We took a bit of a hiatus but now we are back hosting. Please come and stay in our beautiful, sunlit space in the heart of historic Providence. The apartment is located in a newly renovated historic home located walking distance to the restaurants of Broadway and Westminster. Laundry, internet, cable, off street parking all included. Close to public transportation. Kitchen with new appliances. Master bedroom with air conditioning. Sleeps 4-5 people comfortably. Pet friendly. Owner Brown University affiliated. Two night stay minimum, thanks!
New Yorker that studied at Brown University and couldn't give up charming Providence.
Allysia M Guy purchased this apartment in 2014
Across the street to my favorite restaurant North as well as many others
If you need an apartment in Providence and your budgeted is limited this apartment may be acceptable. On the plus side, it does have parking behind the house and the neighborhood is walkable. The photos give a reasonable impression of what you can expect. The bed in the bedroom is excellent. For the most part, the apartment is quiet, reasonably clean and comfortably heated. On the minus side, the stairs are steep. Our stay was marred by 3 factors. One was that the onsite person had no idea we were coming. Apparently I should have received an email that told me to call her, but I didn't receive it. Since I reserved and paid a month in advance, I think she should have known we were scheduled. The second was that on our first morning the toilet backed up. The manager's response was to bring us a bottle of Liquid Plummer an hour later. My son-in-law had to deal with it. The third was that on Saturday night the people downstairs had an all-night party. From 4 - 5 a.m. there was a loud argument.
My friend and I very much enjoyed the apartment. It was extremely clean, comfortable and affordable. Tia, the building manager, was super friendly and was available for any requests. She was great at recommending restaurants and things to do around town. The neighborhood was quaint and there were plenty of restaurants within walking distance, as well as being a fairly short walk to downtown. There was an outstanding restaurant (called North) down the street. North also owns a bakery which was across from the house. Again, outstanding! There was a new fried chicken/southern food place across the street that looked wonderful, but we didn't have a chance to try it.
Yes, the three flights of steps were a bit of a challenge with our heavy luggage, but Tia was more than happy to help us. As other folks have mentioned, there was some spackle on the walls, which, I guess if you are picky, could be considered unsightly. The apartment looks like it was recently renovated and the bathroom was beautiful. Again, it was extremely affordable, so I certainly didn't mind that it wasn't the Ritz. Tia made sure we had plenty of sheets, towels, toilet paper, dish soap, etc. And the wifi was great! Coming from a rural area, I was so happy to be able to stream movies. :-)
When we come back to Providence next year, we will be staying here again.
Worked well for what we needed. It was just a place to lay our heads and worked perfectly well for that. 12 min walk to downtown.
The third floor apt. was basically as described although a little spartan. Nice gas range and refrigerator was uncharacteristically stocked with provender. Counter space was minimal but as the room itself is large I think a small rolling prep table could help a lot. The Spackle patches didn't bother me as I am in construction but might annoy others. The great restaurants of Providence are nearby and would recommend this to younger, under 40 folks, who could better negotiate the winding stairs to third floor. Given the reasonable price I'me giving it a three star! Dan
The apartment was spacious but felt like it was mid-construction not at all a vacation rental. Most (if not all) rooms had large wall/ paint patch sections, not even one coat of paint over them to match the rest, there was tape up around sections of walls/ ceilings from paint prep, the shower didn't even feel like it was installed into the space- open wall sections, etc. There weren't bath towels, paper towels or hand towels anywhere in the apartment when we arrived (didn't arrive early or anything). There was only a half roll of toilet paper. Many light bulbs seemed to just be out and not replaced. When we arrived all the windows were open and it was cold but the heat did work.
Amenities: We had to ask where the washer and dryer advertised were located and wait until the path was cleared to get to them in the basement. Be advised to bring your phone/ flashlight as there isn't lighting to the basement. The cable didn't work so no tv even though it was advertised. There was internet but we had to ask for the password and it took awhile to get. There was no dining area that is mentioned in the listing. Towels weren't provided when we arrived.
The neighbor down stairs seems to take care of this apartment and meets the guests (was nice and friendly). She did later bring up towels, blankets and more paper products when we asked.
The apartment felt secure and the neighborhood seemed fine. It was walking distance to some restaurants and included parking behind the building. It's on the third floor (walk up). I felt it was expensive for the quality. I wouldn't stay here again.
This is a 3rd story walk-up apartment (top floor). It is set up with one full bedroom (queen), a second bedroom that contains a wide couch (can sleep on it like a bed), and a TV room with another couch. The apartment had wifi and the owner was very accomodating. The apartment is older; however, it is as portrayed in the pictures.
