Italian villa type stone cottage on waterfront. It's truly a breathtakingly beautiful spot. From the front of the house, there's a great view of the Thimble Islands. There's nothing more relaxing than to sit on the rocking chairs on the front porch, view the islands and watch the sunsets. There are many special spots to enjoy, the hammock overlooking the waterfront, the back steps of the house that connect the upper and lower gardens and the the porch off the lower floor of the cottage. The cottage has 2 bedrooms upstairs, an eat-in kitchen, and a large living room with a fireplace and a baby grand piano. Downstairs there is a bedroom and sitting room / office suite.
One of the best getaways of my life. The house is extremely cosy and right on the sea. We stayed for 3 nights and it was not at all enough.
This was our third visit to the Stone Cottage. It continues to be one of our very favorite places in the world. Having recently retired, we have more time to relax, enjoy our family and friends, visit local sights, etc. Staying at the Stone Cottage allows us to do this. The views from each room are spectacular. Views from the front and sides are of the Thimble Islands. The rear windows face European style gardens, well tended by a gardener during our stay.
Although we had an exceptionally rainy Spring, we were never at a loss for things to do. The fireplace kept us cozy as we read, friends and family visited, walks into the charming town Stony Creek were always interesting, and the Long Wharf Theater is only a short drive away.
Anne is always available to answer any questions. We requested use of the barbeque and not only was it right there for us, but she placed brand new tools with it for our use. We felt welcomed into their special cottage but also had the privacy we needed. The additional living area in the lower level gave our grandchildren a sleeping space that they referred to as "sleeping on a ship" since the windows directly overlook the LI Sound.
Since there is a long walk up the private driveway, high heels are not recommended! That was OK with us. . . we totally enjoyed our privacy and wearing our comfortable shoes.
Perfect site for a stress-free vacation. The
Stone House and grounds are charming. The views in every direction and at all times of day are beautiful. Multiple activities available, and a hammock and rocking chairs for those more laid-back moments. The owner could not have been more cordial, and we can hardly wait to return next year to this wonderful retreat.
One week at the Stone Cottage just wasn't enough. There are gardens to explore, spectacular water views from each window, and sunsets that made us adjust our schedules to return each day to sit in the rockers & watch the sun go down. Watching the working boats sail past was special. The gulls, terns, osprey, and herons were constant visitors. The tides gave us a beach to explore twice a day. The village of Stony Creek was an easy walk for breakfast or lunch, boat tours, and galleries. The owners warmly welcomed us, introduced us to the cottage, and then gave us our privacy. Total relaxation in a property that was naturally gorgeous without being elaborate.

The house is on the end of a private road in Stony, Creek, CT. Stony is a very charming little town. It has the ambience of a small seaside village. The town has many attractions... the Thimble Islands, the Stony Creek Puppet House, the Stony Creek Museum, town docks with boat launch (narrated cruise giving the history of the islands depart hourly), playground and public library. Stony Creek is 15 minutes away from New Haven. House would be an ideal spot to stay for parents weekends/homecomings/graduations of Yale University.
