Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bath On The River With Extensive Outdoor Living Spaces.

Enjoy the peace and seclusion of The Outpost. The river so close it feels like part of the cabin decor! The setting is at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and at the edge of the Cherokee National Forest. A creek and pond on the property enhance the experience.

Centrally located to Jonesborough, Tri-Cities, Greeneville, and Erwin. Perfect day trips to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Asheville and Hot Springs, NC, Abingdon, VA.

Rustic, clean and welcoming cabin with three comfortable bedrooms and well appointed kitchen. There are two common areas each with a futon for additional sleeping if desired. Each bedroom has French doors that open up to the Pond Porch, so members of your party can meet each morning with coffee cup in hand, ready to reminisce about adventures experienced and plan for your day ahead.

Food tastes better while dining outside and taking in the surroundings and settings in which to do so at The Outpost abound! And though you may think you will want to forgo the culinary labors while on vacation, you may decide otherwise when you see the view from the kitchen.

Numerous outdoor living spaces include decks and porches and even a screened-in area. The River Porch tends to be the focal point of the cabin. Rocking chairs provide the perfect spot from which you can lose yourself while watching the Nolichuckey flow steadily by. The Lido Deck is partially covered with grill and food preparation area covered to retreat from the rain and, oh, the wonderful sound on the metal roof and in the river combined when it does rain! What a bonus to experience rain at The Outpost! The Pond Porch off the bedrooms not only overlooks the pond but also provides a 'wide-angle view' of the foothills, fields, creek and river as well. You may enjoy watching the otters play in the pond from this vantage point, especially in the early morning. The Pavilion is screened with views of the pond and river and has ceiling fans and a fireplace. The Lower Deck off The Pavilion is a favorite, (and is commonly referred to as 'Alex's Spot'). Enjoy ample and comfortable outdoor furniture and dining sets, camp chairs, gas grill and charcoal grill, hammock, swing, cots, wood for campfires ........and the list goes on. All for your perfect, idyllic, lounging vacation on 8 1/2 acres.

Take advantage of fishing, floating, and kayaking right outside your door. Kingfishers, great herons and wild ducks frequent the pond. There have been a few bear sightings by guests. Deer and turkey are frequently seen feeding in the fields. The otters go through phases of constant, out and out showing off as they fish in the pond, creek and river!! Evenings are best spent gazing at the stars and enjoying the songs of frogs and cicadas. Don't forget the smore's fixin's! I provide the bonfire wood; it's in the barn, but I probably already have the kindling wood built up for you! Many, many water birds will be enjoyed. You are just downright blessed and golden if you witness a bald eagle or osprey feed in the river in front of you!

A 12 mile drive on country roads and you arrive in quaint and well preserved Jonesborough, the oldest town in Tennessee. Storytelling is a huge attraction here and in fact, the town hosts the International Storytelling Festival. Being the oldest town in the the state there are many historical structures and the very impressive Visitors Center has information on tours. There are unique dining venues and shops, a local brewery and a distillery. Also very nice grocery stores and a local Farmer's Market.

Just a short drive as well is the historic town of Greeneville, home of Andrew Jackson, our 17th president. There are tours of downtown Greeneville, most with focus on President Jackson's life. Greeneville stakes claim as second oldest town in Tennessee, (though many in Rogersville would adamantly dispute this). Worth the trip alone are the many beautiful churches, including "the cannonball church". You would be amazed how many Greenevillians know this church only by this name. The church survived the Civil War with a cannonball lodged in the brick of the front wall on Main Street. It is the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

There are many destinations you will enjoy within the Cherokee National Forest, including hiking trails, waterfalls and picnic areas. Clarks Creek trailheads are within a couple miles from the property and several other trailheads are very short distances from the cabin in the forest. The Nolichuckey River abounds with possibilities for activities. Viking Mountain provides a breathtaking vista and the Paint Creek Corridor is a beautiful drive and great for bicycling as you make your way to NC and Hot Springs!

North Carolina is a short drive and there you can enjoy the Pisgah National Forest, , and the French Broad River. Hot Springs is one of our favorite destinations, as is Asheville.

There are local family restaurants within a few miles of the cabin as are seasonal produce stands. Those vegetables are close and almost ready for the grill! Stores are very convenient for last minute needs. Grocery shopping is about 12 miles away.

Numerous activities and attractions are within a short driving distance, including white water rafting, kayaking, fly fishing, zip lines, bicycling, hiking, mineral baths in Hot Springs, The Appalachian Trail, Nascar Bristol Motor Speedway, Gatlinburg, Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, Biltmore Estates, vineyards, microbreweries, (schedule a Brews Cruise trip!), beautiful lakes; too much to mention here!

The Outpost is a tobacco-free property.

Pets must be pre-approved and are done so on a pet by pet basis.

There is an additional charge for parties over 6 and maximum guest capacity is 8. Please see rates section for details.

Perfect mountain getaway cabin and location!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was great for my family of 6. We had some great bonding time around the bonfire, river, and pond. Cabin is very clean and organized. The homeowner Alex is a sweetheart. Couldn’t have asked for anything more.

What A great Place and a Wonderful Host!!!!

  • 5 of 5

WE loved our stay and it was a Great place for the family to get together. Alex welcomed us and made everything so easy. We hope to visit again sometime soon!

That weekend our family rented 4 different properties through all different sites. Renting with Alex was by far the BEST! The place was so clean and more than we expected! She had everything set wonderfully.

Perfect getaway to relax, unwind, and have some fun!

  • 5 of 5

This is my husband and I second trip to the Outpost. Coming back for the second time was just as magical as the first. We got to turn off all our gadgets for a week and just enjoy nature and true relaxation. This property has so much from the beautiful river to swim and fish in, the multiple outdoor spaces (we love the lido deck), the firepit, well-accommodated kitchen, and more. We cooked, made smores, played games, splashed in the river, and just plain old had a blast. Highly recommend a trip to the Outpost. The cabin is very clean, Alex provides almost everything you need, and the location is one of a kind. Can't wait to come back!!

We enjoyed our 2nd year at the Outpost this past week and we were thoroughly pleased once again!

  • 5 of 5

The Outpost is amazing! All the comforts of home and beautiful sights and sounds! We had a lot of porch sitting, listening to rain, but we had ample time in the sun and on the river, kayaking, tubing and fishing. We love the location! We love the tranquility!

Right Place at the Right Time

  • 5 of 5

Our family lives in north central PA and our daughter-in law wanted to visit her father who lives north of Erwin, TN. I started a vacation rental search and the Outpost came up, what a wonderful surprise. The house is about five miles from our daughter-in-law’s father and we were all able to spend the week together. The house was more than we expected and the peaceful privacy of the location was a blessing. We usually vacation on the Outer Banks, NC where the cottages are close together with crowds of people and the price of the rental is tripled. Even though we did not get to meet Alex she became a special friend and she helped quickly with our inquiries. At the last minute Alex even accepted our son’s two dogs so they were not left behind in a kennel, thank you so much Alex. The mornings were a special time watching the otter’s in the pond and the river porch was very relaxing in the evening as the setting sun reflected on the river. The wild ducks will always be a special memory! The house was very spacious and the rooms well kept, neat and clean. The kitchen had everything we needed and was the best supplied rental we have ever stayed in. My husband and I love American history and there are plenty of historical places in the area to visit, Jonesborough was a great day trip. The whole family took a day trip to see friends in Black Mountain, NC and all spent the day “highbanking” for gold at the Lucky Strike Gold Mine south of Marion … yes we did find GOLD! There was so much to do but there was not enough time to fit it all in. When our daughter-in-law wants to visit her father in Tenn. again we are hoping the Outpost will be available for us to stay in, we all want to return. Thank you, Alex, for sharing your beautiful Outpost with others. Carol P.

About Alex Knight

The Outpost became a joint venture between Ed and Alex in 2013. Once childhood sweethearts, we were reunited 30 years later to become the dearest of friends. As Ed made frequent visits to the area he quickly fell in love with the countryside, mountains and people, but especially with the Nolichuckey River, also affectionately known as "Alex's River". It was blessed fate that this property presented itself. We look forward to sharing all that The Outpost offers in peace, solitude, beauty and nature.

Alex Knight purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Alex Knight chose Jonesborough

A true get-away-from-it all destination, but a central location for many attractions. Explore the area one day, relax in the hammock or with some fishing or floating the next. Locally owned restaurants are within miles of the cabin if you want to escape from the cooking as well! It can be what you want it to be..........

(Perhaps enjoy cooking for a change! You can watch the river as you do!)

The Outpost is far from fancy. It is rustic and comfortable and most importantly, clean and well cared for. We want you to feel at ease and at home.

So come experience what is The Outpost. The solace and the peace. Maybe just plain fun that perhaps you haven't allowed yourself to have in some time. Disconnect and de-VICE. Connect with those you love including yourself. Just as importantly, connect with nature and all that it has to offer.

The Outpost provides for a soulful experience. Words seem empty; pictures do not do it justice.

What makes this cabin unique

Truly secluded and private with serene views from every angle. You will struggle with which "spot" is your favorite! At times you have the sense you are in a treehouse as you watch the river flow from the porches and decks. I truly believe if you were to experience The Outpost, you would feel it's pull on your heart long after your departure.
