|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Private garden apartment in historic Uptown house. Large bedroom, large bathroom with custom shower, and large open living, dining, and kitchen area. All brand new, stainless appliances. Double sleeper sofa. Walk three doors down to St. Charles to catch the streetcar down to the French Quarter, take a walk or jog on the Mississippi River Trail or to Audubon Park, walk three blocks to endless shopping and eating on Maple St (and venture just a few blocks farther to even more options on Oak St). Minutes from Tulane and Loyola Universities. We live upstairs and are generally around and will be as available as our guests would like. We love to eat at local restaurants, listen to music, etc. and love to share what we love about our city with visitors. We have a book of restaurants and a list of things to do in New Orleans in the apartment. Vacation in classic New Orleans style! And don't forget your bathing suit!
We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the interior. It was perfect for my friend and I. Everything we would need for a 2 week stay was already there. This wonderful apartment is a very short walk to the street car and many restaurants. It will be my first choice for future visits.
My husband and I, and our 15 year old granddaughter arrived in New Orleans on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. The drive from the airport was very simple and easy, and only took about 20 minutes. Our host was not present when we arrived, but had communicated with us on how to access the property. Sascha arrived about an hour later and introductions were made. He was very gracious, even providing us with a can of insect repellent! We were pleasantly surprised to find that a brand new, in-ground swimming pool had been installed in the back yard, where banana and Satsuma trees were hanging heavy with fruit. While there was still a bit of construction mess left to clear up, the patio and garden were quite lovely, and a great place to cool off after a hot day of touristing.
The 1-bedroom apartment is on the ground level with a private entrance and well-lit paths leading to lockable gates. There was parking available on the street. Everything we could possibly need was in the apartment (coffeemaker, washer/dryer, bed and bath linens, wi-fi, TV, touristing info, etc). The queen-size bed was very comfortable, and the sofa bed was adequate for the granddaughter. The neighborhood is quite nice, and felt safe; nights were quiet - even on the 4th of July. There are at least a dozen interesting eateries within walking distance, but, if you are traveling with anyone under the age of 21, beware: they are banned from entering any place that has gaming machines. Our favorites were Vincent's Italian Restaurant, and O'Henry's. The property is just half a block from the Mississippi River, where there is a path on the levee that you can stroll along.
The trolley stop is just a block away, and you can buy an all-day pass for $3. The ride to the French Quarter takes about 45 minutes, but passes a lot of beautiful, old houses (mansions, castles!). There are stops along the way for Audubon Park (where you can take a free shuttle to the Zoo), the Garden District, and the Museum District; and it connects with the Canal Street trolley.
All in all, I would highly recommend this property. It is very comfortable, well-appointed, well-maintained, clean, well-situated for touristing without driving, and private. My husband commented that this was the nicest VRBO property at which we had ever stayed (this was our 5th or 6th VRBO booking). This trip was the realization of a long-held dream, and staying here made it absolutely perfect!
This apartment is on the small side.
When we were there a pool was being built in the back yard. Once that is done, the garden will be nice to sit in. The apartment is under the deck, so it is dark inside.
Nice kitchen, nice bathroom. Washer, dryer, wifi all worked well.
Nice restaurants in the neighborhood and Audubon Park and the Levee path are both near by for pleasant walks.
This sure is an extra fine place to stay but probably not for everyone. If you're looking to unleash your party animal in New Orleans you're better off close to the French Quarter. But if you're looking to soak up the ambience and slowed down pace and want to experience the neighborhood then this is just what you might be looking for. Great location, very, very close to the trolley and the Camellia Grill and Oak St and the Maple Leaf, and a quick hop to the RockNBowl. The apartment is very comfortable and Sascha is a great host and cool dude. If you're inclined to the quiet and laid back aspect of the Crescent City this is the place!
This apartment is conviently location a few steps from St. Charles Ave near the trolley. It is close to both Tulane and Loyola universities, stores, and excellent restaurants. The kitchen is equipped with everything a person would need for a short stay in the area. Wi-Fi and cable were included also. It is just a short drive from the airport. Always be prepared for rain. An umbrella, rain jacket, and shoes that can get wet in puddles, should always be included in your suitcase when headed to this area. No one can change what "Mother Nature" decides to do.
Enjoyed our stay very much. Very convenient to the street car and many restaurants. Sascha and his wife were wonderful to rent from. Hoping to use the new pool when we come back next year. Thank you.
