Authentic, quiet, restful & comfortable. A real pleasure to stay at this unique "cottage".

Wow! Nothing about this locale disappoints. From the fresh vegetables/herbs we were invited to pick & enjoy daily, to the calming sounds from the small stream beside the property, we felt like we had won the Blue Ridge Parkway accommodation jackpot.

This wasn't the fanciest place we've ever stayed, but it was definitely one of the most unique & charming! Soooooo quiet! It's too bad that the temperatures weren't a little warmer, as it would have been amazing to sit outside, read our books and enjoy the setting. We were, however, super cozy inside! The cottage was well appointed and had lots of room for us to spread out and choose our "spots". We also visited the Foggy Ridge Cidery for a tasting. It's part of the same property. What a fun & educational experience. A beautiful, modern & inviting tasting room. It was quite busy while we were there and it was nice to chat with the other visitors.

Diane was a thoughtful and responsive host. We didn't get a chance to meet in person but she prepared us thoroughly for arrival. Accessing the key and getting into the Cottage was a breeze & the reps at the Cidery were terrific Ambassadors.

Thank you for helping make our vacation memorable.

The garden house was adorable! We loved the simplicity and quietness of it all! Wonderful place!!

My husband, 4 month old and I visited this past weekend and had such a wonderful time. It was exactly the weekend getaway we were wanting. The house is charming and it has all you would ever need! We brought our own food and cooked everything there at the house. There are local restaurants but we wanted to stay put! We spent the first day hiking around the farm and enjoying their complimentary cider tasting. We also visited Mabry Mill which was super close and enjoyed a picnic lunch there. We didn't get to meet Diane but we did catch Chuck on his way to open up the hoop house. They did a great job having the house ready for us. Our trip was too short! Hoping to make it back in the spring to see the apples! I would highly recommend this house!

All the things you said about our cottage are among the many things I love about living in this special part of the world...lots of peace and quiet, nature all around, coziness on cool days, hiking and beauty around every corner and over every hill. Beautiful inside and out.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is beautifully appointed and has everything you need. We hiked and basically rested. We did see a mother black bear in the upper field near the house with her 3 cubs. We decided not to do that hike on that day. The owners are friendly and very helpful.

Relaxing and Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Diane very responsive and provided good info. We spent 4 nights at the Cottage and really enjoyed it! It felt peaceful the moment we walked in. Sat on front porch during thunderstorm, ate every breakfast on the side deck, enjoyed some veggies from their garden located behind the cottage. Kitchen had all we needed and there was just the two of us so we did not use the upstairs space. Very clean and nicely decorated. It is way out in the country in a beautiful setting where you can see all kinds of birds, butterflies, wildflowers, dark sky at night and quiet!! Just the sounds of nature. The cider house is just up the road from the Cottage and we took advantage of our free cider tasting and came home with some great apple port. Fishing spot just down the road from the cottage....

It does not take you long to connect with the Parkway from here or to even get back to the town of Floyd.

For those who cannot survive without technology.....there is no wifi and we had no phone service in the house (one of us has Sprint and the other has Verizon). We brought a hot spot but it did not work in the house either. The driveway is on a slight incline from the house and we had everything as soon as we walked to our car!! and reception bars got stronger as you drove up the road. We were away most afternoons and evenings at an event so this did not bother us but some people might not adapt well. It was just what my spirit needed! We hope to go back...

Owner's Response: Thanks for such a kind note about our creekside cottage! We are off the beaten path, with much wildlife, cool mountain temperatures and scenic hikes. But not much cell service! Verizon is the carrier of choice for rural areas like our's. I'm able to get 2 bars Verizon service inside the Garden House, but since the house is creekside, it is at a low point on the property. Service on the driveway or even at the Foggy Ridge Cider tasting room is fine. Guests can grab our WiFi hot spot at Foggy Ridge Cider during weekend open hours too.

Great Cottage Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Even though my stay was short, I enjoyed the Garden House very very much. The cottage was nice with plenty of room for myself. I am sure it would still be comfortable for 3 or 4 others. The area was nice and quiet, just like I wanted. I saw plenty of wildlife, several deer, some wild turkeys and one day on my drive to town, i even saw a black bear cub. Diane is the perfect hostess, when I arrived she already had fresh sugar snap peas from her own garden; and fresh eggs in the fridge.

Relaxing, comfortable stay in an agricultural setting

  • 4 of 5

We spent 2 nights at the cottage following a longer camping excursion in the area. This small home is set in the hills between forest and agricultural land, including the cidery's garden plots, vegetable frame house and nearby apple orchards. The cottage was comfortable, tastefully decorated, inviting and very clean. The kitchen was fully equipped with new appliances and had most everything we needed to cook our own meals. The bathroom was spotless and the shower water hot. The nights were virtually silent and I slept like a rock. Note that you will not have data coverage in this area, nor cell coverage if you have a provider other than Verizon (which was a plus for us). It is located a little way off the larger roads but worth the extra drive if you desire peace and quiet.

Location

Car: necessary

The Garden House is in a rural area of the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, just 8 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Nearby attractions include Mabry Mill, Primland Golf Resort, the New River Trail (a walking and biking trail), Buffalo Mountain and the back-in-time town of Floyd, home to the General Store Friday Night Jamboree. Local potters from the 16 Hands Studio and local music on the Crooked Road round out the offerings in this quiet corner of Virginia.

Bring a road bike for the Blue Ridge Parkway, or a fat tire bike for the nearby New River Trail and experience some of the south's best biking. Hiking is right out the front door on the 200 acre Foggy Ridge Cider farm—nearby Buffalo Mountain and the Rock Castle Gorge trail system offer hikes with long views across the Blue Ridge. The town of Floyd is a must for the Friday Night Jamboree, and local restaurants featuring music and fresh local dishes. Troika art gallery in Floyd features the area's best artists, plus many must-see pottery studios scattered around the county. The Blue Ridge Music Center, only a 30 minute drive, offers music every night during summer and fall. Primland Golf Resort is a 20 minute drive from the Garden House, with world class golf and upscale dining. Closer by you'll find Olde Mill Golf Resort with a stunning mountain course and excellent dining at Maples Restaurant.
