About Irma Hinchcliff

For the past 40 plus years we have been living on the Big Island where we raised our children and now enjoy our time with our grand children. Originally from Kauai, I relocated to the Big Island to start a new life and where I met my husband.

Together we have owned many homes on the Big Island. We found Kaloko to be a type of sanctuary in that while we are close to all the amenities that the Kona Coast offers, we could return to our home where we enjoyed the cool temperatures and breezes that the area offers.

Irma Hinchcliff purchased this house in 2008

Why Irma Hinchcliff chose Kailua-Kona

This one bedroom, one bath custom home is situated on a property of some 3 acres with spectacular ocean views and beautiful sunsets. Centrally located one can enjoy all the amenities and activities that the Kona Coast offers as well as easy access to and from the Kohala Coast as well as Kamuela (Waimea) Town where you can take advantage of the beautiful beaches as well as shopping and restaurants. Kona has some of the most beautiful beaches in the islands. At 1900 feet, the temperature is approximately 3-4 or 5 degrees cooler than at the ocean level, for each 1000 feet.

What makes this house unique

While you enjoy the quiet beauty of the Kaloko area with the many lush plants and flowers that are unique to this area, you are but minutes to Kailua Kona town with many restaurants and shopping. You also can take a drive to Old Waimea Town, known as Kamuela, which means Samuel in Hawaiian and named after Samuel Parker who was a major landowner and businessman on the island of Hawaii, heir to the Parker Ranch estate. He became involved in politics at a critical time of the Kingdom of Hawaii, serving in its last cabinet. The Big Island is home to some of the best beaches and pristine waters. One reason that the beaches here on the Kona side are generally considered better is because it is sunnier on the West side of the Island. In fact, the Kona coast is considered the sunniest spot in the United States. As you walk along the coastal trails, keep your eye out for many of the plants that are native to Hawaii. Watch for the fragrant pua maia with its flowers of white which was used for medicine and to help set broken bones. Growing along the lava, you may spot the lavender pohuehue, a native beach morning glory. Walk under the shade of the gracious hala tree, whose leaves are used to weave mats and baskets. Native plants may be either indigenous, meaning that they are found in our island chain as well as other places in the world, or endemic meaning that they are found only in the Hawaiian Islands

The night sky on a clear night bring in the beautiful starry nights along with the cool breezes that are a welcome during the warmer summer months here in Kona.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Irma is fabulous. We enjoy our stay very much. She make us feel like home and the place is immaculate. Nice ocean view and beautifully furnished. Everything needed is there. She left us very special welcome basket that we truly enjoyed. We enjoyed every moment there. The place is located in private residential gated community. We feel like home. When we return to Kona we would only stay at Irma's place and would never look elsewhere. Thank you very much Irma.

Quiet, Spacious and Clean

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 10 nights leading up to the Ironman World Championships in October. The accommodation is ideally located close to Kona, but yet removed from the madness that is Ironman week and provides easy access to the main highways to explore the island. Temperatures are a little cooler up at 1500ft which is welcome and combined with the silence at night made for a good nights sleep (apart from the jetlag). Irma met us when we arrived and was very friendly and welcoming and even provided a welcome basket which was appreciated. The house was absolutely spotlessly clean and contained all the facilities needed for our stay.

We would be more than happy to stay here again if we are lucky enough to return to this beautiful island.

Our stay here was very enjoyable. The property is surrounded with beautiful plants and the inside is just as lovely. Irma provided us with some wonderful fresh fruits and some suggestions on where to go. Would recommend this to friends.

Perfect setting on a perfect island! Beautiful and peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for nine nights and loved it. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed to enjoy our Hawaiian vacation; a large comfortable bed, a wonderful walk-in shower, a well-appointed kitchen, a lovely outdoor eating area, and all items needed for a day at the beach. The best part for us was that it was close to town, yet out of the crowded and touristy areas. It is a very quiet and peaceful setting. Plus, being a bit higher on the mountain meant cooler temperatures and a lovely breeze. Furthermore, Irma is very a thoughtful host. When we arrived she provided us with fresh fruit, macadamia chocolates, and delicious homemade banana bread. She is also very knowledgable about the island and provided us with much useful advice. You can't go wrong staying here!

Kona Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

This property was excellent! It far exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed the beautiful ocean view from the private lanai. The home was immaculately clean and very comfortable. The property was very well equipped including extras like beach towels, chairs, etc. This is a great convenient location perfect to explore and enjoy the Kona coast. I have rented many other HomeAway and VRBOs including others in Hawaii and this is by far the best property I have stayed in. We would definitely stay again on our next trip to the Big Island. Mahalo Irma!
