About the property

Family Summer Retreat, 5 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps 12

Located on one of Squam Lake’s rare private peninsulas, Camp Finisterre offers the greatest luxury of all: simple living in a spectacular setting.

This former fishing camp-turned-family getaway is a throwback to an unplugged era. From the moment you leave your car behind and begin the short walk down the blueberry-lined path (your first glimpse of Finisterre’s 2,000 feet of shoreline), you will feel like you have arrived back at summer camp. Just as then, all you’ll need is your swimsuit and a good book.

Finisterre was constructed on this “end of the earth” promontory in the early 20th century. Set on an acre of land surrounded on nearly all sides by water, the camp hosted anglers, including President Cleveland, who flocked to its clear green waters, sandy-bottomed coves, and rocky shoals. It was converted to a family retreat that was purchased in 1957 by the Brown family who in the ensuing decades have welcomed family, friends, and, more recently, renters to its peaceful embrace.

From the beginning, Finisterre has been a special place for all ages to gather. The spacious, shingled house (3,900 square feet including its wide, covered porches) have been renovated and yet have maintained their vintage charm, with bead board siding, wood framed windows, indoor/outdoor living, and a mix of modest New England furnishings. It is wonderfully comfortable, though nothing here is precious, save kinship and nature.

Simply put, the camp invites relaxing. Free of modern life’s distractions, your biggest decision may be whether to take a dip in the lake or a nap on the porch. Come sunset, you can gather for a sun downer on the west-facing dock, convene for supper in the large, eat-in kitchen, and move your party to the fire ring at the end of the point for s’mores. Finally, retire to one of the camp’s airy bedrooms where you will fall asleep to the calls of loons and the lapping of waves.

Your assignment for the next day? Rinse and repeat.

To get a sense of just how private your escape will be, check out the aerial photo below. Our camp is the entire peninsula on the right.

You're close to everything (including the charming town of Holderness), and yet far away from it all.

• On small cove shared with just one other family

• Directly across from Squam Lakes Association where you can rent sailboats, kayaks, and more

• 2 miles from Holderness

• 6 miles from Ashland

• 10 miles from Meredith

Why tucker pierson chose Holderness

Concord resident Mrs. Brown purchased this summer getaway for her family of six. Four generations of the Brown family have since gathered at Finisterre for summer vacations, family reunions, weddings, and good old-fashioned fun. Mrs. Brown passed the camp on to her sons Steve and Tom, who have managed Finisterre for the enjoyment of their children, grandchildren, and friends. They have recently sold Finisterre to their cousin Tucker and her husband Travis. They welcome renters to share this special place.

What makes this house unique

Simple pleasures and privacy on Squam Lake’s best location.

A rustic summer camp, there is no television, no laundry, and no wifi, but there is ping pong and a lake. The screened-in porch is one of the best places to read, sing camp songs, or listen to the loons.

Beautiful location!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a long weekend at Finisterre in late June 2017 with your daughter and friends. The cabin is very rustic though comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked and the ceiling fan on a sticky day is perfect. Tucker/owner was so easy to work with and very accommodating. The location is beautiful with water on almost every side - nice dock, fire pit at the tip of the property is really cool. Great stay! Thank you!

Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

An extraordinary location with a home that is "all Squam". Amazing setting with incredible views and literally ON the water. Wonderful, friendly hosts that showed care and concern for our comfort. The lodge has a fully equipped kitchen, great bedrooms with comfortable beds and the fireplace, if you need it, is great. Throw in a huge screened in porch large dock and swim float and outdoor fire pit...well, book fast because we're going back again to stay longer!

Relaxing Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a long weekend at Camp Finisterre with our grown children, their spouses, our grandchildren and our dogs. The camp was very spacious and private - which is exactly what we were looking for. Its large eat-in kitchen with a table for 12 and a pantry with two refrigerators and lots of pots & pans was perfect for our needs. We particularly enjoyed the large screen porch. Great views from every room in the house and we enjoyed a beautiful sunrise every morning and a sunset while sitting around the firepit in the evening.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words, Dianne. We are so glad that you and your family enjoyed your time at Camp Finisterre! We love hearing of other families sitting around that kitchen table and out at the fire pit on the point: all of the generations eating and chatting together (and eating s'mores)! We hope you can come back! Sincerely, tucker

Unsurpassed Lake Vacation

  • 5 of 5

With a number of extended family members, my wife and I have been renting one or two weeks on Squam every summer since 1994. Before that we did Winnepesauke. By FAR, this is the location we have enjoyed the most, and plan to continue returning to. The privacy, the unique perfection of the location, the expansive porches, the quality and size of the dock for watercraft and swimming, the functionality of the kitchen and the serenity of the whole are nothing less than awesome. I would highly recommend this vacation rental for families with children through retirees with none.
