About MaryEllen "M.E." and Christopher Spogis

Having lived in Montana for 37 years, my husband Christopher and I welcome you to our Mountain Log Home nestled in the Bridger Mountains, a short drive from downtown Bozeman, Montana. I grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, moved to Montana for college, and have stayed ever since, raising our daughter in the nurturing community of Bozeman. We enjoy all of the culture this area has to offer, and would love to share our favorite spots for skiing, hiking, biking, boating, fishing, eating, libations, theater, shopping, visual art, and any other Montana experiences.

MaryEllen "M.E." and Christopher Spogis purchased this cabin in 1988

What makes this cabin unique

Without a doubt, our log home is town and country at its height! It has the best of both worlds, wherein one is able to truly feel away from it all, yet be a short drive west to the small city of Bozeman, or east to the small, charming Montana towns of Clyde Park or Wilsall, where burgers and beer & rodeos await. The 10 minute, 5.5 mile drive to Bridger Bowl Ski Area and Bohart Ranch Cross Country Ski Center are without reservation an awesome boon! The drives to all of these locations are stellar, with views of numerous jagged mountain peaks, and green, tree swept mountain sides, backset with our Big Sky.

Additionally, I have always loved how our home is just off the paved Brackett Creek Road, yet the driveway is just long enough to feel quite removed and cozy, nestled in the huge fir and pine trees!

A beautiful, old-school western cabin in peaceful seclusion minutes from skiing!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time near Bozeman. The cabin is what people dream of when thinking about vintage Montana and the Wild West. It feels rustic and cozy with a great fire that heats the main room and loft wonderfully. There is wi-fi if you really need it, but what I appreciated even more is the feeling of being unplugged. No TV was a plus. The owners were wonderful in communicating and in being sensitive to small changes that we requested.

People always wonder about the beds - were they comfortable? Well I slept great there, and found the beds to be sturdy yet very comfortable.

I hope to go back again soon. Thank you so much, M.E!

Unreal hospitality!

  • 5 of 5

Previous reviews mentioned the kitchen staples and fully stocked kitchen but we did not expect FOOD! Milk, eggs, butter, cereal, coffee, pizza, bagels, ground beef etc. We brought our own goods but certainly appreciated the effort. Well stocked bathroom as well. 5 boys and a mom enjoyed the accommodations at 5 Firs. 10 minutes from BridgerBowl. Thank you!!

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

Once again, we thoroughly enjoyed our 2nd Christmas at this lovely cabin. Short drive to Bozeman, even shorter to Bridger Bowl. Well stocked cabin. Fantastic sledding/tubing hill. This year a flock of wild turkeys decided to pay us a visit, great sight! Hosts are very willing to be of service.

Thank you M.E. & Christopher.

Very Peaceful and Cozy Thanksgiving!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time during our stay at the 5 Firs cabin! We spent our Thanksgiving here and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. The cabin was just a short 30 minute drive to town even with ice/snow covered roads. Very convenient yet secluded! We enjoyed seeing several Mule Deer right outside the window as we ate our Thanksgivng dinner. There is limited cell service and no TV which made for a great bonding and family interaction weekend full of games and stories! Overall we had a great stay here and the house accommodated the 5 of us very comfortably! Thank you for the stay!

Owner's Response: Yes indeed, it continually warms our hearts, when guests appreciate and utilize our 5 Firs Cabin's amenities! That 'over-the-river-and-through-the-woods' feel, yet so close to Bozeman's hub-bub, gives it its charm. So happy it worked so well for you 5!

Awesome get away!

  • 5 of 5

If you need a place to get away from it all but still be close enough to shopping and entertainment this is the place! Both people and pet friendly this log home is a gorgeous drive up Bridger Canyon, we hiked in the mornings right out the back door and spent the afternoons exploring Bozeman. The house is well equipped, warm and welcoming. The only neighbors we encountered were a flock of turkeys, several deer and a pesky squirrel.

Any season of the year offers a wealth of recreational pursuits from our log home.

Kick back and RELAX on the sunny decks and enjoy the occasional sightings of moose, deer and elk that wander through the area. Numerous species of birds frequent the surrounding woods, including wild Turkeys, Stellar Jays, and Crossbills.

HIKING opportunities can begin at your doorstep. Or, take a short drive to the pristine waters of Fairy Lake. From the nearby Trailhead, ascend Sacajawea Peak, the highest Peak in the Bridger Mountains. From the summit, seven mountain ranges are distinctly in view. Wildflowers abound along this moderately easy trail.

FISHING opportunities abound in the area with RIVERS such as the Blue Ribbon Gallatin, Madison, and Yellowstone Rivers close enough for enjoyable day trips. Of course, RAFTING these rivers are fun options as Day Trips for the family and Adrenalin Junkies alike.

An excursion to Yellowstone National Park is under 2 hours away.

Soak in the natural HOT SPRINGS of the Boiling River in Yellowstone, or take in one of the many Hot Springs closer to Bozeman.

MOUNTAIN BIKERS will love being just over 2 miles from some of the best trails in the Bozeman area. There are several locations in Bozeman that can completely outfit your Mountain Biking and Road Biking needs.

Would you like to see a real GHOST TOWN? There are several, including Virginia City and Nevada City.

WINTER finds you conveniently located just 6 miles from Bridger Bowl and even closer to Bohart Cross Country Ski Center. Or, just strap on snowshoes or cross-country skis and explore the 21 acres from your doorstep.

Farther afield, you can easily access BIG SKY, MOONLIGHT, or LONE MOUNTAIN for a day of skiing.

Late Spring brings the unique sport of "CRUST CRUSIN" on skate skis to an area of Yellowstone Park, just a little farther up the road.
