Built in 1945 by a Norwegin imigrant, this cozy one of a kind cabin will provide a peaceful escape from life's hurried pace. When standing on the deck you will feel you are in the middle of the lake whether you are gazing at the stars or enjoying your breakfast, life slows to an enjoyable pace. One bedroom on the main floor with a queen bed and 2 twin beds in the loft. Beautiful Lake Superior stone fireplace. Bath with tub/shower. Charming kitchen with vintage fridge and gas stove. Gas grill, Keurig coffee maker, microwave.
Not only is the cabin warm, cozy and a great place to escape but the location is fantastic! So many amazing and fun places to check out!! Let your adventure begin in the Boundary Waters. The cabin is located about 25 miles from Sawbill Canoe Outfitters in the Boundary Waters. Let the outfitters plan your day trip to the BWCA. You can leave the cabin after breakfast, enjoy a day of canoeing and portaging in the BWCA and still be back to the cabin to relax on the deck for dinner.
Grand Marais, MN is 15 miles north of our cabin on HWY 61 and was just voted "The Coolest Small Town in America". Check out the great art galleries, festivals, and amazing restaurant. Sven and Ole's Pizza, World's Best Donut Shop and the Angry Trout just to name a few of our favorites!
Like to hike? Choose from Temperance River State Park, (9 miles), Cascade River State Park, (4 miles) or Goosberry Falls State Park (40 miles) all with breath taking waterfalls.
Grand Portage National Monument is worth the hour drive North on HWY 61. You will be taken back in time as you tour the fort and learn from the park staff who are dressed in period attire and explain what life was like at the trading fort at the turn of the 18th century.
Plan a day trip to Isle Royale. This island national park offers spectacular fishing, canoeing, hiking and one of the nation's best parks for spotting wildlife. Moose, foxes, waterfowl and wolves all live on the island.
Bring your bikes to check out the Gitchi-Gami paved bike trail (5 miles to trail, you will want to put bikes on your bike rack as we feel this part of HWY 61 is not safe for bikers.) Once you arrive at the trail, you can bike from Lutsen to Tofte, have lunch and then return for a massage at Lutsen Lodge Spa. (16 miles round trip).
Bring your golf clubs and check out Superior National Golf Course. One round of golf and you will know why Golf Digest rated Superior National #1 in the state of Minnesota. It belongs on every golfer's bucket list. Only 5 miles from the cabin.

Lori/Tim purchased this cottage in 2015
We looked at a lot of places on the North Shore and nothing felt quite right until we walked into this cabin. We found the cabin cozy, quaint, rustic, and had that "cabin smell" that we love. The view of Lake Superior is breathtaking. We are thankful and excited to share this piece of heaven with you.
We were looking to get back to the North Shore as we've had an absence from regular fall visits for many years. Found this small, quaint cabin right on the lake and booked it. Great location for fall exploring and we took advantage of many trails nearby and hiked the area. Short jaunt to Lutsen as well as Grand Marais for supplies and restaurants although we had most meals on the deck overlooking the lake.
The cabin is very quaint and warm, perfect for a fall vacation. Beds were comfortable, as were living areas. The kitchen is small with an adorable but vintage fridge with limited capacity (and only a tiny freezer box), limited counter space, and no dishwasher. We stayed a week and enjoy cooking/cooked most meals at the cabin, and it made some things challenging. Lori was a great host and very responsive about check-in and replacing a missing item. The outdoor spaces were beautiful, and the spot on the water was perfect. We were really very sad to have to come back home.
Nice, comfortable, clean cabin. Our bed sheets had been slept in and all the towels were damp. We took everything to Grand Marais Laundry mat. We've rented from VBRO about 8-9 times over last 15 years, dirty bed sheets are nothing new. Matter of fact, we usually take our own sheets just in case. This time we didn't. Oh well. Updated kitchen and bath were nice. Most places the floor is rotting out around the toilet.
Imagine Lake Superior as your backyard. Then imagine great hiking and restaurants within easy driving distance. This great cottage provides all of that and more. One day we watched an awesome lightning storm over the lake while the next day we went on a great hike and enjoyed a fantastic meal at a local restaurant to end the day. This was just one day! The activity we enjoyed most was probably just sitting on the deck and reading or talking. Lori and Tim's cottage was the perfect place to relax and refocus from life's stresses. We will come back again soon.

We had a great stay at Cedar Ridge Cottage on Lake Superior. The weather was prime the whole week. We enjoyed the rendezvous and pow wow at Grand Portage. We also took advantage of opportunities to do day hikes on the Lake Superior Trail and day canoes in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Swimming in Lake Superior was also a joy. We think that Lake Superior is the best swimming lake of all the great lakes, high praise from people who grew up on Lake Michigan.
The cabin was quaint and had most of what we needed to cook fantastic meals. We enjoyed morning coffee overlooking the lake on the deck every day. Even took a few naps in the hammock. Very relaxing!
This was our first venture to Minnesota's North Shore, but it won't be our last! We came to visit the lighthouses to complete the Lake Superior Trail on the U.S. shoreline. Staying at Cedar Ridge provided a central point on HWY 61. We ventured north toward Grand Marais and Grand Portage, and headed south toward Split Rock and Two Harbors on day trips to see the lighthouses and gorgeous waterfalls!
Our hosts suggested Sven and Ollie's for pizza and this restaurant did not disappoint. We also used the bbq for cookouts.
Early mornings and late afternoons/evenings on the deck were quite pleasant. The view of Lake Superior is awesome! I was happy to photograph 3 new bird species while on the property...and, though we saw the majestic eagle several times along Minnesota's North Shore, we were always in the car; so, photographing the eagle wasn't possible.
We would most definitely recommend Cedar Ridge to others and we look forward to visiting Northern Minnesota in the future.
