Great little hideaway. Fresh fruit and beautiful flowers surround the property. Very clean!! Very peaceful with the full moon glaring on the ocean as we set outside with a glass of wine. Everything you need is provided, including SUNSCREEN 😁 & laundry detergent. Highly recommend!!!
Perfect, peaceful hideaway
We loved our stay At Palaoa House - it was exactly what we had hoped for: quiet and remote, without being too far from town (only 10 minutes). The house was cozy and comfortable the lanai, as promised, offers a beautiful view and a morning chorus of birdsong. (But the windows are new and thick, so the birds don’t wake you up if the windows are closed!). The managers were responsive when one small thing broke - the cane and replaced it right away. So we really could not have asked for more (except, maybe, a microwave, but that’s a small complaint outweighed by the many charms).
Very nice place to stay.
We had a very relaxing stay at Palaoa House. It’s very open, airy and comfortable. The deck was wonderful to sit and look out over the ocean. The little town had an espresso stand and wonderful food at Hana Hou restaurant and great bakery. But do make sure you bring your other groceries with you. The driveway into the property is very steep but our rental car had no issues with getting in and out. The bedrooms are very bright, so bring sleep masks if that’s an issue for you. Did miss having a microwave but everything else we needed was there. It was a good quiet and relaxing location for us but some might find it a little remote. We really enjoyed our stay.
The ocean view from the lanai is wonderful.
Allison and I loved the house and especially the lanai. We watched sunrise from bed in the master bedroom our first morning and from the lanai the days following. I liked that I could walk from the garage to the front door without the rain reaching me. The weather during our stay varied hour to hour, sunny to cloudy to rain, calm to windy.
We loved the lanai for sunrise
Allison and I watched sunrise from bed the first morning and then watched sunrise from the lanai the second and third mornings. Everything works, everything is well thought out and well placed. We went to the nearby green sand beach and it was worth the trouble and expense to get there. The landlord's notebook recommended Wood Valley and we were glad we visited.
Beautiful place & lovely views!
My husband & I thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day stay at the house. We enjoyed our breakfast on the back porch while watching the beautiful sunrises each morning & we made friends with a few geckos. The house was very comfortable & cozy. It is in a very remote location which adds to the charm. It is located about 1 1/2 hours from both Kona & Hilo. Na'alehu is a very small town that has the most delicious bakery, Punalu'u Bake Shop. I highly recommend the restaurant, Hana Hou. The fish & chips were some of the best I've had! Some of the places we visited were, Punaluu Black Sand Beach (turtles on the beach), South Point (great walk along the coast), Volcanoes Nat'l Park (lots of good walking trails), Kilauea Lodge Restaurant (in the town of Volcano), Kaʻū Coffee Mill, & Big Island Candies in Hilo (the BEST shortbread cookies). If you are looking for a house to just relax this is the place. Julie was a pleasure to work with. We arrived after dark & they had the lights on for us which was very welcoming & made the place a little easier to find. It is on a very rough dirt road & down a steep driveway. Highly recommend that your rental car have additional ground clearance, ex. jeep or truck. If we were to visit this area of Hawaii again we would be sure to rent this house again.
