Enjoy the peace and seclusion of The Outpost; the river so close it feels like part of the cabin decor! The setting is at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and at the edge of the Cherokee National Forest. A creek and pond on the property enhance the experience.

Otters provide occasional entertainment as they fish in the pond, creek and river. Evenings are best spent gazing at the stars and enjoying the songs of frogs and cicadas. Wildlife abounds!

The cabin has 3 bedrooms and there are 2 futons for additional sleeping. Each bedroom has French doors that open up to the Pond Porch, so members of your party can meet each morning with coffee cup in hand, ready to reminisce about adventures experienced and to plan for your day ahead.

Food tastes better while dining outside and taking in the surroundings! And though you may think you will want to forgo the culinary labors while on vacation, you may decide otherwise when you see the view from the kitchen.

Seasonal produce stands are within 4 miles of the property Those fresh vegetables are within minutes available for the grill!

A 12 mile drive on country roads and you arrive in Jonesborough, the oldest town in Tennessee. Storytelling is a huge attraction here and in fact, the town hosts the International Storytelling Festival. Unique dining venues and shops. Home to a local brewery and a distillery. Very nice grocery stores and a local Farmer's Market.

There are many destinations you will enjoy within the Cherokee National Forest. Clarks Creek hiking trailheads are within a couple miles from property and several other trailheads are very short distances from the cabin in the forest. The Nolichuckey River provides many activities. North Carolina is a short drive and there you can enjoy the Pisgah National Forest, the Paint Creek Corridor, (great for bicycling), and the French Broad River. Hot Springs is one of our favorite destinations, as is Asheville!

There are local family restaurants within miles of the cabin. Numerous activities and attractions are within a short driving distance, including white water rafting, kayaking, fly fishing, zip lines, bicycling, hiking, mineral baths in Hot Springs, The Appalachian Trail, Nascar Bristol Motor Speedway, Gatlinburg, Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, Biltmore Estates, vineyards, microbreweries, (schedule a Brews Cruise trip!), beautiful lakes; too much to mention here!

The Outpost provides for a soulful experience. Words seem empty; pictures do not do it justice.

About Alex Knight

The Outpost became a joint venture between Ed and Alex in 2013. Once childhood sweethearts, we were reunited 30 years later to become the dearest of friends. As Ed made frequent visits to the area he quickly fell in love with the countryside, mountains and people, but especially with the Nolichuckey River, also affectionately known as "Alex's River". It was blessed fate that this property presented itself. We look forward to sharing all that The Outpost offers in peace, solitude, beauty and nature.

Alex Knight purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Alex Knight chose Tennessee

A true get-away-from-it all destination, but a central location for many attractions. Explore the area one day, relax in the hammock or with some fishing or floating the next. Locally owned restaurants are within miles of the cabin if you want to escape from the cooking as well! It can be what you want it to be..........

The Outpost is far from fancy. It is rustic and comfortable and most importantly, clean and well cared for. We want you to feel at ease and at home.

What makes this cabin unique

Truly secluded and private with gorgeous views from every angle. You will struggle with which "spot" is your favorite! At times you have the sense you are in a treehouse as you watch the river flow from the porches and decks. I truly believe if you were to experience The Outpost, you would feel it's pull on your heart long after your departure.

Great Experience

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a 3 night bachelor weekend and the house was perfect. Secluded but not inconvenient. Had everything we needed. The outdoor porches and covered pavilion are great. Alex was great to work with and extremely helpful. I would definitely go back again.

Can we stay forever?!

  • 5 of 5

Our family - my husband, 2 teenage boys along with 2 of their friends, our black lab Sadie and me all spent 7 days at this piece of heaven. The amount of space outside and inside was perfect for all of our romping and roaming boys! We spent most of our time outside because there were so many awesome places to be. We were in awe from the time we pulled up. The pictures just can not begin to do justice to this place. The house was so clean and well supplied. We spent so much time out on the decks. The bugs were not bad at all. No problems with mosquitoes. Not one tick! We fished every day. My husband and I caught 17 fish in 40 minutes as the sun was going down. Mostly small mouth bass. The water was high enough for the two younger teens to kayak a little bit in the creek that runs beside the cabin. We saw the otter in the pond several times. There is a huge snapper in the pond as well that kept us entertained. It seemed as if someone was in the hammock at all times. It was definitely a favorite spot. We hiked to Sills Branch waterfall which is in Cherokee National Park. The road to this park is less than a mile from the cabin and it is only a 1 mile hike to the waterfall. We spent so much time hiking there and exploring the creeks. Our lab loved the creeks and all the water. She also loved to fetch sticks out of the river at the cabin. She has been a little mopey since we came home! She misses her Tennessee home. All of the boys brought home their walking sticks they found while hiking as a way to bring a little piece of the mountains home with us. We made breakfast every morning and used the grill at night. I took the guys to a river access and they tubed down the river right to the cabin. All of the boys would gather in the TV room and watch a late night movie together every night. We ate at 3 restaurants that were amazing. Farmer's Daughter. Only open on weekends so plan ahead. You won't regret it. We visited the Farmers market beside the restaurant. We also ate at Mountain View- awesome catfish. The food was great. We also ate at Pizza Plus in Jonesborough TN - all you can eat pizza with 4 teenage boys was a great hit. They had to eat there twice! We went to the old - timey theater in downtown Erwin to watch a movie. We also went to the water park in Jonesborough. Most of the time we spent at the cabin relaxing and spending time together. We were all so content we didn't want to leave. Truly an unforgettable spot that we hope to revisit again

The Outpost was a great retreat for our group of seven adults. It rained most of the weekend but there was plenty of room for us the relax and not be too crowded. The kitchen and bedrooms were perfect size and had all the right accommodations.

No more hotels for us! We loved our stay at Outpost having come down from Pa to see our daughter . We loved the river literally right off the deck. Look forward to staying next year! Alex was very accessible for all our inquiries. We didn't get to utilize all that the place/decks had to offer and we hope to kayak the flowing river next time. It is true the photos don't show the awesomeness of the property!!!Clean and well stocked!! Thank you, Alex for sharing!!
