|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Enjoy the peace and seclusion of The Outpost; the river so close it feels like part of the cabin decor! The setting is at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and at the edge of the Cherokee National Forest. A creek and pond on the property enhance the experience.
Rustic, clean and welcoming cabin, well appointed kitchen, screened pavilion with fireplace and ceiling fans, the Lido Deck with ceiling fans, lower deck, River Porch, Pond Porch, gas grill, comfortable outdoor furniture, large lawn/fields, wood for campfires, hammock, swing, and the list goes on. All for your perfect vacation on 8 1/2 acres. For the full river experience kayaks can be provided for $40 per boat per stay.
Enjoy fishing, floating, and kayaking right outside your door. There are regular sightings of deer and turkey and an occasional bear! Otters provide occasional entertainment as they fish in the pond and river. Evenings are best spent gazing at the stars and enjoying the songs of frogs and cicadas. Wildlife abounds!
The cabin has 3 bedrooms and there are 2 futons for additional sleeping. Each bedroom has French doors that open up to the Pond Porch, so members of your party can meet each morning with coffee cup in hand, ready to reminisce about adventures experienced and to plan for your day ahead.
Food tastes better while dining outside and taking in the surroundings! And though you may think you will want to forgo the culinary labors while on vacation, you may think otherwise when you see the view from the kitchen.
You will be a short distance from Jonesborough, the oldest town in Tennessee. Storytelling is a huge attraction here and the town hosts the International Storytelling Festival. Unique dining venues and shops. Home to a local brewery and a distillery.
Greeneville is also a short drive and is the home of our 17th president, Andrew Johnson. History abounds in this small town.
There are many destinations you will enjoy within the Cherokee National Forest. The Nolichuckey River provides many activities. North Carolina is a short drive and there you can enjoy the Pisgah National Forest, the Paint Creek Corridor, (great for bicycling), and the French Broad River. Hot Springs is one of our favorite destinations, as is Asheville!
There are local family restaurants within miles of the cabin. Numerous activities and attractions are within a short driving distance, including white water rafting, kayaking, fly fishing, zip lines, bicycling, hiking, mineral baths in Hot Springs, The Appalachian Trail, Nascar Bristol Motor Speedway, Gatlinburg, Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, Biltmore Estates, vineyards, microbreweries, (schedule a Brews Cruise trip!), beautiful lakes; too much to mention here!
The Outpost provides for a soulful experience. Words seem empty; pictures do not do it justice.

The Outpost became a joint venture between Ed and Alex in 2013. Once childhood sweethearts, we were reunited 30 years later to become the dearest of friends. As Ed made frequent visits to the area he quickly fell in love with the countryside, mountains and people, but especially with the Nolichuckey River, also affectionately known as "Alex's River". It was blessed fate that this property presented itself. We look forward to sharing all that The Outpost offers in peace, solitude, beauty and nature.
Alex Knight purchased this cabin in 2013
A true get-away-from-it all destination, but a central location for many attractions. Explore the area one day, relax in the hammock or with some fishing or floating the next. Locally owned restaurants are within miles of the cabin if you want to escape from the cooking as well! One of our favorites is The Farmer's Daughter, a Mennonite establishment with family style dining. Pop's Place has a great feel for the area; good food, good service, and the best breakfast around!. Prepare yourself to step back in time.
The Outpost is far from fancy. It is rustic and comfortable and most importantly, clean and well cared for. We want you to feel at ease and at home.
Truly secluded and private with gorgeous views from every angle. You will struggle with which "spot" is your favorite! At times you have the sense you are in a treehouse as you watch the river flow from the porches and decks. I truly believe if you were to experience The Outpost, you would feel it's pull on your heart long after your departure.
Owner is very kind and thoughtful. Very comfortable, clean, and had everything we needed! Will definitely go back!!
No more hotels for us! We loved our stay at Outpost having come down from Pa to see our daughter . We loved the river literally right off the deck. Look forward to staying next year! Alex was very accessible for all our inquiries. We didn't get to utilize all that the place/decks had to offer and we hope to kayak the flowing river next time. It is true the photos don't show the awesomeness of the property!!!Clean and well stocked!! Thank you, Alex for sharing!!
One of the greatest experiences our group spent together. We couldn't have had a better relaxing weekened!
We booked this cabin for a long weekend while in town for a wedding nearby. This cabin was a beautiful, relaxing retreat from the hustle and bustle of wedding preparations and activities. We LOVED all the outdoor spaces, but the screened in porch area was the most popular spot! This cabin was a great place for old friends to meet up...just wish we could've stayed longer! Alex was a great host and was very responsive to any questions. We would love to come back!!!
From the first moment we pulled up to the Outpost my husband and I knew we made the perfect choice for our week long retreat away from it all. Before we even got there Alex was so helpful promptly answering all questions. She was a gracious hostess and very kind. We had no problems during our stay, however, I know she would have been right there to help if we had. We spent our week fishing and swimming in the river, playing games, making fires and enjoying all of the wonderful outdoor spaces. Cooking was so fun and the kitchen is fully equipped. The cabin was very clean and the bed was so comfy. It is imposiible to describe the magic and beauty of this place. We will be back next summer. Can't wait to see the Outpost again!
We stayed at The Outpost so we could visit family that live nearby. We wanted something that would meet our needs, this experience exceeded our expectations! We loved every bit, our favorite is the convenient access to the river! We were comfortable no matter where we rested, whether it was the porch, the swing, the chair overlooking the water, the upper deck or the pavilion! Love the Outpost and all it offers!!!!
