A Little Piece of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were looking for an affordable relaxing getaway close to home with amazing views. What we got was so much more.

The property is situated back in the foothills above a river and lake. Very well maintained with a cute gazebo fully set up with furniture for you to relax in. The main (owner's) house and small greenhouse are situated adjacent to the rental home but in a way to afford you total privacy. The rental is huge. It has a large patio with lounging furniture, grill and hot tub. The view of the lake is simply gorgeous! The patio is fully covered so you can enjoy if raining. We spent one afternoon in the hot tub while it rained which was so relaxing. You enter the rental on the ground floor which has a large entryway with a full bathroom which is perfect for taking a shower after using the hot tub or if you need to use the facilities while enjoying the covered porch. The landscape is filled with flowers and plants that beg for butterflies and hummingbirds to play in. We even saw a bit of wildlife with a young deer frolicking on the hillside with it's mama and sibling.

You proceed up the stairs and through a doorway to a huge open room which has a large kitchen fully stocked (a chef's dream) overlooking a dining area, living room with comfortable furniture around a TV and another eating area. I believe the TV is a 55" flatscreen with a DVD, stereo and surround sound equipment. They have Direct TV so you can veg out in front of the TV or enjoy a movie which we did on a few occasions. There is a full bathroom with tub/shower before the kitchen. Two bedrooms with extremely comfortable beds. A queen in one and a full and twin in the larger bedroom. Off the larger bedroom is a huge deck with lounging furniture and table if you want to enjoy a morning cup of coffee in the peaceful surroundings. A nearby chicken coop provides fresh eggs the owners stocked in the fridge. There is nothing you will lack in the kitchen and we were very impressed with how well stocked it was with everything you will need to cook meals. The home is decorated with beautiful antiques that give it a homey atmosphere.

The absolute best part of our visit were the owners Carla and Howard. They are so accommodating if you should need anything. We loved getting to know them. Really good people we felt like we had known forever. It was hard to leave and we cannot wait to come back and see them again. By far the best rental experience we have ever had.

Beautiful and spacious-- Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

with all the good reviews to be read, I knew we would enjoy our stay. But the reviews just don't do the property justice. The view is spectacular, the space is unusual and awesome. There is privacy, but with a feel that you are visiting family who are just next door. Extremely accommodating and friendly was Howard, and the place was decorated AMAZINGLY. No AT&T cell service in the area to be had, so have a contingency plan if you need to make phone calls while here! We are already daydreaming about coming back!

Fabulous long weekend at Blue Heron Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much Carla & Howard! We had a lovely, relaxing weekend celebrating our 15th anniversary. We were able to make delicious meals in the kitchen and using the gas grill and we enjoyed just relaxing and watching movies. The hot tub was our favorite! We've stayed at several VRBO cabins and houses and this was by far the nicest hot tub. We look forward to returning for soon!

Very nice, very relaxing get away!

  • 4 of 5

Carla and Howard's cabin is wonderful. The inside is spacious and comfortable, and the outside has beautiful views. We absolutely took advantage of the fresh eggs, milk, and OJ! As of my writing this, there is no picture of the hot tub, but I can assure you, there is one, and it's very relaxing to sit in day or night and take in the view. The main house that Carla and Howard live in is situated very close to the guest cabin, but they are as unobtrusive or interactive as you would like. If this sounds good to you, then do yourself a favor and stay here!

I'd really give the stay 4.5 stars if I could, but I took one star off because, while there were certainly fantastic moments of private, peace and quiet, the close proximity of the main house and its sometimes very "barky" dogs occasionally impinged on our goal of quiet solitude. We love dogs, and we do not blame them for barking at whatever they happened to see, hear, or smell through their fenced enclosure, but it could become excessive at times, and their relatively close proximity meant enduring it until they settled down or having to go inside for quiet.

Owner's Response: We are sorry that the dogs were outspoken. During the fall the squirrels tease them relentlessly running to and fro in front of their enclosure. It also does not help that our high hills have so much granite. We do appreciate your comments regarding this negative and work very hard to make sure each guest has the experience they seek. Had we known your issues were this uncomfortable we would have made different arrangements for the dogs. We did speak with the dogs, and they have assured us that they will be on their best behavior moving forward. Alas, they are shifty.
