About Brent Foss

My wife and I bought our cabin for a peaceful retreat from our busy lives. We really love the setting and the space. This is our personal cabin - not a timeshare or commercial venture. It's well-appointed with our books, movies, music, art, and personal touches. We think it's a special place in a very special region of Wisconsin. We can't wait to share it with you.

Why Brent Foss chose Southern Wisconsin

The Driftless Area of southwestern Wisconsin is simply amazing! The rolling hills and secret valleys hide small streams, abundant wildlife, and local folklore. Come visit and learn why we think this area is one of the most beautiful in the Midwest.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a perfect place to spend a girls bachelorette weekend. We came in from Chicago, Ames, Paulina and Decorah Iowa. Despite plans to go out, we couldn’t resist staying in and making good food, drinking Moscow Mules on the porch, lounging in the hot tub, laughing and telling stories. What a relaxing getaway! Our random Saturday adventure led us to a market along the road and a recommendation to hike the Mississippi River Conservancy where we had a lovely picnic overlooking the River Gorge. Wine tasting at Sugar Creek winery and a swim in a “no swimming” zone before coming back for the evening. Thanks for sharing your beautiful place with us.

Beautiful place for a secluded getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to get away from the big city for a relaxing weekend and this was the perfect place! The property was beautiful and we enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub, building fires in the wood stove, and hiking with our dog. I highly recommend this cabin for anyone who is looking for a peaceful retreat!

Incredible Cabin

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough how fantastic this spot was. Beautiful, cozy cabin tucked away in the bluffs-couldn't ask for a better place to stay for a weekend away with some good company. The amenities were exactly what we needed and the couple who runs the place are super helpful, warm and welcoming. A MUST book.

Disappointment

  • 2 of 5

I will keep this review objective and share the experience we had. The structure of the building is nice, with an interesting upstairs area with a lot of light. We enjoyed the porch and the hottub in the evening.

The problems we had are as follows:

- The bathroom wasn't what I define as clean. We had a faucet dripping in the sink the entire time we were there. The owners apologized to us about it in a note and told us to keep a rag or paper towel underneath in so we wouldn't hear the noise.

- We brought our own linens and towels which was fine. We should have also been informed that we needed to bring dishrags and towels for dishes and for wiping down tables and counters. We had a very used sponge and one stained towel to use. Good thing I brought some paper towels.

- The kitchen wasn't equipped for cooking. There were no pots or pans with lids even big enough to boil a small box of rice or pasta.

- The grill was quite dirty. It was the kind that you find is a public park.

- The neighbors have a liking for Pink Floyd's The Wall. I don't dislike but not later at night.

These were the facts from our experience simply said. This COULD be a nice place with some attention to the things I listed above.

Owner's Response: I too am disappointed to read a review like this. Most of our guests have been very happy with the cabin (see other reviews) but clearly we dropped the ball here. If some parts of the cabin weren't clean enough, we should have done a better job and we will. The bathroom is going to be completely gutted and remodeled. We will make sure we have enough pots and pans - maybe some of them walked off - it will be taken care of this week. We intentionally use a park-style grill so people don't haul it up onto the deck and burn our house down - it happens. I can't really defend the neighbor's affinity for Pink Floyd, but it was the 4th of July weekend. As I said, this feedback, although hard to read, is valuable and will be taken to heart.

Cabin in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in the woods! The grand kids loved the creek! I love that the deck goes to the hot tub. That is so very nice. It does not show that in the pictures but the new deck is amazing. Loved our stay. Thank you very much.
