Most Memorable Valentine Weekend!

  • 4 of 5

Five minutes east of Boerne, TX, nestled in the hill country, our 30 Acre Ranch B&B getaway. At first my wife and I did not know what to make of the property as it was a little rough around the edges, with restoration / remodeling, and a little TLC being needed here and there, still we were away from the hustle and bustle of the big city of Houston. Once we settled in, we finally met with our main host “Vicky”, and what was to be a heart welcoming reception, which exceeded our expectations as she continued to woo us throughout our stay, as did her husband Mickey and father in law Abel. Note: thank you Vicky for working up the surprise I requested upon our arrival for my wife (Yellow Roses and Chocolate covered Strawberries).

We settled into our cottage, which was quaint and cozy; just what my wife and I needed, some alone time. Upon our daily awakening, we walked the beautiful property, feeding their horses, goats, and donkeys as they warmed up to us. This was only to be followed up by an amazing breakfast; freshly made pastry and a Texas size country breakfast (food just kept on coming). The meals and presentation was amazing (Vicky is a Chef from Cordon Blue in France), which was complemented by their continued hospitality and attention to detail (Note: my wife and I hold genuine hospitality to the highest standards, which they exceeded). We then transferred to the barn house for our final 2 nights (remodeled to be the addition to their existing properties on the ranch, which included a newly added bistro). Again, their hospitality continued to supersede our expectation by the attention to catering provided by this most welcoming family. To top things off, our host also prepared and cooked for us on Valentines evening (4 course meal: seafood for my wife and beef & pork for me; dinner under the stars). The setting and the food was most excellent – food just kept coming and our stomachs got bigger as we faded into the night. Overall it will be hard to outdo the amount of attention given by this family and their B&B. Thank you Vicky, Mickey, and Abel for making this our most memorable valentine’s day to date.

PS. Thank you Abel for serenading us over our last day of breakfast and guitar lessons you shared with me.

Not overly Impressed

  • 3 of 5

Booking, went well, spoke to Vicky about all accommodations prior to visit. Since there were 3 of us, she said there was some sort of loft that our daughter could sleep in and we would still have plenty of room. Then day before leaving, I get a call, Vicky is saying that there was a double booking and says that they will upgrade us to the Honeymoon Suite, no charge.

Arriving, was ok, we were tired from driving 7+hrs. We were met by Micky, who walked us around showing us the rest of the property. We never saw Vicky once during our stay, which is fine but that is the only person i spoke to prior to arriving. No key to the room was ever given to us (didnt bother us too much, just felt weird that it wasnt even asked if we would like one.)

The property was nice, wilderness, animals around all over property, goats, horses, donkeys, dog. My husband loved waking up the hill and watching all the deer.

The suite was not all it was talked up to be. It was a room, bathroom, and shared kitchen with the neighbor room, which happened to have someone living there. They had brought in another bed for my daughter, which made the room too small. The biggest thing talked up in the suite was the jetted bathtub. Well when we went to take a bath from a long day of vaca fun. It was not relaxing at all ... the water smelt terrible, like rotten eggs, i know it was just cause of it being well/septic but holy cannoli it stunk to high heaven! Morning came, the neighbor had coffee made, felt bad drinking her coffee but we needed our coffee so we did, and made more. She poured it out! The neighbors dog woke us up 2 mornings. After long days we were going to bed around 10p and other guest were up on deck visiting loudly.

This being the first time using VRBO, I was not Impressed.

A month after vaca, I had to email and ask about my deposit that was never refunded. It has been refunded now.

While there we went to San Antonio, SeaWorld, and drove 3hrs to Padre Island. It was a nice drive to and from each day. One night we stopped in Boerne, TX to have dinner, and the town was having a Movie night on the court house lawn. It was a very nice comfortable night!

Owner's Response: Thank you for reviewing us – we are pleased your booking went well, your arrival went ok and you all felt “the property was nice”, you liked the “wilderness” (the ranch), and enjoyed our animals around the property (goats, horses, donkeys & our dog), as well as loved watching all the deer, and it was a good central spot for all your vacationing. We are surprised you express any confusion about the 2 different accommodations we offered. Yes, I did offer a lovely mid-sized stand-alone cabin with 1 bedroom for you + a little loft with bed for your daughter & plenty of room, with a big kitchen, living/dining room, deck with picnic table, screened in porch, etc., which rents for $140/night + tax, as it would be the best fit for your family. However you all chose to rent 1 room which is more economical in the Cozy Cottage That is where you rented and where you are posing your review right now. There could be no confusion what you were renting since in the description is clearly states: “rent 1 room for $100 or entire house for $250 (3 rooms)”. You paid $100/night TOTAL. When I offered to upgrade you to the Honeymoon Suite at no charge, I said it was a larger room (which it is), with a 60” High Definition TV, private bath and Jacuzzi tub (which it has) and you would only share the kitchen with 1 lady (which you did), and gave you the VRBO listing so you could read about it and see the 20 pictures. I remember how very pleased you were when you accepted and thanked me. We’re also surprised you expressed any dissatisfaction, since when my husband Micky showed you your accommodations, you all said you were pleased, that they were very pretty and thanked him. BTW, Micky did leave your key in your room by your door. So sorry to hear you were disappointed to not meet me, as I was here the entire time on-property cooking and tending to guests. See, when we have several check-ins at the same time, we both handle them so no one waits and who checks each guest in just depends on who gets free. If you had told Micky or even called at any time, I would have gladly come share some time with you or resolve any concern. As to the water, that’s intriguing as well. We are on a well system and the water does have minerals – but no different than anyone else in the Hill Country. We have a double filtration system on our wells, purified with potassium instead of salt, for best water quality. We had 35 guests + family that weekend, and no one said anything about issues with the w

Cabin stay

  • 5 of 5

Our hosts both came across as very inviting and accommodating; and, were upgraded to a cabin due to a fortunate cancellation on the part of another guest. While unable to have a chance to try Viky's cooking, we do hope to return and do so the next time around. My girlfriend and I were both very pleased with our stay and sincerely look forward to doing so once more.

Country feel with city amenities nearby

  • 4 of 5

The area is beautiful, the ranch is quaint, and Vicky and Miguel and really friendly. I didn't see the breakfast offered in the description, but I'm really happy I found out about it. We chose to have the omelets and it was amazing. A full five course breakfast with a coffee bar and mimosas! Plan to spend at least an hour eating and make sure you arrive hungry. Vicky is a Cordon Bleu graduate.

We originally booked a small cottage apartment, but it was not cleaned according to their own standards so Vicky upgraded us to a larger cabin for the same price. The cabins are really neat and provide nearly everything you could ask for. If it isn't in the cabin Vicky or Miguel will find it for you.

If you like the Texas hill country, friendly hosts, and a ranch atmosphere you will like this place.

Miguel and Vicky are exceptional hosts. They are kind and caring and aim to please. As soon as we arrived on the property, Miguel was there to help carry in our bags, and as soon as we got to the front door, Vicky was there with hugs and a warm welcome.

We stayed in the main house and it was very nicely decorated, clean and a perfect temperature to walk into from the very hot day. The room itself was a good size with a large, comfortable queen-size bed and closet, with plenty of storage throughout. There was also a large HD TV with a great sound system and Netflix at the push of a button.

The property is huge and a lot of fun to roam around on. We did a little exploring and even spent one morning hanging out with the horses and donkeys, petting them and laughing at their funny quirks. The wrap around deck is also a great place to hang out and simply look over the land. The city of Boerne is a short 5 minute drive when you're ready to see the town.

The breakfast here is excellent, but you have to come with a huge appetite, because the food keeps coming. We literally spent two hours each morning just eating breakfast, trying all of the wonderful choices Miguel and Vicky had to offer.

Overall, this place is a fantastic visit that is made even more special by the owner/hosts, Miguel and Vicky. We will absolutely be back!
