About MaryEllen "M.E." and Christopher Spogis

Having lived in Montana for 37 years, my husband Christopher and I welcome you to our Mountain Log Home nestled in the Bridger Mountains, a short drive from downtown Bozeman, Montana. I grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, moved to Montana for college, and have stayed ever since, raising our daughter in the nurturing community of Bozeman. We enjoy all of the culture this area has to offer, and would love to share our favorite spots for skiing, hiking, biking, boating, fishing, eating, libations, theater, shopping, visual art, and any other Montana experiences.

MaryEllen "M.E." and Christopher Spogis purchased this house in 1988

What makes this house unique

Without a doubt, our log home is town and country at its height! It has the best of both worlds, wherein one is able to truly feel away from it all, yet be a short drive west to the small city of Bozeman, or east to the small, charming Montana towns of Clyde Park or Wilsall, where burgers and beer & rodeos await. The 10 minute, 5.5 mile drive to Bridger Bowl Ski Area and Bohart Ranch Cross Country Ski Center are without reservation an awesome boon! The drives to all of these locations are stellar, with views of numerous jagged mountain peaks, and green, tree swept mountain sides, backset with our Big Sky.

Additionally, I have always loved how our home is just off the paved Brackett Creek Road, yet the driveway is just long enough to feel quite removed and cozy, nestled in the huge fir and pine trees!

Awesome get away!

  • 5 of 5

If you need a place to get away from it all but still be close enough to shopping and entertainment this is the place! Both people and pet friendly this log home is a gorgeous drive up Bridger Canyon, we hiked in the mornings right out the back door and spent the afternoons exploring Bozeman. The house is well equipped, warm and welcoming. The only neighbors we encountered were a flock of turkeys, several deer and a pesky squirrel.

wonderful house and setting

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this house for the week of Sept. 24-Oct. 2, 2016. Everything about the stay was delightful, and the owners were very easy to communicate with. The house is a clean, comfortable log home with plenty of space and interesting Western decor. It has a well-equipped kitchen, and the owners left a generous assortment of staples and other food, which we really appreciated. The large and small decks afford great views of the surrounding countryside. Wild turkeys were our favorite visitors, though a feisty chipmunk scampered on the big deck frequently. (Tip: put your car in the garage to ensure no turkey poop gets on it!) With Bozeman not that far away, this place gives you access to a small city with all its amenities, yet provides a peaceful retreat in the country. Note we did well with text messages, but our AT&T phones let us down with calls (apparently Verizon works best here). We didn't mind going without phone calls; coupled with no TV and plenty of reading material left by the owners, we could really relax. The five stars are definitely deserved!

Had a great weekend get away!

Had a great stay at a nice cabin. Close enough to town to be able to go eat but far enough away for it to be peaceful. Saw lots of wildlife and enjoyed our stay!

Five Firs has a perfect location and tons of character!

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about the cabin! Tons of wildlife and gorgeous views. Proximity to Bridger Bowl and town was perfect. It was such a great place to come home to after our days exploring in MT. Tukeys, elk, antelope and mule deer were all roaming the area and it was lovely! Having some amenities at the cabin and not having to buy all the little things at the store was a huge plus.

Where do you live?

One of the best cabins ever!!!!

  • 5 of 5

So private, yet a hop, skip, jump away from Bozeman. We took in all the Bozeman Sweet Pea Festivities. Your cabin provided the homey feel we and our little pooch, Toto, needed on our 3 week Montana getaway! We drove up to Fairy Lake; even though the rutty gravel roads were challenging, it's worth it....one of the most beautiful lakes we've seen, and being from Minnesota, 'Land of 10,000 Lakes', we've seen enough to compare.

If we come back, we'll certainly check out the availability of 5 Firs!

Thanks much for your hospitality,

The Rolfers, and Toto.

P.S. Tell us if you decide to sell it, lol.

Owner's Response: So appreciate your heart warming review! Yes, Fairly Lake and surrounding areas so magical, yet so close to bustling Bozeman. Indeed, having 3 weeks to explore both 'town and country', a beautiful balance, allowing time to fully absorb. We would most enthusiastically welcome you and Toto back, hoping to have the opportunity to host you again. "M.E." and Christopher Spogis
