Good house, from the pictures
Me and 8 of my friends decided to go on a holiday to somewhere we haven’t been before. Upon discovering the house, based on the pictures we were instantly sold. However, once we had arrived, there were some key issues that affected our overall review.
The main issue we faced was rubbish. Staying for 4 days/5 nights meant that there was obviously going to be a lot of rubbish. As we walked to the bins on the first night to put away all our rubbish (which was placed in garbage bags already), we found every bin still full, with one of the bins being full of empty beer cans. Common sense would be to empty the bins before the next guest arrives. We decided to call up and tell them to empty the bins, which they did the next day. However, at the end of our trip, there was so much rubbish that was neatly bagged and tied that it couldn’t fit in the bin anymore, so we decided to place it nearly next to the red bin. Once we arrived back home, we were informed that we had to be charged 67.75$ for someone to come and pick it up and that it’s ‘house rules’. True, the house rules do state that it has to be left clean and excess rubbish will be charged but where’s the logic when there’s only one small bin for such a massive house (that’s designed to cater for 14 people!). Personally, it was just a way of getting extra money out of our pockets. In no way am I qualified to be giving advice on how to run a business but if we base it off of common sense and logic, it would be a great idea to have the bins emptied by someone regularly OR have more bins. Just a recommendation, though if you do use this advice, please send back the 67.75$ you took :)
Now let’s rapid fire the small issues: the tennis balls provided looked like they’ve been through 25 Australian opens and didn’t even bounce properly. There’s no air conditioning downstairs and whilst considering upstairs only has the bedrooms, it is a big inconvenience to be sitting in the lounge room and sweating as if we’re in a sauna. over 5 nights, we found 3 cockroaches casually roaming around in the kitchen which is absolutely disgusting. The lights in the pool weren’t working properly so made it very hard to swim at night. The gas BBQ didn’t even work so we had to Use our own coal bbq.
With the list of problems out of the way, there are some good things though. The house itself is very nice and has a lot of features that other houses don’t (a tennis court and a really nice swimming pool). It’s also very spacious and comes equipped with all cooking utensils required. The house is also secluded off so there isn’t a big issue of trying to keep noise down at all times. The house is also located just 3-5 minutes drive from the heart of berry and around 20 minutes from Nowra. It’s also around 10 minutes away from 7 mile beach. These are all really good things about the house, but there’s a lot of issues aswell.
All In all, if You’re looking to stay and admire the beauty of the house and do nothing else then this house is perfect for that. We didn’t damage the house or anything like that and left it the way we entered it and even got our bond back. But it seemed like with anything good that came with the house, there was something bad ie a tennis court with tennis balls not even functioning, a swimming pool with no lights or a gas bbq that doesn’t even function properly. There are a lot of improvements that need to happen before I would recommend someone to stay at the house.
Great for our 2 families ( we have older kids). Lots of rooms, so everyone had their own space. Large table and lounge so we could all fit together for meals and to play board games. Loved the fire, pool table and tennis court. Lovely gardens. Just wish that we had more time to spend there.
Great winter retreat
This massive 70's style house is perfect for a long weekend away. It's massive and practical for a group, and is located on a nice patch of property overlooking the Berry ranges.
The pool was something we were excited about but unfortunately wasn't heated at the time of stay. It is a big pool though, and would be great in summer.
Great to hear you enjoyed your stay David! The pool is heated during the months of October through to April, we have trialled heating it in the cooler months, but as it is quite a large pool, it will not hold the heat - you'll have to visit us in the warmer months next time :)
excellent huge property
Loved our stay, bit worn, perfect for our large family, no need to be too careful
