But thanks to its location and aspect – tucked away on a back street, with a balcony over an internal garden – it's unbelievably quiet and private. Go out and explore: the city, Chinatown and the rest of Surry Hills are all within walking distance. Alternatively, pour a glass of wine, open the glass doors, let the warm breeze in and relax!

The Neighborhood:
If Surry Hills isn't Sydney's coolest neighbourhood, it's definitely in the hunt. Boutiques, galleries and restaurants line Crown St, and coffee is always close at hand. Grand old Victorian terraces abut converted warehouses, with the odd bit of award-winning contemporary architecture mixed in. It's also one of Sydney's most cycle-friendly suburbs, with bike paths that cry out to be explored.

Getting Around:
Walk around Surry Hills, Redfern and the city. Transport to anywhere in Sydney can be found at Central Station, less than five minutes' walk.

- Building works at the property until end of November, except slight disturbance due to facade improvements
- The dishwasher is under maintenance, and not available during your stay.

Too many drawbacks - Minuses far outweigh pluses
We had a good deal of difficulty checking in because property management company was not responsive in answering concerns. After checking in we found that 1) glasses and dishes in the cupboard needed cleaning, 2) the kitchen sink was filthy and did not drain well (we left it as we found it); 3) there was but a small single bar of soap for two bathroom sinks and kitchen sink; 4) there were no condiments (sugar, pepper, coffee, creamer, tea, etc.), 5) one of the two bath towels was threadbare, with holes in it; 6) there were no washcloths and only one hand towel for the two bathrooms; 7) there were no cleaning supplies; 8) the kitchen sink cabinet door hinge was sprung; 9). the shelf in the lower kitchen cabinet was broken; 10). there were 3 fans, but only 2 were operable (insufficient for colling the apartment); 11) there was no guest manual to explain operation of appliances, TV, internet, control pads, etc.; 12) no instructions on elevator or entrance operations; 13) no napkins or paper towels; 14) No clear explanation of which lockbox held apartment keys (we had to test 5 lockboxes before finding the keys); 15) floors in bathrooms appeared not to have been cleaned; 16) deck was poorly maintained and had several decking boards that had rotted through; 17) no response from property management company in response to complaints. We've stayed in worse places, but those were in 3rd world countries. The only redeeming features of the apartment? Location & roominess.

Great location but …
Location is five star. Easy access to public transport, especially the light rail that was amazing. We rented a car for the duration of our stay so the parking space included with the property was very useful. Having said that, the public transport is so good that we probably wouldn’t bother with a car next time. Go Get cars park right outside the property. There are coffee shops galore within easy walking distance. Check-in was challenging. We had to hunt in the dark for a lock box which was supposed to have 2 yellow stickers - it didn’t. The lock box was among several others and it was very hard to find Upon entering the property, we were wondering if we had made a big mistake. It was quite dirty - dead cockroaches in the kitchen drawers, filthy windows and mouldy shower. Only one key was provided and the property was poorly equipped. We were staying for 4 weeks so we set about solving all the problems for ourselves - we had another key cut, cleaned the windows and shower and purchased new glasses, cutlery, laundry basket, coat hangers etc Having solved most of the problems for ourselves, we made the property work for us. We won’t stay there again as we think there are better options in the area. There is no air con so summer stays would be quite unpleasant
