Peaceful & secluded on the shore of St Margaret's Bay
A short drive to Peggy's Cove, Mahone Bay Lunenburg & Halifax
This unique cottage is spotlessly clean with all new bedding dishes etc, a great spot for bird watching with bike & walking trails & kayaking & bike rentals near by.
This area offers Rails for Trails that goes from Halifax to Chester Nova Scotia, with great ocean views and wild woodlands & beautiful sandy beaches on route
Also boat trips from Shining Waters Marina just down the road
to explore St Margaret's Bay
It's fully equipped with Washer & Drier, full kitchen, wi/fi high speed internet free local phone & lots of parking, of course deer ducks rabbits and Canada Geese passing through the property
We bought a older cottage and completely rebuilt it for our family use never thinking of renting we have continued improving the ocean front including a new wharf just being
finished with a fire pit by the shore on a large treed lot.
However our children have moved away & its just far to nice not to be enjoyed by others
Tom Maguire, Manager purchased this cottage in 2005
We liked it being 30 minutes from downtown Halifax where we live making it close by &
so convenient
Situated in a private cove with a very large property loaded with interesting wild life
and being only minutes from everything not to mention the great sunsets as you sit
by the shore warming your self by the fire pit - maybe enjoying lunch or dinner and
creating great memories of you visit to Nova Scotia
Overall we loved the cottage. Our timing was not the greatest as they were pouring concrete and doing some upgrade work on the property, so we had a couple of mornings interrupted, but Tom (manager) and Tony (owner) were quick with a kind word or a bottle of wine 🍷? (Tony's own: very delicious!) to smooth over the ruckus.
The property is located near the waters edge and has an impressive dock as well. The cottage itself was clean, stocked with essentials, new linens, new a/c unit.
Practically next door to The White Sails bakery, make sure you visit and have the Montreal smoked meat Sammy, (The owner is from Québec), with a piece of sugar pie for dessert. Yum!
In the other direction there are several eateries, notably The Finer Diner and Rhubarb. And if you're in the mood for delicious Nova Scotian lobster (and why wouldn't you be?), Ryer's Lobster is the best: locally sourced and cooked on demand in ocean water, or live so you can cook them yourself.
Overall: the space is recommended.
If I could make one suggestion: new mattresses.
This unit has all the comforts, and a very friendly host, but the outdoor space was unexpectedly under construction. For a summer vacation, this was a big disappointment.
My wife and I recently spend a wonderful week at the Cottage on the Cove in St. Margaret's Bay. The owner and Tom Maguire were excellent and responsive to any of our needs. They made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The cottage, although small, is expanding but it was very new, very clean and contained all we needed for our vacation. The large dock on the bay was a great feature for the property, sunny days and lovely nights on the dock only made the location even better.
A great location like Peggy's Cove and St. Margaret's Bay is hard to beat but especially so when the people like Tom and Donna, and the Owner Tony, treat you so wonderfully.
The property is located 20 minutes from Halifax on the shores of St. Margaret's Bay and offers a beautiful sea view. It feels more like a little house than a cottage as it is equipped with all the amenities of a house. It looks like new and it is very clean and comfortable. There are modern shopping centres with supermarkets, liquor store, and all kinds of shops within 5 to 10 minute drive.
The treatment we received from the property manager and owner was first class. The reception we got from Tom was exceptional; he received us with a complementary bottle of wine, showed us the property and how everything worked, gave us a description of the tourist attractions, restaurants, etc. During our stay he treated us to a lobster dinner for four, invited us to his house for a drink and gave us another bottle of wine. He told us that for anything we needed we were only one phone call away. What a great person.
Tony the owner also dropped by to say hello. Another exceptional guy, he came with a bottle of wine that we shared with him and had a delightful conversation that made us feel at home. During the course of our stay he gave us another 3 bottles of wine.
We really felt that instead of visitors we were being treated like friends. We appreciate the way they treated us and thank them very much.
In was an unforgettable 5 day vacation and Tom and Tony are fine representatives of the human quality of the people of Nova Scotia. We will definitely recommend this place to our friends and hope to go back again.

This cottage has picture windows looking out on a cove with lots of water birds, which you can see from almost every spot in the house, even from the bed in the bedroom. The property has lots of outdoor seating and a wharf over the water. Although right on the busy Peggy's Cove Road, it is very private: the neighbor to the left is a church and cemetery, and the neighbor to the right is on the other side of a small ravine. The house feels brand-new and has the new-clean feel throughout. The bed was very comfortable (firm with just the right pillow-softness) and the linens were high-quality. The kitchen was small but well equipped with higher-end (for a rental property) gas stove and a new refrigerator. The knives were sharp, the pots were surprisingly good quality with heavy bottoms (not teflon), and there were multiple cutting boards. We didn't use the propane grill but appreciated that it was there. The only thing missing: a bottle opener (neither the can opener nor the wine cork could pop a bottle top). Tom was very helpful - he answered all our questions quickly, always answered his phone or called back within minutes, and gave us a lobster dinner with a bottle of pinot grigio which was delicious and an unexpected bonus. The location is fantastic: close enough to Halifax to visit town easily, close to lots of small towns with their tourist attractions, near to the Rum Runners' multi-use rail-trail, close to wonderful places to eat, and still feels like you're out in nature. Be sure to visit the White Sails deli and bakery that's about half a block away - the cakes are amazing (with gluten-free options worth the trip by themselves) and the best oat cakes on the island (in my humble opinion). I'd go back in a heartbeat. Thanks, Tom!
Our stay was very enjoyable! This location was central to sight seeing shopping and hiking. The sunsets were breathtaking. The home was new and very clean. We found the hospitality welcoming and professional.
Cottage on the Cove is perfectly for great day trips to Chester Lunenburg & Mahone Bay all about 40 minutes away on the scenic drive along the ocean great places for taking pictures or dining enjoying great fresh sea food & shopping
