. The cottage was perfect for our weekend and we hope to stay again!!
Beautiful furnishings, very comfortable beds, private, yet within walking distance of the riverfront, the restaurants, and the shops. Loved sitiing on the front porch of our apartment and also visiting with Ellen and Mike and their sweet dogs on their spacious front porch.
I was unable to stay at this beautiful rental due to hurricane Matthew. That being said the hosts were responsive and kind when I asked to postpone and eventually cancel my rental of their carriage house. They refunded me in full quickly even though I'm sure they were dealing with cleanup after hurricane. If and when I return to beautiful Beaufort I will undoubtedly be staying here.
We wanted to be close to downtown and be able to walk to the shops and the Shrimp Festival. The location was just where we needed to be. Designated parking and accommodations that made us feel right at home. Loved the "dog" art throughout the apartment especially the westie piece (since we have 2 westies at home). This apartment even has rocking chairs on the porch to enjoy the views. Thank you and I am certain we will be back!
