Ok

The cottage was as described except that the second bedroom is loft and it was not possible for us to use it- I think that should be in the description.

We were actually comfortable and fine for the weekend.

Owner's Response: Dear Penny, Thank you for staying with us. We want to clarify that both the listing and the cottage manual we sent to you a week before check-in mention the loft. There is a photo in the listing labeled "loft space" and another photo shows the ladder to the loft. We are sorry that you did not understand that the second bedroom was a loft, but it is clearly stated in multiple places and clearly visible in the photos. In 3 years of renting our cottage, no other guest has been unclear about this point.

Secluded & Quaint!

  • 4 of 5

Great little cabin off the beaten path...very cute cabin, myself, wife, and 4 other people stayed in this cabin to attend a wedding which was about 2 minutes away. 1 Full bathroom, plenty of hot water and the kitchen was furnished with cookware, and glasses..perfect! The temperature was about 80 degrees that weekend...but the cabin stayed a cool and crisp 70...from all the shade from the trees...but the cabin has no AC, only heat...which is fine for us because they provided a fan for us...The only 2 issues that came up for us was the hot water had a sulfer smell to it, which when I contacted Francois, they asked when we were not going to be there so they can come and remedy the issue...which we were only staying for one night so wasent a big deal that they needed to come out right then...

The 2nd issue was the cabin listed that it sleeps 6...but you have to read the WHOLE listing to find that it really sleeps 5 adults and 1 child...so just be aware of that as well...we ended being a blowup mattress which solved that issue.

The owners were nothing but helpful and made sure we had a pleasant stay...we would stay here again, but with fewer people.

Rural Country Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Property is as described, rural and rustic. This is not a fancy place, but was comfortable and a good value. We happened to stay on an extremely hot weekend, 90 plus degrees with high humidity. There were some fans, but no AC, so if being cool this should be factored in for a summer stay. We choose this cottage instead of paying extremely high priced hotels in the Great Barrington area while attending a wedding which was 15 mins away. Would stay here again.

Sweet rustic cabin

  • 4 of 5

Great meadows, forest and creek for kids to wander. Cozy cabin. Loved the wood-burning stove and the fire ring.

Rustic, quiet and peaceful

  • 4 of 5

Pluses-- peace and quiet, totally private spot, large picture windows facing meadows and woods; very comfortable bed, fresh flowers, plenty of towels and amenities for two people, variety of nice touches; info re: area, books and games. Disappointments-- not really "on" the river, we had expected to see or at least hear the river, some evidence of mice (hard to prevent so be careful with food), some spots (in kitchen/bathroom) could have been cleaner. We didn't need the loft, but if you do, be aware that few adult humans could stand up in any part of the loft. Wishes -- screen door, screens on more windows esp. bathroom, a small bureau or ways to hang things in bedroom, a small roasting pan, a sharp knife or two, and a toaster (we mostly cooked our own meals). Overall, it was a lovely weekend away from everything and about 30-40 minutes from Tanglewood. You do need to be fully prepared to not have cell phone service most anywhere in the area. Surrounding area is truly beautiful with spectacular country side vistas.

Wonderfully hidden cabin in the woods

  • 4 of 5

We reserved this cabin because of the location and the fact that the owners will accept pets. First, the location is perfect if you want to get away from everything, including cable TV and neighbors, because you will not find either one at this beautiful little cabin. It was just the two of us but it sleeps more in the loft, which we didn't even go up to check out, but looked comfy. Our dogs (two yorkies) loved the place. There is a large window facing the woods out back and the dogs were parked right in front it waiting for wildlife to stroll by. Didn't see any wildlife or even any mosquitoes which was surprising given that we were in the woods. Tanglewood was our main reason for traveling and the cabin was the perfect location for attending a concert. The drive took us about 25 minutes. Warning for those planning on using the cabin to cook meals. There is no microwave or toaster. No problem, just be aware before you pack microwave popcorn! The owners left us a beautiful arrangement of flowers on the dining room table and that was such a nice welcome. The shower worked fantastic with good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Loved the towels! There is an iron and half-board in the bathroom. Good to know if you have to pack linen for a summer outing. We have Verizon and got good cell reception and our Sirius XM radio worked just fine too. Worried about no A/C, but there was no need to worry. It was a hot day, but the cabin stayed cool. Plus there is a stand up fan if needed. We did not need to contact the owners for anything because they have thought of everything. We had a wonderful time staying in this cabin and will be back for another Tanglewood weekend next year.
