About Irma Hinchcliff

For the past 40 plus years we have been living on the Big Island where we raised our children and now enjoy our time with our grand children. Originally from Kauai, I relocated to the Big Island to start a new life and where I met my husband.

Together we have owned many homes on the Big Island. We found Kaloko to be a type of sanctuary in that while we are close to all the amenities that the Kona Coast offers, we could return to our home where we enjoyed the cool temperatures and breezes that the area offers.

Irma Hinchcliff purchased this house in 2008

Why Irma Hinchcliff chose Kona Coast

This one bedroom, one bath custom home is situated on a property of some 3 acres with spectacular ocean views and beautiful sunsets. Centrally located one can enjoy all the amenities and activities that the Kona Coast offers as well as easy access to and from the Kohala Coast as well as Kamuela (Waimea) Town where you can take advantage of the beautiful beaches as well as shopping and restaurants. Kona has some of the most beautiful beaches in the islands. At 1900 feet, the temperature is approximately 3-4 or 5 degrees cooler than at the ocean level, for each 1000 feet.

What makes this house unique

While you enjoy the quiet beauty of the Kaloko area with the many lush plants and flowers that are unique to this area, you are but minutes to Kailua Kona town with many restaurants and shopping. You also can take a drive to Old Waimea Town, known as Kamuela, which means Samuel in Hawaiian and named after Samuel Parker who was a major landowner and businessman on the island of Hawaii, heir to the Parker Ranch estate. He became involved in politics at a critical time of the Kingdom of Hawaii, serving in its last cabinet. The Big Island is home to some of the best beaches and pristine waters. One reason that the beaches here on the Kona side are generally considered better is because it is sunnier on the West side of the Island. In fact, the Kona coast is considered the sunniest spot in the United States. As you walk along the coastal trails, keep your eye out for many of the plants that are native to Hawaii. Watch for the fragrant pua maia with its flowers of white which was used for medicine and to help set broken bones. Growing along the lava, you may spot the lavender pohuehue, a native beach morning glory. Walk under the shade of the gracious hala tree, whose leaves are used to weave mats and baskets. Native plants may be either indigenous, meaning that they are found in our island chain as well as other places in the world, or endemic meaning that they are found only in the Hawaiian Islands

The night sky on a clear night bring in the beautiful starry nights along with the cool breezes that are a welcome during the warmer summer months here in Kona.

Kona Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

This property was excellent! It far exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed the beautiful ocean view from the private lanai. The home was immaculately clean and very comfortable. The property was very well equipped including extras like beach towels, chairs, etc. This is a great convenient location perfect to explore and enjoy the Kona coast. I have rented many other HomeAway and VRBOs including others in Hawaii and this is by far the best property I have stayed in. We would definitely stay again on our next trip to the Big Island. Mahalo Irma!

Best Place to Stay in Kona

  • 5 of 5

Our recent stay at this property was the best VRBO experience we've had. The property is top notch with all of the needed extras from towels and linens to complete kitchen items to the the welcome basket of local fruit and coffee. Irma is a gracious and attentive hostess, answering our every need. The location is ten minutes from Ali'i Drive in Kailua-Kona and even closer to KOA. This property was our home away from home for two weeks and we enjoyed every minute of it. After a long day of sightseeing or just relaxing at the beach, coming back to this unit felt like coming home. It is a great location near the highway which makes day trips easy. It is close to shopping, dining, beaches, etc. Being located at about 2000 foot altitude means the temperature is comfortable and a breeze is always present. Irma is a fantastic hostess going out of her way to make sure your stay is the best it can be. Make sure to ask her about the local sites to visit, she's a wealth of knowledge. She even offered to take us to the airport when our rental car broke down. That's dedication. We have no doubts where we will be staying should we return to the Big Island.

Don't wait - book it and enjoy your stay!

PERFECT HOME & LOCATION

  • 5 of 5

As said in other reviews, Irma is a perfect hostess with high standards. Her home was very clean & well stocked with all the extras to make a mini vacation fun. Inside/outside beautiful & peaceful. Also had supply of towels, cooler & boogie board for trip to the beach. The fresh fruit tray & extra water were appreciated. Thanks for giving us a few touring suggestions for our too short, 3 day stay. Great central location for our trip. Thanks - Stephanie & Bob

A little piece of paradise

  • 5 of 5

After a week in Kailua Kona we enjoyed the peaceful home-away-from-home feel of Irma's immaculate apartment on the hill. She is a pro! The generous gifts of fruit and ample supply of everyday items made our stay so special. It is just a few minutes from the beach, shopping, coffee farms, etc. and a head start on tours to the volcano, Hilo, Waimea and Hawi. Thank you Irma! You're the best!

Great Trip and wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We have been to Kona at least a dozen times and this is one of the best places we have ever stayed. It is very large and clean-----quiet dead end street with great views of the water and sunsets. It was well priced. You cant go wrong by staying here!
